The way Hannibal sees Will, and how Will sees Hannibal.

Their perception of one another for sure, but there's this fact that they reflect each other. Two standing mirrors, face to face: Will sees his own beast within when looking at Hannibal, and Hannibal sees the light he still owns in his soul. The ability to love so intensely, and the state of being comfortably violent. Two aspects of them people mostly assume nonexistent.

Hunger is obviously a major theme in Hannibal—it’s literally the cannibal show—but the difference in how that’s portrayed with Hannigram is intriguing.

Hannibal was starving for connection before he had Will, and then everything changed for him. As Bedelia tells Will, “Did he daily feel a stab of hunger, and find nourishment at the very sight of you? Yes.” Hannibal’s hunger is sated by so much as the sight of Will. A mere look at him is enough to satisfy him.

But Will is different. Rather than being sated by his connection with Hannibal, it is the very thing that makes him hungry. There’s a frame in the Italy chapter that makes it look like he’s trapped in a starvation cage. In the script for his sailing scene, he’s literally described to look hungry:

Both Hannibal and Will have a possessive, obsessive, all-consuming love for one another, but it affects them quite differently. Hannibal is nourished by the very sight of Will, but for Will, no amount of the profound attention he experiences from Hannibal can fully sate his hunger—it’s a high he can’t help but chase. It fuels his pathological need to return to Hannibal again and again, no matter how self-destructive it is. I think this is why Will is more outwardly possessive of Hannibal than Hannibal is of Will. Hannibal wants Will to be his; Will wants Hannibal to be no one else’s. Both forms of possession, but Will’s is more jealous because of the way he experiences Hannibal’s attention. It’s a high, it’s a hunger—it’s a need, not a want.

I saw a post talking about how Terry Pratchett only wrote 400 words a day, how that goal helped him write literally dozens of books before he died. So I reduced my own daily word goal. I went down from 1,000 to 200. With that 800-word wall taken down, I’ve been writing more. “I won’t get on tumblr/watch TV/draw/read until I hit my word goal” used to be something I said as self-restraint. And when I inevitably couldn’t cough up four pages in one sitting, I felt like garbage, and the pleasurable hobbies I had planned on felt like I was cheating myself when I just gave up. Now it’s something I say because I just have to finish this scene, just have to round out this conversation, can’t stop now, because I’m enjoying myself, I’m having an amazing time writing. Something that hasn’t been true of my original works since middle school. 

And sometimes I think, “Well, two hundred is technically less than four hundred.” And I have to stop myself, because - I am writing half as much as Terry Pratchett. Terry fucking Pratchett, who not only published regularly up until his death, but published books that were consistently good. 

And this has also been an immense help as a writer with ADHD, because I don’t feel bad when I take a break from writing - two hundred words works up quick, after all. If I take a break at 150, I have a whole day to write 50 more words, and I’ve rarely written less than 200 words and not felt the need to keep writing because I need to tie up a loose end anyways. 

Yes, sometimes, I do not produce a single thing worth keeping in those two hundred words. But it’s much easier to edit two hundred words of bad writing than it is to edit no writing at all.

Everyone's talking about how funny it was to see Hannibal pining so much after Will didn't show up for his therapy, but may I also draw your attention to the fact that literally the second Hannibal saw Will wasn't there, Requiem started playing? This is the most melodramatic thing I've ever seen. Will didn't show one (1) time and Hannibal was already channelling a widow in mourning. This show is pure comedy gold.

Do you know how Will asked Hannibal to feed his dogs while he is away?

When Hannibal has to leave for a few days, he asks Will to feed his sourdough starter. Will accepts, not entirely sure what he is saying "yes" to so when Hannibal is standing on his porch holding a big jar filled with something... interesting...Will tries his hardest to take him seriously.

Hannibal gives him a note with the exact quantities.

"So like, is this alive?" Will asks as he is holding the jar, admiring the air bubbles which are visible through the glass.

"Yes. Been alive for almost 10 years now."

Will promises to take care of it.

When Hannibal comes back a few days later, he is taken aback by what he sees. The starter is doing great, bigger than last week. But that is not the reason why he is smiling dumbly.

The jar has now a label on it saying "Steve" and a little cowboy hat on top. That was the moment when Hannibal knew for certain that he was irremediably in love with Will.
