My girlfriend is a scientist (not even like a microbiologist or w/e) and she wants me to stop drinking raw milk
my girlfriend is an engineer (not even a mechanic or w/e) and she wants me to stop driving through intersections with my eyes closed screaming "WEEEEE I'M GONNA LIVE FOREVER"

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PARASITE?
hmm. that’s really hard & I could probably provide more interesting answers for each type of parasitism
aside from silly parasitoid life cycles like trigonalid wasps, I really like greater honeyguides as brood parasites.

they are a funky passerine-looking woodpecker relative, and adults have developed a mutualism with humans in which the bird leads humans to beehives, and when the humans take the honey and leave the nest broken the honeyguide eats the larvae, pupae, and bizarrely the wax. they’d be a great bird for the wax-digesting alone, but…

they start out as really hardcore brood parasites. they’re plump little goblins with hooked bills that go around stabbing and biting to death any of its adoptive siblings (all while completely blind), leaving the host family with just the honeyguide to raise. their Biting The World behavior is so strong they’ll clamp onto human hands, as shown.

Honestly, probably the best social tip I could ever give you guys is literally just ask. Need to make a doctor's appointment but don't know how? Call the doctor's office and ask. Don't know the meaning of what someone said? Ask them. Don't understand the instructions you were given? Ask them to repeat or clarify. This has literally never failed me, no one's gotten angry, no one's refused to answer.
Even in situations where you think it might not work, I once accidentally missed a deadline to accept a job offer, so I called and asked if they could reset it and they did. Just today I called a doctor and asked how to schedule an appointment, the lady told me how, and then I did it. Didn't know if someone was being sarcastic or not, so I asked and they told me. Just ask.

Usually south park's relevancy feels very fake and surface level to me, but it's really something how trump and his base are actually, visibly much more enraged by this than they've been about any other criticism, any other show, any other enemy I've seen in the entire near-decade of his political career. Fucking South Park got to them more than the combined effort of a million other comedians, journalists, parodies, academic criticisms or protest efforts. Like it's BAD. Like they want the creators in prison and want to consider this a hate crime.

REMEMBER:
if you don't understand the post at a glance it's because op wrote it wrong and needs your help
if the post doesn't contain all the contextualising information you need to understand it, op is gaslighting you
if you haven't experienced the phenomenon the post describes, op is making it up for clout
if you haven't encountered the type of person the post describes, they're a strawman that doesn't exist
if the post doesn't address a topic you'd prefer to talk about, it's a distraction, missing the point, and talking over you
if the post makes a good point, it is your duty to contribute to human enlightenment by nitpicking it to be more correct
and most importantly:
every online conversation is a competition and you must win

Do y’all think siblings in medieval times would look at the little beasts in illuminated manuscripts and point at each other like ‘ha! ‘Tis thou!’

One of my favourite bits of media history trivia is that back in the Elizabethan period, people used to publish unauthorised copies of plays by sending someone who was good with shorthand to discretely write down all of the play's dialogue while they watched it, then reconstructing the play by combining those notes with audience interviews to recover the stage directions; in some cases, these unauthorised copies are the only record of a given play that survives to the present day. It's one of my favourites for two reasons:
It demonstrates that piracy has always lay at the heart of media preservation; and
Imagine being the 1603 equivalent of the guy with the cell phone camera in the movie theatre, furtively scribbling down notes in a little book and hoping Shakespeare himself doesn't catch you.

It would be funny if nuclear waste warning messages become an attraction for future historical linguists.
I mean look at this thing:
A parallel text in 7 languages, with 4 different scripts between them! And pictograms! All designed to be preserved intact!

Everytime one of these "protect women and girls" orgs go viral for doing something evil I like to take a look through their "wins" and see if they've ever helped protect even one single living woman or girl.
Collective Shout has:
Gotten a hotel to cancel a legal-aged porn star's reservation
Gotten a venue to cancel a Playboy Bunny themed party - again, attended by only adults
Pressured the Breast Cancer Foundation to pull ads that they found too sexy
got ads for a sex doll company removed because they felt the dolls resembled children
Got a beer coozy that had pinups of adult women printed on them discontinued.
Got an H&M ad pulled for back to school clothes for saying "Turn Heads"
Got Tyler the Creator banned from performing in New Zealand
I'm still scrolling and I have yet to see a single instance of a real, living woman or girl being protected by any one of their actions. They have on multiple occasions punished real, adult women for the audacity to be naked in some capacity they find distasteful.

One thing that's been bugging me is how in the wake of Ozzy Osbourne's death some ppl are like "oh my god! Did you know Ozzy did x problematic thing while on drugs? I can't believe he did that, he should've been cancelled!" like goddamn Jessica what exactly did you think "taking so many drugs everyone's surprised you lived past thirty" looks like. Did you think Ozzy quit because he stepped on a flower while high. Come on
