It was almost impressive... He had no idea how this child could have possibly found a shell around here, but she managed it somehow. Although, he wasn’t sure why she had a fixation on shells or what he would be doing with it... “How did you get this-”

      They shook their head and leaned closer to Smoothie.       “ I believe I would be okay to just…sit close to you, that is all I need at the moment…maybe some juice.. ”

Smoothie vaguely knew that Loki had experienced a previous user of her mother’s devil fruit, but she knew not the details. It truly was a formidable power, she couldn’t imagine someone who was stronger and more threatening than Big Mom herself. Ah well, it was in the past.

“I know you have a distaste for food, but my siblings will help if a wedding is too stressful for you...” The Sweet Commander was already bringing up a pleasantly colored clear glass of juice. She’d rather the snake drinking up juice than... the sea water alternative they often gravitated towards. No matter, as long as it didn’t hurt them she supposed...

      They definitely weren’t blind to the biases against their devil fruit–not only a beastly one, but a scaled creature, a mythical dragon, more or less. The Orochi was quite close to what they thought of to be the rival of this crew. They’ve heard a bit about the Beast Pirates since they arrived at Totto Land…That being said, they tried to stay more isolated from it.

      “ Even if that were to happen, I see no benefit to having me be married, there is little to gain. I do enjoy your company, though…That can be accomplished without marriage. ”

“I would not mind a marriage with you either way.” Everyone was expected to marry the moment Mama wanted it for them anyway. She would have been lucky to get someone she liked at least. “If there is anything to gain for her, she will go through with it. No matter if others disagree with it. For your own safety, you should comply with her demands...”

Smoothie wasn’t going to so readily let go of the snake anyway. Marriage or not, she was too attached now.

      Loki hummed. Not that they cared to be officially in any family. In the end they were Alabastan and that’s all that mattered…Smoothie was a very close friend. Was there more to it? Hm…Maybe.

“Have you considered that the situation may change...” She wasn’t stupid nor oblivious, far from it. Smoothie was well aware of how this family operated and how information was exchanged among the members. Loki would be seen as ‘valuable’, although looked down upon by her mother on account of that monstrous devil fruit. A wedding would not be any surprise to her...

      Loki tilted their head somewhat, looking up towards the caring and attached Charlotte. As much as they enjoyed her company, it was somewhat uncomfortable…At least sometimes. As time passed, they certainly got more comfortable…Being handled so flippantly all the time-

“Regardless if you’re capable or not, I’ll do as I please in service of protecting my family.” Seems she was similar to her mother in a sense, a bit possessive of the snake. Smoothie enjoyed grabbing Loki and picking him up, often refusing to let go so easily... Well, at least her touch was gentle when it came to handling this snake. Wait- Loki wasn’t even an ‘official’ member of the family. Not yet, at least...

The interesting thing about the place is the island will try to eat you, but I’m sure you’ve heard more crazy stories about islands than I know. It’s similar to Sabaody in the way that it’s structured and how it’ll trap people...”

Jovi often enjoyed indulging in stories, whether they came from himself, fellow crewmates, or the captain, while mixing something new. Sure, he hasn’t travelled on the same scale as Shanks has, but he’s been around a sizeable number of various islands across the world prior to coming aboard the Red Force. Yet, the New World had remained a mystery to him up until he joined. He had always wondered... what kind of island would cradle the ultimate banana? Haha, he had such silly dreams in comparison to the other pirates...

“Sometimes I make a few drinks with fruit I grew from seeds I took from the place, but I use them sparingly. It’s actually very addictive in taste and sugar content. Makes for a most heavenly margarita, but it’s biologically engineered to keep you hooked! Combining that with the draw of alcohol is a deadly combo, not many can actually handle it without succumbing to the gluttony of the islands it originates from. Think you can take it, Red?”

“Of course. I am well aware.” That’s all she had to say. She was going to remain protective anyway, as she always was with the rest of her family. Even to the ‘invincible’ Cracker or the ‘perfect’ Katakuri. There was no one in her family she wasn’t protective of. What that meant for Loki? Well...

      To remain content, to accept that they were only an observer now…Loki remained still, utterly silent as the woman got closer. How disgustingly close she had gotten to them, and they so hated a tone carried full of gilded sweetness. They simply squinted their eye a bit. Should they correct her? No, yet it was one of the first observations the other had made. Empty, how very empty they were, and they had been–they guessed–since they had consumed that fruit. The very fruit that writhed beneath their dead grey eye like some beast craving to get out. Craving some sort of drama, of attack.

      They held it in. 

      Possessiveness still drifted in their mind. Her journals, how foolish was a book collector who had no respect for the one who originally owned them. Perhaps with novels which had multiple prints, yet with a journal of personal…They cut their thought of and simply turned slightly towards the librarian, an easier thing to focus on, surely.

      “ I would be willing to share what is within…those journals. History should be told, not thrown to the fire, I agree. ”

      What happened to Ohara still disgusted them since they had heard. How to ask for betrayal than to burn the one stable and peaceful middle ground the world had left. Alabasta was the closest alternative, yet the Alabastan prince was biased of where their blood originated.

      “ From scholar to librarian, I am willing to indulge you. I enjoy discussions on the past, it is something I am used to. ”

“Wonderful! Spend some time with my son. He’ll write down all the little details you tell him. I’ll let you have your precious little journals back if you give us enough information. Isn’t that a fair trade?~” Very very generous. She doesn’t usually part with anything from there. Nope, never. But those puny things would likely be put to shame by what this serpent had to say about the history itself... And if he was not so quick to share, there was always her dear little Pudding right here, ready to read into those juicy memories...

...As if she wouldn’t get Pudding to do that anyway! Hah! Pudding already knew what she wanted of her. That’s why Pudding would approach this reptile, right? Never possibly because she’d actually want to hang out with this filthy beast. It was almost embarrassing this is the one Smoothie had become attached to... Still, it had its uses! So useful! Fantastic~. “I’ll leave you to it~. Show me what you accomplish by the end of the day.”

Linlin smiled so widely, so intensely. She was beaming at this opportunity. Joyous. How lucky that this snake was hers, and not some other specific beast’s...

“Sounds like my kind of afternoon. I’ll be sure to provide the best new additions to the collection...” Monty was also feeling the excitement, but perhaps less insidious than her. He genuinely enjoyed learning, not for any world-dominating reason, but rather to simply know. Of course, his knowing would serve to assist Mama in all her endeavors...

      They would surely explain to Pudding about Janus later, the Great Kingdom royal was a sparse topic. Perhaps one of the journals this library contained had the book with his entry–they had a few dedicated to him and his devil fruit. Then again… 

     The small frame of a boy was nothing in comparison to what entered the Library. It bore some resemblance in some stature to a man they so despised. That comparison was quickly pushed away, the mask of their calm pulled on tightly. Raised to deal with those like the woman before them, raised to be like her, in a way, Loki simply bowed their greeting. Politeness following a soft smile–or something close to it–as they looked up towards her. Their remaining eye dry and deathly, the colour of their iris long gone despite the youthfulness of their skin and body.

      “ It is a pleasure to finally meet you. ”

      Their voice a projected hum. Their voice as collected as a serpent’s slither across the desert, consistent and waved to be pristine. A perfect indent of the sands as it parted. Acting no matter how subtle, would be something they never failed to participate it. Especially in some stressful situations. Only one occasion had they broken, they had no plans for that to happen again.

      “ My only desire is to see my journals that have fallen into your collection. I wish to clear the fog of my mind by reminding myself of the information contained within their pages and tablets. However that is done, there is no need for me to enter those chambers, only to see my journals. ”

“A pleasure.” She leaned in far too close for comfort, a predator eyeing a plaything. How so intriguingly peculiar. “Ha ha! It’s true, you’ve died before. There is no lifespan here...”

Interesting. And almost irritating. Yet, she could smell the fear of this creature. How fun~ She had no need to manipulate lifespan with how easy it would be to coil this snake around her finger... After all, Smoothie was all too ready to sing its praises...

“They are my journals.” The library was hers after all, as much fun as Mont D’or has had playing in here over the years. Every page, ever bound inmate was hers to do as she wished. As many who are familiar with the Queen would know - she does not share her things freely. “I could let you see them... I’m generous with friends of my family~.”

Such a kind woman she was. Absolutely no maniacal glint in her eye whatsoever. “If you share your ancient wisdom with us. It’s a shame history was so easily cast aside. We’d like to amend that.”

To remind the World of a darker time...

“I’d love to know myself... It’s a terrible shame the books of Ohara were irreplaceably ruined. I will gladly hear any insight from you about this world’s past...”

      Plenty to talk to Smoothie about it seems, or plenty to come. By the time they had spoken that reply, their composure had returned, the only thing remaining being a slight conflict within their eyes. It wasn’t as if it was just Loki’s own thoughts, the Orochi was riling up at the thought. They wondered how sensitive this woman would be with that fruit of hers. Perhaps they should just focus on those journals instead… It was always stressful for meeting with others of higher status–how they still considered them-self royal, they were. Yet they always managed to pull them-self together when came the actual meeting. Not that they were expecting it.

      They turned to look at Pudding, their expression somewhat softer before they rolled their eye and spoke quieter.

      “ I have experience with another that possessed your mother’s fruit. That is all I will say on the matter. I will be fine no matter the case. Although whether I am just a guest or not, hm…Maybe a conversation for another time, yes? ”

“...Someone else with the Soru Soru...?” It’s hard to imagine others with the devil fruits of her family, but she supposed it made sense that Loki knew many others considering how long he’s lived... It didn’t seem he really wanted to talk about it, nor would there be any time to press. Mama was coming.

Janus, the ancient king, may have been ever adept with his power, but his frame would pale in comparison to the coming Queen... With the slight trembling of hearts and foundation, her steps were echoed even down here. Closer and closer to answer the call of her son. She had been waiting oh so patiently to be met with this special guest of theirs. The wandering ancient who just turned up one day, taking the attention of her Sweet Commander with him. Once more, the library doors swung open...

“Mamamama~ This is our guest?” The sickly sweet voice quickly filled up the vacuous library rooms. Eagerly, she drew closer to take in her treat of a visitor. A little snake that slithered into her kingdom... “Lorelei dek Percival. I was hearing much about you.~ You want to enter my special chamber?~ Only my family is allowed to see what’s inside.”

      “ …Really… ”

      Loki murmured. A quiet spreading over them. They weren’t sure, but given they had already offered…The choice was limited. It was a point where they wished they hadn’t pushed as hard, or at least it would be better to have Smoothie…Or someone else. Not that anything bad would happen, would it? Perhaps it was that sense of paranoia reaching them. A brief instability, just enough for scales to form at the back of their neck, they reached a hand to their neck, rubbing in a method to think but also to partly cover any that might come into sight. The Alabastan hummed…

      “ If you would like to… ”

      They were quieter, murmuring. They did hope this one wasn’t as insane as the previous user, then again…They briefly grimaced, gritting their teeth before their expression returned to a composed calm. If they kept it all beneath a plain expression, then it would never come out. No serpents either.

“What is wrong with you?” Monty mumbled, noticing Loki’s unease. He shook his head. “Nervous to meet her? You’re lucky you’ve managed to stick around so long without having to see her. You can thank Smoothie for that. She’s been vouching for you the whole time...”

He turned away from the two to make his call... It wouldn’t be long...

“Don’t worry Loki. I think Mama will like you. She already has a good impression of you.” Pudding often wore a brave face around her mother. She was her favorite after all~ Nevermind the trauma she endured when she was younger- “She treats valued guests well... And I think Smoothie sees you more than a guest, too...”

      Loki supposed they didn’t understand completely. It was irritating and strange to them why there was such a high restriction just to enter and grab some journals if they were going to be returned anyway…And why would those be there either way? Was it assumed that they contained important details…Maybe everything with ancient text was kept in there…It would not be completely out of the realm of possibilities. They were thinking too deep into it… They let out a sigh then shook their head, there could always be later…At least they could reason with the idea of consequences from an angered parent–especially one of such power that has been shown by Big Mom from just seeing her ability around the island. They wondered…It was certainly possible this soru soru eater was stronger than…They sighed once more.

      “ No need. If there is approval given later on, I am willing to provide the contents of those journals. ”

      To an extent. If they found something in the journals they could simply lie, especially if this librarian hadn’t managed to decipher them by now, they would never have to give exact translations. 

      “ I do doubt your mother has the time at the moment as well…Especially if it is to simply read a few old journals. I assume she is busy..? ”

      They would never expect an immediate response. They were aware of the workload of a ruler, they were one–even if their brother’s line took the crown as a figurehead. Then again this was a pirate ruled archipelago, they hadn’t a clue how organization differed…It could not be too different?

“Mama is right upstairs. I can contact her anytime.” Especially when it was as important as deciphering ancient information. She would be all too giddy about it... She didn’t actually do most of the work around here unless absolutely required, most responsibilities fell upon Big Brother Perospero and the homies... “She would be interested in what you could share with us.”

“I guess you could call her down here...” Pudding knew Loki would likely have to meet Mama herself sometime soon anyway. She didn’t appear all too excited about it.

      “ … ”

      They held their tongue, almost as if they were going to reply with something…Before being interrupted in thought by the dramatic child behind them. Some language that was different from their journals, that they couldn’t read…How could Pudding even know of a language they didn’t know? They were only two and…Hm…They narrowed their remaining eye, turning to look at the nervous three eye. She really was quite desperate…

      “ I am well equipped in many ancient languages, I am a linguist after all…However, there are a few exceptions, I see no reason why would cannot just take my journals out of that vault– ” they presumed it to be some vault. “ –while we wait out here, so that I can look at them. They are clearly now apart of your collection, I have no desire in taking them back. ”

      Keep the focus on the journals, that was more important here, and they…wouldn’t admit that they didn’t like seeing Pudding more nervous. This family was not too dissimilar to their own as a child–disappointing a destructive parent was never a good idea. Plus they had…a feeling they knew what language they were talking about. It made them twitch briefly. 

      “ I do doubt you will be able to translate those journals without me, either. At least a few of those are older than any language you have in this library, I can assure you. ”

“You don’t understand. Nobody is allowed in there without Mama.” Even the members of her own family... It was that secure. Monty himself has been there more than other members, for sure, but it was always under the strict orders of Mama. If it was known he slipped in to grab some books to show to an outsider of the family... He didn’t want to imagine the consequences! He’ll have this issue made known to her... He was interested to see the contents of those journals after all. Monty was a scholar above anything else.

“I’m sorry Loki... I guess we’ll have to ask Mama after all if you can see your journals again... I’m sure she’ll agree... Most of the time she can be very agreeable as long as you don’t do anything to upset her...” Pudding fiddled awkwardly. Monty was being difficult, but not unreasonable... She knew he’d be the one getting in trouble if he agreed to their wishes.

      Loki paused, raising a hand below their chin. Deciphering…How funny. They supposed all dead languages required the skill to decipher. Loki them-self should know this more than many, given their particular edge in linguistics. Even so, they were tempted to simply let it be. See how entertaining it would be for this man to struggle on to understand a language that was older than the void century, far older. At least by a couple of centuries. 

      Rather than letting that pass, they lowered their hand from their chin, waving it somewhat dismissively as they spoke.

      “ Do know, those were my journals. I would have simply liked to see them again, refresh myself on the knowledge which my memory could have fogged. Though I would hate to spoil the thrill of deciphering a dead language. ” 

      A mix of sarcasm and half a taunt. There was a half truth in that statement. They remember staring at that Kozuki script for hours on end. They knew they could translate it, given the permission to move forward with their learning…Damn them for saying no, damn them-self for having some respect in them. Perhaps they would ask again, if there were any Kozukis left…

      “ You have quite the collection anyway, better than a few dusty old books full of chicken scratch. ”

“No matter if they were yours or whatever they really say, access to the private section of the library is forbidden.” The librarian asserted. And nothing Pudding could say would butter him up to the possibility... Unless... Monty squinted. “There could be one exception, if your knowledge is that deep. Do you know any other ancient langua-”

“Oh don’t ask him that!” Pudding suddenly piped up. She puffed dramatically. “That language is way different from the journals. Loki doesn’t know how to read it either. If he did, big sis Smoothie would have brought him to Mama by now! Besides~ I’m going to read it! ... Someday-”

She... at least hoped Loki really couldn’t understand it. Otherwise, her entire act with Mama would be... for nothing... What would her life amount to then??? She could... try killing the snake to avoid that possibility- No! No way! Why think that? Smoothie would be... very upset. And killing him wouldn’t be some cakewalk...

“Huh? Are you threatening me?? If Misao wants to leave Totto Land, she can’t leave alone. I... get she doesn’t want to see me, but I can’t just let her go running off anywhere!” Monty did have rules around here to upkeep. If it wasn’t going to be him, someone of the crew had to follow her at least.
