So what your saying is Maddie needs to be involved to untangle this nonsense these boys put themselves in?
i feel like I've seen so much talk since the finale about Eddie and choosing joy and also so much about him being good at following orders but I haven't really seen anyone connect them yet in the context of 8x06 and 8x18.
when father brian says exactly is "I want you to do something frivolous, something fun, something that expresses pure joy" and despite the whole conversation, Eddie hears that as a one time command. so he does it, he follows orders to do something frivolous and joyful, and then after he does that one thing, because the instruction was to do one thing, it's back to his regularly scheduled misery.
he hasn't gotten there yet. it took everything in him to overcome all the guilt and denial and hurt for one single round of dancing to old time rock and roll, of course he was still looking at plane tickets. he wants to be back in LA but no one has given him permission yet, until Chimney does.
he had effectively already decided, already knew what he wanted, it's just that he always needs permission to want, because he is a catholic-raised former soldier. he does want Buck, wants him so badly in ways he doesn't fully understand yet, but once someone gives him the go ahead on that, oh man. he's gonna be so happy.

Possibly a hot take, but I believe with all my soul that Legally Blonde the musical is the superior Legally Blonde over the movie

Can you explain to me why Chris would be so upset about catching Eddie hugging Kim that he’d move back to Texas over it?? I cannot wrap my mind around this for the life of me
That’s the thing, it really doesn’t make sense when you start digging down properly. I mean yes, it must have been a terrifying shock to Chris initially. Seeing a person you think is your dead mother? Having a moment when you believe she’s come back, only to find out that she isn’t back at all - that she’s leaving you again? Heartbreaking.
Chris does talk about this is 7x01 - he says that he’s been cheating on his girlfriends because he loved his mom and she left - so the implication is that women always leave and there’s no point making any special attachment to them. So that’s the surface reason for the plot. Chris still hasn’t really dealt with his dead mom feelings, Eddie tramples all over them, and Chris leaves.
buuuut. like. I think the way Chris behaves - calling his grandparents to come take him to another state, not coming back for a year - makes it feel like this was the final straw. That he’d been resenting something about Eddie’s parenting for a while and the Kim incident just proved it to him. So what could that thing be??
I’m going to be slightly controversial and say that I don’t think Eddie is always a particularly good parent. He adores Chris, but he doesn’t always know what he needs and how to give it to him. Not surprising because his parents never showed him that - he was essentially a parent himself from childhood, and then he had Chris when he was still a teenager. But I also don’t think he did anything, on the surface, that would make his child cut off contact like this.
So what has he been doing in Chris’s eyes to make this the final straw? I genuinely think that it really only makes sense if you see the Kim plot as a cheating plot, the latest stage in a long line of cheating incidents - Eddie is cheating on Marisol with her. Marisol who he’s only just moved in with! She’s the latest woman who Eddie tried to turn into his mom - but Chris knows that Eddie’s heart’s never been in it because he always prefers to be around Buck. So Chris has been seeing Eddie pretend that a series of women are special, when they’re not.
And the flipside of that is that Buck is the person Eddie’s been pretending isn’t special when he is. Buck is the de facto other parent in Chris’s life - but he and Eddie aren’t nominally together, and in fact Buck keeps having other partners too, that never last. I think that must hurt enormously, and give Chris a real lack of stability. Why aren’t his two parental figures married to each other? Why does he have to keep suffering through a parade of random women (and men!!)?
It felt completely impossible to me that they’d address this head on before I saw 8x11 but now … I think the show actually might acknowledge that Chris has been hurt by the thing between Eddie and Buck that they’ve been dancing around for seven years. I think he went to Texas because he couldn’t handle being an accessory in whatever is going on between them any more. They both use Chris as a shield to hide their feelings for each other, and I get why, under these circumstances, a teenager might just fucking snap and say no more of this shit.

#weewoobrainrot is so real
can we please talk about how them mentioning eddie breaking contact with tommy after the breakup right before tommy admits that eddie was his competition was actual explicit foreshadowing of eddie's pov that we're finally going to see. it's the first outsider perspective we've had that has hinted at buck's feelings not being unrequited other than eddie himself breaking his own walls down enough to admit that leaving him is not nothing and he matters to him
