Constant Output #9: Figuring things out
In this file, I messed around with beveling and curves for my final project.
I wanted to 3D model the flower, so I practiced making shapes with curves:

I also used the boolean tool that I learned from Rhino and it worked exactly the same :) (as expected haha)
Tumblr media
The path/curve tool definitely takes practice, but I think I’m getting used to it :)

Constant Output #8: FINAL HOUSE :)
from last time:
Tumblr media
FINISHED THE HOUSE! I didn’t realize the mistakes I made until the tutorial started adding material, but I was able to fix things based on the things I learned. This is the final product that was made in the tutorial:
Tumblr media
and here’s MINE :)
Tumblr media
at first, I followed his color palette but I couldn’t get it just right
Tumblr media
I messed up on the door frame because I didn’t duplicated the faces and so, I couldn’t change the material. so I just went back in and made new copies of the door frame and window frame!
I also messed with the background and made this pretty ombre one:
Tumblr media
I really loved this tutorial. It taught me soo much and a lot of the tools used to make this are important for all of Blender :D

Constant Output #7: Low-Poly House 2
I finished the modeling of the house and environment! We added shrubs using metaballs which were fun to use, and small leafs + mailbox.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wanted to take a render image of the base model, but I think I need to download an isometric camera plugin that the tutorial used. I am still struggling with angles and lighting.
Tumblr media
But here is the final house before I add materials in. Next will be the finalized product! Woo

Constant Output #6: Low-Poly House (1)
This week, I decided to take another shot at building a house. I found a real tutorial this time! This is the tutorial I was following:
Tumblr media
We started off by building the main portion of the house. I was actually having a lot of fun so I forgot to take screenshots of the early stages, but basically we put in a plane and built the house from a cube. Used a lot of the bevel, inset, and extrude tools.
Tumblr media
This tutorial is so helpful and I think I learned more here than I did in the donut one. Below is a picture of me figuring out how easy it is to shorten something- in this case, the door.
Tumblr media
I really liked this step because we added bricks and shingles to the chimney and roof to make it look more cartoony and fun. If you look carefully, you can see the bricks are a bit rounded, and that’s because I applied the same bevel modifiers from the house.
Tumblr media
Render of the house! Because I’m still struggling with lighting, you can’t see the chimney bricks that well :( Next week, I will be finishing the modeling part, and if possible, will do the materials :)

Assignment #7: Evolution Timeline #1
the NANOCAN
1000s : first appearance of the watering can, but known as the “watering pot”
1692 : the name “watering can” first appears in Timothy Keeble’s Diary
1850 : iron, brass, and zinc are used to make the watering can
1886 : patent of the “Haws” watering can by John Haws, which makes the pot more easier to carry and tip
1900s - 2020 : watering cans in cool shapes and colors are used not only as tools in gardening but also for display and decoration
2100 : watering cans are becoming more common for people to carry around. they are easy to refill at public fountains. many designers and small shops sell watering cans with cool designs because it has also become an accessory.
2200 : everyone has a watering can. it’s essential. if you don't have one with you, people look at you strangely because everybody wants to contribute to the well being of the planet. they are much smaller in size and local governments have built fountains they are solely for refilling watering cans.
2400 : people want to help the planet, and the government (led by scientists) know that. the development of the nanocan begins. they want to create a watering can that will be easy to carry in all locations, specifically long hikes and climbs so that people can help heal nature in hard to reach locations (people were less likely to bring a watering can on an excursion).
2600 : nanocan is released to the public for free. it took a lot of money and research but all citizens of the planet are assigned one. everybody loves it. it is small, efficient, and powerful. wildlife and nature on Earth is flourishing. healing the Earth is no longer an obligation, but a desire :)

Assignment #6: Framing Story
It is the Year 3000 and the world is not what it was in 1000 years ago. It’s beautiful. Climate change is no longer an issue and tropical rainforests are flourishing, not endangered. Ecosystems across the planet thrive with life and a seemingly endless supply of resources. What changed? People started to respect nature.
Once many realized that we as people are not greater than nature, the brutal exploitation of its resources began to slow down. Companies started to strictly go green, and unnecessary materials like styrofoam stopped in production. Leaders turned to scientists for guidance, and societies flourished under this educated leadership.
While solar powered cars took over in 2400, the new global transportation system ended the need for cars. Inspired by the Hyperloop, this new form of railway transportation connects all land on Earth, where even the trip with the longest distance does not take more than 10 hours. Because there is no need for cars and buses anymore, there is more room on the roads for nature and pedestrians.
What the people of 3000 value the most is the importance of healing nature- which is why everybody carries around the nanocan. The nanocan is a small yet highly technological version of the original watering can, which has the ability to heal and nourish dying plants. This keeps the Earth full of beautiful plants and trees, and everybody can contribute. Without having to refill it, the nanocan releases water with nourishing electrolytes that visibly improve a plant’s condition.
Life on Earth is at its peak, and it is all because we turned to nature for guidance.
Message:
The message will be delivered in an infomercial, advertisement type of video by the government, aka the people who created nanocan. While the government is very hard to trust in today’s society, it is important to note that over the years, world leaders have turned to scientists and research to improve the quality of life on Earth. The “green party” is no longer its separate group; it is a fundamental part of all governments, and there is no debate about it. Leaders are candid and put the well being of not only their people first, but also the protection of our environment.
This advertisement of the nanocan will showcase its abilities to quickly heal dying plants, along with how much the people of 3000 are able to contribute to the planet’s health and flourishment :)

Sketchbook #8: Coloring
coloring is therapeutic, and sometimes, you just need to sit down and color. that’s what I did. I’m most definitely not good at drawing, but it’s still relaxing to doodle for a bit and color with some nice colored pencils :)

assignment #5: love letter <3
dear Nature,
I love you. I know we aren’t as close as we once used to be, but I think about you all the time. I always dream about living in the middle of nowhere, in a small cottage somewhere in the woods... maybe a cabin on a prairie? Whenever I consider where I’ll be in five years, my heart feels torn because I want to be with you, but at the same time, I’m scared to leave what I’m used to. Sometimes, I wish I could just Henry David Thoreau my life and go live in solitude. Maybe that’s what will happen in the future. We can all live in harmony with the beauty that is nature while maintaining access to technology and the efficiency of the modern world. Is that too much to ask for? I don’t think so... I think something great is coming in the near future... For now, I just beg of you to not give up on us. I know people have disrespected and mistreated you for centuries, but please know that there is good coming. I have so much love and admiration for you, and with all that people have developed over the years, I know we can come together soon to create a beautiful world <3
love,
kristin ^_^

Sketchbook #7: Bubble Letters <3
I did some more doodling on fun letters and did a bubble style. I really like bubbly, cutesy typefaces, and decided to work on my round letters. Next, I want to make this 3D :)

Sketchbook #6: Block Letters 2.0
I wanted to do some more doodling on block letters. This time, I googled “3d block letters” and used an image as a reference. The blocking in these letters seems to be from bottom --> top, whereas the letters I did freely in Sketch #4 were made 3d from left --> right

Assignment #4: Card Sorting
At least 20 years from now, I want our civilization to be dreamlike- surrounded by nature and highly advanced technology. I don’t know if this will ever happen in my lifetime... but I imagine a world where we can coexist with nature without causing harm and destruction. Our architecture is sleek and simple, and what matters is how the structures fit within a nature setting.

Response #8: Zander’s Presentation
What I found very intriguing about Zander’s presentation is how close we are getting to recreating reality in the virtual space. Digital landscapes in realistic video games are nearly identical to real world settings, and 3D people are becoming more and more indistinguishable. My favorite part was the discussion on the uncanny valley. I found this almost amusing because we seem to have a word to describe everything we feel. However, I do remember how weird I felt when I first saw Lil Miquela. When I found her Instagram back in high school, I was so puzzled because the process of 3D modeling and AR/VR was not something I was informed about. For a lot of people not familiar with this industry, I suppose the uncanny valley is a common place to be O_O
