ok i was talking about this w my irls today but has anyone else noticed this weird dichotomy of everyone being demonstrably broke but also lots of people spending huge sums on luxuries at the same time. i feel like i see more teslas every day. i see tweets w people spending hundreds at ulta or sephora on a lark. manhattan is bursting w tourists. i think i have a pretty high salary for someone my age and i feel like shit just for spending 250 on headphones that i really, really wanted and intended to use often. i feel bad even thinking about buying bottles of perfume that are less than 100 dollars. i try to avoid ordering takeout bc it feels too indulgent. where are people getting this kind of scratch. i thought we were all broke.
