Backpacking In Europe
Written for @klarosummerbingo from the prompt ‘backpacking in Europe’ - sorry if it’s a bit late.
Summary: Wherein there is no actual backpacking in Europe, and Kol’s friendship with Caroline may prove useful to Klaus after all.
“KLAUS! KLAAAAAUUUUUS!”
The front door shuddered with the force of each bang, each urgent knock so loud it probably could be heard ten doors down. Cursing, Klaus stumbled out of the bathroom and hurried towards the door, hand drying his wet hair with a towel as he went.
“KLAUS! KLA-”
“ALRIGHT! Bloody hell, will you shut-” Klaus yanked the door open, ready to deliver a few choice words, only to freeze at the sight of the woman before him. Standing on the doorstep, hand poised to knock, blonde tresses elegantly falling down across her shoulders, was-
“Caroline.” Klaus breathed.
She narrowed her eyes, sending him a sharp glare. “Did you not hear me the first time?” Caroline’s free hand landed on her hip, giving her quite the irritated demeanour. Her other arm was occupied, carrying a large white box with eggshell blue tissue paper peeking out the lid.
“Of course I heard you, Caroline.” Klaus rolled his eyes, leaning on the door jamb, gathering back his senses from the momentary surprise. Wasn’t she supposed to be out with Kol? “I’m pretty sure the whole of Mystic Falls heard you.”
“Then why didn’t you answer?”
“Because I was in a shower.” He gestured to himself, to the clearly fresh clothes, the towel hanging around his neck, wet hair curling as it dried. “Though if you’d prefer me to answer the door in nothing but a towel next time I will.”
She blushed, hiding it with a scoff. Klaus smirked, catching it anyway. Caroline glared at him, pushing past him into his apartment. “Look, it doesn’t matter. Are you free right now?”
“I haven’t got any plans.” Klaus said cautiously, closing the door behind her with a frown. He turned around, sending her a suspicious glance as she walked towards the living room. “Why?”
“YOUR BROTHER IS AN ASS!” She called over her shoulder.
Right. One of those nights, then.

Auld Lang Syne
Done for @klarosummerbingo prompt: "And that's when we were asked to leave the zoo."
With two centuries under her belt, Caroline knew the ropes of vampirism well. She had even sired a new one a few years ago, a girl she’d found bleeding out in an alleyway in Miami and given her blood to, but the girl was so drunk even with that in her system that she’d tripped off the pier and drowned.
Caroline wasn’t exactly thrilled to see the girl, newly undead, staring at her. Still, she’d done what Katherine never had and taken responsibility for her new sireling.
Vampire 101 consisted of a brief introduction to compulsion that featured morals, how to best rob a hospital of blood bags, sinking fangs into the arterial vein in a way that didn’t cause a dramatic spray like in the movies, and which wild animals were worth the chase in case an alternate food source was desired. Not to toot her own horn, but Caroline made a pretty great teacher. She made lesson plans, taught by example, and all the classes came with a field trip.
Maria, the newly turned vampire she’d accidentally sired, had taken to it like a natural. She even passed the final exam on her first try.
Except for now Caroline was regretting not staking her the moment she transitioned.

Done for @klarosummerbingo prompt "summer acting class"
Shoving the prospective script across the table, Caroline leaned back into her seat with a huff. She only just barely resisted crossing her arms to complete the indignant pose. Assigned partner projects were such bullshit when the only reason she’d only signed up for the summer acting class was in order to spend more time with Tyler, whose mom kept harping on him to do something for the community rather than just go to football camp.
Caroline did plenty in the community. The beautification committee was her home turf, but she figured that if Tyler thought that the acting class would be the easiest course to get through, she could win some good girlfriend points by tagging along. They’d get to do some thinly-veiled monologues about the hopefulness of first loves, maybe share a kiss on stage for the scene that she’d write that would win the closing competition. That was the plan, and it was a good plan. Caroline liked that plan.
Instead, the drama teacher had paired them up with whoever he’d seen fit. Now, rather than looking longingly at Tyler as she repeated her lines back to him, she was sitting across from Klaus Mikaelson and watching as he had the nerve to strike through her stage directions with red pen.
Although, Caroline had to admit that there were worse ways to spend her summer than sitting across from a hot, older, college guy.
He was one of Rebekah’s older brothers who was home for summer, and had apparently taken the class as a favor to her. Rebekah had dropped out in a fit when she found out that they didn’t have a costume budget, though, and so now Klaus spent the afternoons drawing in his sketch book while they learned the distinction between a monologue and a soliloquy. And apparently critiquing Caroline’s excellent handiwork on their assignment.
“Listen, all you have to do is say the lines and this can be over with,” she pleaded with him, looking over his shoulder at where Tyler was throwing a football around with Matt in the town square. He’d finished working on his scene earlier in the day, but that was mostly because Caroline had agreed to draft up something workable.
Klaus shook his head and then made another redline. Honestly, the fact that he’d even brought a red pen to their meeting irked at her. “It doesn’t feel real,” he said at last.
“Newsflash,” Caroline snapped, “it isn’t.”

What Strange Creatures Brothers Are!
One more short drabble for @klarosummerbingo
Prompt: Shark Week
This is supposed to be silly - cracky humor. Kol is a pervert and I'm not original with my jokes. No direct references or anything, but implied kinky naughtiness.

Klaroline fanfic update: A Good Bet
I’m working on the next chapter of my Klaroline story, A Good Bet. Here’s a quick look:
Caroline didn’t lose her shit until the second flower delivery truck arrived. Her living room was overflowing with beautiful calla lilies, spilling out into her dining room and even her kitchen. It was her favorite flower; she even had a reproduction of Rivera’s The Flower Seller in her dining room. She glared at the enormous crystal vases carved with delicate, lacey designs that perfectly matched her decor. That dimpled asshat knew exactly what gifts to send. They weren’t gifts — they were bribes.

Prompt: Fishing @klarosummerbingo
The sea was rough, the storm raging in a way that Klaus would not have set sail if he had realized just how bad the weather was going to be. His boat rocked as the storm pushed on around him and he cursed his luck. He was a simple man trying to make a living, and living in a small ocean side town in Maine, deep sea fishing really was the most lucrative career move. Mix that with his love of the ocean, and he found that he simply could not stay away.
Klaus could have put his rode down for a short time and relaxed for the night. He could have stayed in his small craftsman home, alone with nothing but his thoughts. It was not as though he had a family. His sister had married, settled down with a baby on the way and the relationship with his brothers was tedious at best. There was a woman in town, long blonde hair and blue eyes that cast judgement with every gaze.
Klaus’s ship was found wrecked at shore the next morning, his body never to be received. Yet, as the years passed, some say that they could see an image of him in the water; swimming with impossible grace but when they blinked, he was gone.ei’s eyes, the golden curls of her hair seemed like a mere echo to something else and yet Klaus could not place it.
The boat rocked, nearly toppling over into the sea. He heard the tightening of the pulley, noting that something was caught in his net. Walking through the pouring rain, he made his way to the net, debating whether or not he should simply cut his losses and toss it aside. It was only holding him back and the brewing storm was only bound to get worse. Klaus knew that he should get back to the shore.
But then something rough hit the side of the boat, nearly toppling it over. Klaus moved quicker, realizing that whatever caught itself in his net was massive and it was fighting to free itself. With all his upper body strength, and the help of the crane, Klaus was able to pull the net onto the dock of his boat.
And what he saw made him freeze.
Inside the net was the most beautiful woman he had ever laid eyes on. She had blonde hair that was almost white and stunning blue eyes that peered directly into his soul. Her chest was naked, her breasts free to the world and where her legs should have been, was a long blue and silver tail.
“You.” The mermaid stated in what appeared to be a gorgeous yet hostile voice. Klaus’s body was frozen, terrified at what he was seeing. He had thought that maybe he had toppled his ship and died; entering heaven in the depths below the sea. “Put me back! How dare you pull me from the water!”
“You’re a mermaid.” Klaus uttered, his eyes wide as he blinked, trying to get the rain water out of his eyes as he gazed at her. The rocking of the ship fell into the background and all he could see was the woman before him. He wanted to reach out and touch her, feel her. There was a seduction about her that Klaus could not fight, something was drawing him in.
“And you’re a land walker! Untangle me!” She hissed, rolling her eyes at his stupor. Klaus shook himself, pulling out his pocket knife and cutting through the thick rope that held her down. Careful not to knit her fin, Klaus pulled her free and the mermaid flapped her tail with such force, he thought she might topple his boat. “Thank you.”
“I’m sorry…..if I had known, I would have never casted that net.” Klaus stuttered, feeling her blue eyes studying his face. The anger and annoyance had vanished, replaced with curiosity and desire. She reached out, touching his face; running her fingers over his plump lips and wet curls. Her touch was a mixture of warm and cold, an essence that should not coincide but Klaus could not explain what it was that he felt. All he knew was that he wanted her to keep touching him.
“You’re a pretty one.” She whispered, cocking her head to the side. “And I like pretty things.” Her thumb spread over his lips, parting them slightly and Klaus fought against the urge to kiss her. “My name is Caroline. What is yours?”
“Klaus.”
“Klaus. It is a shame that you will not survive the night.” Caroline said in a somber tone, her blue eyes flickering up to the sky and feeling the boat rock against the angry sea. “Many men have fallen to Davy Jones for attempting to battle such weather. It makes me sad to see a man so beautiful fall to such depths.”
“There is so much about the ocean we do not know about.” Klaus stuttered out, gasping as the ship rocked roughly again. Caroline moved her hand, gripping his coat and pulling him close. She held him in her arms, peering down at him with avid attention, her fingers tracing the length of his nose. “If I had known-”
“It doesn't matter. Tonight's the night you’ll die.” Caroline cooed and a hum sounded from the back of her throat; a beautiful melody that made everything seem right in the world. It was low and peaceful, causing Klaus to feel nothing; not the storm or the cold rain. All he could focus on was the sight of beautiful and perfect Caroline, listening to her intoxicating song. “No. I think I’ll keep you instead.”
Caroline gripped him tighter, her siren's song growing louder and louder. Klaus felt himself being jerked upright and if he could have spoken or said anything, he may have screamed. She pulled him over the edge and into the dark and terrifying water. The moment they were submerged, Caroline’s song grew louder. Her voice consumed him, hiding the fact that he could not breathe. He could not feel the pain as his lungs fought for air as she pulled him deeper and deeper into the ocean.
When they neared the bottom, Caroline’s song stopped and for a moment, Klaus panicked; fear setting into him. But then Caroline pulled him into a searing kiss, pressing her body to his and suddenly, Klaus felt as though he could breathe.
Klaus’s ship was found wrecked at shore the next morning, his body never to be received. Yet, as the years passed, some say that they could see an image of him in the water; swimming with impossible grace but when they blinked, he was gone.

Klaroline Drabble
Six months after their separation and thirty-nine hours before they’re set to appear before a judge, a chance meeting in Central Park has Klaus and Caroline rethinking the biggest decision of their lives. As hot air balloons float overheard and happy families celebrate all around, they begin to wonder if it isn’t too late to change their minds. Angsty with a happy ending.
Written for @klarosummerbingo using the prompt, “Hot Air Balloon.”
Thirty-Nine Hours
Caroline eyed his hand holding the cross and noted that his wedding ring was still on his finger. “That’s not the only thing,” she commented more to herself than to him.
Klaus looked over just in time to see her right hand cover her left, two fingers spinning her own ring around like it was something she did a thousand times a day. “You either.” Their eyes met for a brief moment before both looked away. “Italy was a good trip,” he redirected, his throat slightly constricted. He stabbed the frozen lemonade hard with his straw a few times, frowning. “And the gelato melted easier than these blasted things.”
“The polar ice caps melt faster than these,” the blonde agreed, huffing. Pushing her bag off the checkered blanket, she dumped half of the strawberry lemonade onto the grass. Noticing the way the drink was going to melt, he moved her bag to the other side of him just to be safe. “There. Much better,” she announced, swirling what was left around with her straw. Wrapping her lips around the yellow plastic, she finally managed a decent sip. Closing her eyes, she let the frozen sugar melt on her tongue with satisfaction. When she opened them, she found an amused smile lingering on her almost ex-husband’s raspberry lips. “Okay, fine. I’m impatient.”
“You always were,” Klaus chuckled, ducking his head to peek up at her from beneath long lashes. “Remember the one time we went to that water park? We had the fast passes, but even ten minutes was too long for you to wait.”
“Okay, it was like a billion degrees out and I wasn’t wearing shoes,” Caroline pointed out defensively, still vividly able to recall the way the cement burned her bare feet. “And you weren’t complaining when we went back to the room.”
“No, I was not,” he agreed, flashing his dimples and wiggling his eyebrows at the happy memory. “We didn’t come out until it was time to go to the airport.”
“Yeah, and we were in such a hurry that we forgot your- what was it?” Squinting her eyes, she tried to remember, but he answered for her.
“My laptop.”
“Right, yeah,” she agreed, nodding. “And we had to go back.”
“Damn near missed the flight.” Their eyes met and she looked away with a blush at the sight of his trademark smirk. They’d almost missed the flight because they hadn’t been able to keep their hands off each other. “It was worth it, though.” Klaus contemplatively eyed his future ex-wife nodding as a small smile graced her lips in his presence for the first time since they’d separated. “What?”
Caroline looked over at him awkwardly and stirred her drink. “It’s just… Talking to you just now, like we used to… It made me remember something that I hadn’t thought about since…” Her voice trailed off, but even months later, he could still finish her sentences.
“Since you hated me?” he quipped, trying to keep the bitterness from his tone as he quirked an eyebrow.
“Well, yeah.” Caroline forced a smile and nodded uncomfortably as golden curls bounced around her shoulders, doing her best not to ruin the first moment of civility they’d had since she’d sent him away screaming. “Since then.”
Klaus hummed thoughtfully, internally debating whether or not he wanted to know. Deciding that he had to know because this was Caroline, he risked asking, “What did you remember?”
Swallowing hard, she exhaled in a whoosh and tried to keep her tone light despite the way her eyes began to burn. “That I used to love you.”

Klaroline Drabble
Klaus and Caroline are undercover agents working to take down Katherine Pierce’s ring of drug traffickers from inside the Augustine Women’s Correctional Facility. When Caroline lands in the hole after a fight, Klaus uses his sway as Unit Manager to get her out after only two days. She’d be a lot more grateful that it was only a weekend if he and his damn dimples weren’t enjoying having her trapped in a cement box so much.
“Soon, we’ll have Katherine Pierce right where we want her. When she comes to you - and she will come to you - do what you have to do to earn her trust. Report back to me whatever she asks of you and I’ll do what I can on my end.“
"When?” Caroline asked in a demanding tone. “When am I supposed to report these trust-earning things to you? This is the longest conversation we’ve had since I’ve been here.”
“That’ll change now that everyone thinks we have an arrangement. I had to keep my distance before when you were just one of the many, but getting you alone shouldn’t be a problem anymore.” Tilting his head, he added firmly, “And you should be grateful you’ve been seeing me as often as you have. You may not have noticed, but checking on you is the first and last thing I do everyday, and many times in between. That’s more attention than I’ve ever gotten on a job. When I was undercover in a prison, my handler had to pose as my husband. I saw him once a week during visitation and we had to talk in code.”
Caroline’s face lit up at his unintentional admission. “You had to pretend to be gay?”
“I don’t want to talk about it,” he replied quickly, a flush creeping up his neck. She pressed her lips together but couldn’t stop herself from giggling at his obvious discomfort. “It was for a brief period and our fake marriage was monogamous, I assure you. You can count that as another one of my lines.”
“Good to know,” the baby agent chuckled, trying very hard to compose herself. It took several minutes because each time she looked up, his annoyed expression sent her into another fit of laughter until she was doubled over. Eventually, she straightened up and pulled her head from her lap, lips still curved in amusement. “So, if it came down to it, this whole you and me thing is just an act? You wouldn’t really…”
“Oh, if it were you?” Klaus’ eyes took on a mischievous glint, his tone far too enthusiastic. “No, you I would absolutely take to bed if I had to. And I’d be exceptionally liberal when defining if I have to.”
“What?”
“I’d do it. I’d enjoy it. I’d make sure you enjoyed it and then I’d never let you forget it.” It was his turn to laugh out loud at her flabbergasted expression, lips parted and eyes wide as her cheeks reddened. She punched him in the bicep, but that only amused him further. “Well, can you blame me? Have you looked in a mirror lately? My handler then was a balding middle aged man with a weight problem and an affinity for garlic. You’re a gorgeous young woman.”
Caroline looked at him like he’d lost his mind. “I haven’t showered in two days!”
“So?” he laughed, wiping a tear from his eye. “You’re still the prettiest girl in here by far.”
The blonde thought of the other women in Unit C. Most were missing teeth, couldn’t afford acne wash from commissary and had never heard of the gym. With the possible exception of Katherine (and maybe Hayley if lights were low and she didn’t open her mouth), none of them were entering any beauty contests. “That’s not saying much.”
When Klaus’ laughter finally subsided, he conceded. “Alright, that’s fair.” He grinned at the way she was forcing herself to glare at him and not laugh, too. “Still, it’s a compliment. Take it and say thank you.”
Caroline shook her head, lips quirking despite her best efforts not to smile. “I’m not thanking you for that.”
“You would if we slept together.” He laughed so hard at the way her jaw dropped that he nearly fell over.
Throwing up her hands, she shook her incredulously. “How can one man be so cocky with little to no encouragement?”
“A little goes a long way.” Wagging his eyebrows, he added mischievously, “And that’s an interesting choice of words, cocky. You’ve got a dirty mind, Caroline Forbes.”
“Klaus!” The baby agent blushed furiously, hiding her face in her hands in embarrassment at the slip. “Ohmigod.”

This was written for @klarosummerbingo. Canon-ish AU in which Klaus pretends to be Alaric to spy on the dimwitted Mystic Falls gang. But he didn’t count on a clever blonde distraction…
Prompt: Sexy summer secret
Student Engagement
The Bastille in the early 18th century had been a fetid pit of fear, where one waded in ankle-deep human waste while listening to the prisoners’ piteous wails. Klaus once had the misfortune of hiding from Mikael in the vermin-infested, subterranean cells of the Bastille. And it still didn’t prepare him for the nightmarish scenario of teaching high school history. Maddox had handily cast the spell so that he could embody a trusted member of the doppelganger’s circle. Unfortunately, this meant Klaus was trapped temporarily within mediocre flesh.
He hadn’t given much thought to the tedious existence of Alaric Saltzman, but now that he was faced with the mundane details, he lamented his missing fangs to the point that he started grinding his borrowed teeth to soothe his beast. It should’ve been a simple exchange with the principal’s head servant, but instead it spiraled hopelessly out of control. Apparently, in addition to meager pay and enduring psychological abuse on par with the Stanford Prison Experiment, teachers were expected to toil away in a gymnasium hanging tasteless dance decorations. The peasants had revolted for far less in 1381.
Klaus barely restrained himself from leaping over the desk to throttle this petty minion of public school administration. Once he was able to reclaim his true form, Klaus vowed to feed Mildred her liver. For now, he would satisfy his bloodlust by smashing those ridiculous ceramic frogs on his lunchbreak.
He marched into his classroom with a scowl as he tugged self-consciously on his wrinkled jacket. Was it some dreadful polyblend? Canvas? How did humans live like this? Ignoring the vacant expressions of Alaric’s students, he lazily slid his gaze across the room to find his doppelganger.
And then he saw her
. She sat next to his doppelganger, commanding the room with little more than a raised brow and a bladed smile.
