GOOD UX DESIGN
This external disc drive is an example of good UX design. I have had it for 10 years and it works for both Mac and PC. It is extremely easy to use and doesn鈥檛 require any software download. When the user plugs it into the computer, the disc pops up on the desktop and if it is a DVD (like I was using) the native media player will open and play the disc. There is no other buttons on it other than the open/close button and there is a light that flashes to signal to the user that the drive is responsive.

BAD UX DESIGN
This webpage is an example of bad UX design due to the broken links for the images of the paintings. Every single image on the page didn鈥檛 work, which would result in the user promptly leaving the site out of frustration. Not only that, but some of the images were skewed off to the right side of the page when everything else, including text, was centered.

Week 3
Bad UX
I found some elements on the mobile website selling merch for the band Falling In Reverse to be example of bad UX design. The menu wasn鈥檛 at the top, which isn鈥檛 necessarily a bad thing, however personally I鈥檓 not a fan of the menu bar floating at the bottom and following me from page to page. I also didn鈥檛 like that there wasn鈥檛 a way to shop for specific items, such as sweatshirts or posters. I visited the site to look for a sweatshirt and instead of shopping the way I would on other sites, I had to flip through all of the merchandise. The menu itself was very limited and I felt like those options didn鈥檛 need a large floating menu element dedicated to them. Lastly, the search element was at the very bottom of the page and was so small I almost missed it. Overall I like the visual aesthetic of the site and think that it reflects the band well, but I think there are some changes that could be made to coincide with what the user expects to see.

Week 3
Good UX Design
The Backtap from Brumate is an example of good design that I experienced this week. It can be a cooler (that holds 14 slim cans) or a drink dispenser (that holds 3 gallons). It is great to bring camping, to parties, on the boat, and so much more. The metal insert on the inside comes out and is easy to clean. It also features adjustable backpack straps to make carrying it much easier, which is necessary when it is filled up and heavy. We used it for ice water this time and it kept the water ice cold until the water was gone, however it would have kept it cold for the whole day. The dispenser works very well and doesn鈥檛 leak. There is rubber on the bottom to help it stay in place, which is beneficial when out on the boat. The versatility of this product is great and there are many color options to choose from. Overall I love this product, it is easy to use, easy to transport, and does exactly what it is advertised to do.

Week 2
Bad UX
Kindle app for Mac
聽While I never prefer an digital book to the real thing, I downloaded the kindle version of a textbook as a last resort. When I first flipped through the book to try and find a specific page, I noticed that the page numbers weren鈥檛 in sequential order. Instead, they would skip forward a handful of pages at a time, sometimes up to 15 or 20 pages. I then went to the search bar and typed in the number 53 however I got a popup telling me that page didn鈥檛 exist. I spent quite a bit of time messing around trying to find my way to the right pages before realizing that even though the page numbers were incorrect, the pages themselves did go in the right order. This was an example of bad UX because it was inaccurate and frustrating. If I had not figured it out when I did, I would have likely deleted the app.

Week 2
Good UX
Battery operated fairy lights
聽I bought these lights from Amazon to use for a Halloween craft. The lights have a variety of light settings, such as twinkle, fade, and wave. The lights can be turned on and off, as well as switched from different settings, with both a button on the remote pack as well as a remote control. I liked that aspect because if the remote is misplaced or lost, the lights can still be used. The buttons on 聽both the battery pack and the remote were very responsive. The buttons on the remote were clearly labeled. The lights themselves are on a metal wire, which means they can be bent to fit the user鈥檚 needs. Overall the lights were a good example of UX because they were easy to use, had a range of customization, and performed exactly the way I expected.
