alex rider series you are so ridiculous. if you, say, know the broad strokes and most major spoilers but not the smaller plot points of these books, when the guy who has been mysteriously appearing to save alex’s ass all book reveals towards the end of crocodile tears that his name is rahim and he works for a different intelligence agency that has sent him to Kenya as an assassin and that he insists alex sends all communications through, one might, if they know that the antagonist of the next book is a guy named razim (sometimes rahim depending on the website) who works for scorpia, think that this is going to be setup for the next book, with rahim saving alex yassen-style just to reveal ulterior motives and kick off some villainous events. unfortunately this was just a classic Anthony Horowitz Racism Moment (does he only know two middle eastern names????) because these two characters are not related in any way and rahim dies very quickly leaving one to feel kind of stupid for distrusting him for like 50 pages until he got shot in the neck. and then kind of annoyed bc he really was just a deus ex machina character who really was in the story just to save alex and then die instead of an interesting character with a good reason to always be there when shit got real.

If show rick met comic carl how do you think it would go? How would he feel towards this version of him? and if comic carl and show carl swaped places with eachother (say during season 7) how would the plot change?
Oh gosh, that’s kind of a loaded question.
Honestly, it’s hard to say. I feel like show!Rick is so very far removed from the source material, to the point they are hardly the same character. The same goes for Carl.
I don’t think show!Rick would get along well with Carl’s comic version, because while comic!Carl becomes the more aggressive and wild card of the duo, I feel the opposite is the case for the tv show.
Show!Rick is completely unhinged in a way he never was in the comic book. He’s way more ruthless and reflective of this apocalyptic world, whereas show!Carl is not… I feel like in a hypothetical scenario like this, show!Rick would attempt to control comic!Carl in a way that might be kind of detrimental to their relationship? Idk. I mean, show!Rick does this even with show!Carl but the end result isn’t the same because show!Carl is almost entirely docile and does not have any of the edge that comic!Carl possesses.
I think if comic!Carl were to suddenly replace show!Carl, the end of the story would be a much bleaker one. Carl is a character that NEEDS his father’s guidance and hand to steady him psychologically. Without his father, he is lost. And I don’t think show!Rick is capable of providing that kind of guidance that is necessary for Carl to grow up and live long enough to have a family of his own and see a new dawn of civilization. I think comic!Carl would soak up show!Rick’s unhinged traits like a sponge and spiral, and probably become something much worse than what we see canonically. He wouldn’t just walk that line of anti hero, or take a beating on someone a bit too far. He would cross it. And I don’t know that he would come back from it with show!Rick being his tether.
This is also my gripe with the characterizations of the tv show. I think the biggest mistake they made early on, was having Rick kill Shane while he was still alive, instead of giving that canonical kill to Carl.
This death sets up Carl and Rick’s entire dynamic and relationship throughout the remainder of the comic book. Carl does things Rick can’t bring himself to. He reflects a new generation in a dying world. He toes that line of morality, and it scares Rick. It’s WHY Rick fights so hard to bring back a semblance of the old life. Because by doing so, he is continuing to save his son—not physically but psychologically.
Carl kills Shane without hesitation. This is who he is. He shoots first and thinks later for a lot of the story. He’s the wild card and completely unpredictable. He’s so engaging because we don’t know what’s going to happen to him, and for a lot of the story, that uncertainty is echoed in Rick, too.
But the show changes this crucial moment by making Rick have the guts to kill Shane. It completely changes the nature of their relationship as father and son, and the tone of the story from that point on. It also creates continuous wishy washy characterizations (because the writers kept trying to adapt the comic book but it didn’t work because they changed the central relationship). They make Carl Rick’s moral compass when Carl isn’t and never should have been. Rick shouldn’t look to Carl for guidance. It should be the other way around.
So, comic!Carl would be seeking guidance from Rick’s show counterpart and I think it would ultimately be disastrous.
This was a long answer lol, sorry! I love blorbos though so this was fun to ponder. Comic Rick and Carl are peak and I love them sm :)

#LITERALLY LITERALLY#i don't dislike their show dynamic but the show so severely underutilized carl and it never fails to drive me insane#WHY did they change the storyline with the twins. like that one especially makes me so mad. show needed more child on child violence.#carl is supposed to serve as the only character who is completely influenced by the new world they're living in#it hurt the show so much to keep him from going more morally gray. they gave me glimpses and nothing more :(#and then they killed him for no reason. stupid show. evil show. angry til i die about that one.#twd
