Calling this compost knitting, as I'm utilizing swatches instead of unworked yarn. The yellow/purple kitty swatch was actually my first attempt at intarsia! Eons ago! I just never throw things away!

Major coloring-outside-the-lines energy + so fun to not care. Using a spool of reinforcement thread from the inside of a Lang skein to seam. Everything is compostable.

Oh wow. Oh that…. That is BEAUTIFUL, OP.
Tumblr media
Current dimensions are five foot eight inches
I can not fix the skew or try to increase blocking tension because it sawed through a point of edging, and I will have to repair that
Pattern is lerwick lace by Sharon Miller on Etsy (it's partially like, historical research too, and contains multiple versions of instructions)
Yarn is Jamison and smith 1 ply Shetland, and I want to throw the rest of my cone in the fire
Time spent: five months, two days
Soon to be three days, so I can properly repair that edging point and trim ends
@lacewise figure you might wanna see the results since we chatted about our wips

Colours definitely not true to life, but done and dusted!
I swear I have to reinvent the wheel every time with French knots. I need three hands!

A mix of intarsia, fair-isle, and slip stitch color work. I’m kinda excited about how good they look in the photo.

Silly Question the Third
So I'm looking over my weaving maths and need some help figuring out if I am calculating my EPI incorrectly for that double weave project.
19 WPI ÷ 2 = 9.5 EPI (this half # feels off)
× 15" (width on loom)
= 142.5
× 2 (for the double weave)
= 285 Warp Ends
Should I have rounded the 9.5 up to 10?

I fell into a pattern of simply filling up spindles over the last few months. So here’s the 100s of meters of thread that needs to be de-spindled, plyed, & finished.

the first day of my hand drafting class in my senior year of college, after the prof taught us how to frame up on the drafting table and went over how to use the tools we'd bought, he had us all take our pencils and make a mark on the top right corner of the vellum. then he walked us through the setup steps - the border, the title block, etc.
and he told us to erase the mark.
when someone - rosie, i think - asked what the mark was for he smiled.
"if you give a novice student an expensive, blank piece of paper, they panic. they think if i start using that i will ruin it. so the first thing i want all of you to do, any time you stare at a blank piece of paper, is to ruin it a little and take the pressure off yourself. pencil erases. anxiety has to be managed."
i hated that man for a myriad of reasons, but that was some of the best advice i've ever been given.
