🚨This is a Red Alert for net neutrality 🚨
Last December, the FCC voted to to kill net neutrality. If we do not take action, this will kill the free and open internet as we know it. The internet needs you—all of you—to make sure your voices are heard NOW.
We need all hands on deck for this one. It may be our last chance. If you’re feeling under-informed and overwhelmed about why net neutrality is so incredibly important, we have this handy guide just for you.
Here’s what you can do to save the internet:
In mid-May, the Senate will vote on a resolution to overrule the FCC using the Congressional Review Act (CRA). We only need one more vote in the Senate to win. Write or call your Senators or Representatives. You can also text BATTLE to 384-387 to get more information on how to write to your reps. You can do this, Tumblr.
Join us and dozens of your other favorite companies like Etsy, Vimeo, Reddit, and GitHub to raise awareness with the Red Alert campaign being run by Battle for the Net. Just add this small widget to your Tumblr to let your followers know how they can contact their reps. It’s as easy as copying and pasting the small line of code right into the customize theme page on the web.
This is important. This matters. It’s up to you to help.

Tips on how to grocery shop on a low budget
Everyone goes through a period where money is tight and it’s hard to buy food with your budget. Here are a few tips I’ve learned for grocery shopping and they work out fairly well for me. They may not help entirely but its a start.
Pre-Shopping To Do List
Make A List. A lot of times people feel like it may be a bit too much but it helps to plan out what you need specifically to avoided picking up items that you don’t need in the store. Try to plan out meals and shop according to the ingredients needed for that meal. EX: If you’re going to make spaghetti, write down the things you’d need for that meal.
Eat BEFORE You Go To The Grocery Store. This is the oldest tip in the book because it WORKS. If you go to the store hungry, you’ll pick up any and everything which results in going over budget. Even if it’s just a sandwich or a bowl of cereal, eat before you go. Your stomach is bigger than your eyes and your budget.
If You Have Access To Coupons Use Them. There is a reason why they made a whole television show dedicated to extreme couponers, because those people essentially bought a house full of groceries for next to nothing. You don’t have to be extreme and spend every minute couponing but you can use them for your benefit. You can save the coupons from the newspapers and they even have online coupons to save time and paper.
Shopping
Now that you’re in the grocery store it’s time to pull out all the stops to save a penny
When shopping for produce pay attention to what you’re putting in your cart. Typically the stores sell produce by the pound. Do not be afraid to sift through the fruits and vegetables to find not only a fresh product but a product that fits your budget per pound. You can utilize the scales to weigh your items and do not hesitate to put a few back if the weight goes over your per pound price. I’ve taken a single banana off of a bunch because it went over my budget.
When shopping for meats, again, pay attention to what you’re putting in your cart. We tend to just pick up the first package of meat we see not realizing that it’s pricey. Again do not be afraid to sift through the meats to find one that’s affordable. People have looked a me like I was crazy because I went through the whole section of ground beef trying to find one that was cheaper. Say for instance you see a pack of ground beef for $6.75, I can promise that there is another pack in there for $6.74. It may only be a small difference but every penny counts.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with generic brand items. There is really no difference between Fruit Loops and Tootie Fruities. Actually there is a difference. Fruit Loops typically sell for $3.98 (according to Wal Mart) while Tootie Fruities sell for $2.29. That’s a whole $1.69 more for a logo. If you’re on a budget do not be ashamed to go generic.
If you see buy 2 for $5 or any variation of that, go for it! There’s really no explanation needed for this one. Buying in bulk can prove to be useful and if a product is usually $3 for one and they’re offering to buy 2 for $5, you’re saving, even if it’s just a few cents.
Sign up for your local grocery store’s reward program. It’s usually free to join and with that members card you’ll be privy to deals and sales that the grocery store has to offer. Some grocery stores even have a reward where if you accumulate x amount of points you can redeem an item for half off or for free. Some even send you free coupons for hoildays and birthdays. Jump on that opportunity to save.
If you’re on an extremely tight budget, grab a shopping basket rather than a shopping cart. It sounds crazy but the logic behind it is simple. If you have a smaller cart to hold your items in, you’re sort of limiting yourself to how much you can cary which in turn, limits how much you buy.
Hopefully these pointers help out for those of us who have those hard times. I don’t know every trick so feel free to add more if you know of any.
Happy Shopping!
