a Journey Towards News Writing Course

A journey starts in the early 7th semester of my college and finally i reached at the end of the semester through my effort to achieve my degrees in Muhammadiyah University of Tangerang majoring the English Language Department. By the way my name is Andhio Alif Putra Harsanta, i was born in Tangerang on January 14th, 1997 surrounded by the great middle - classes family.

Talking about my news writing interest, I have some curiosity about what actually happen around the world. I actually know that many things and phenomena occur around the globe, such as politics, technology, entertainment, sports and environmental. My news writing interest is more inclined to the entertainment and technology, such as films, music, and celebrity. Technology is equally interesting to me, especially in the aspect of transportations such as cars and motorcycles.

By joining this course, all of my insight about the world can exactly channelized because this course make me able to share the news based my interest and bring them to my fellow class - mates and also it make me able to share my insight about what was happen around the world. Because we know, that journalism is the eye of the world. So the more we involved in the world of journalism, the more deeper our knowledge of the world will be.

During the course, many activities was done in groups. Such involved together with classmates in composing a news article, news analysis and gathering news. This kind of activities is encouraging me because it's about breakdown or shared our thoughts and insight about the latest phenomena or issues that happen around us. I'm so excited about this because during the teamwork, me and my classmates are professionally cooperate in order to put together our various insight into a single conclusion. We also did some outdoor -commute in order to gather the news sources right before we starts to composing a news article. I think it was pretty fun and exciting.

My reflective insight will probably about there is some structure or ethics towards the news writing. It's about we can't just write the news article about what is happening around the world, there is a writing structure or ethics which was authorized by the AP (Association Press). So, no matter how many of our insight through the news that we gather from the source, we can't just shared it in perfunctory manner, there is an ethic and structure to write and share our news article. I completely got those knowledge right in this courses and I'm so grateful can joining this courses and mentored by my greatest lecture Mrs. Dwi Sloria Suharti, M.Pd.

A strike on a Gaza hospital on October 18th killed hundreds of Palestinians, deepening tensions in the Middle East and raising the stakes for U.S. President Joe Biden as he flies to Israel on Wednesday to signal support for its war against Hamas. The blast at Al-Ahli al-Arabi hospital killed between 300 and 500 people, according to health ministry sources and a civil defence chief in Gaza. Palestinian officials said an Israel air strike hit the hospital, while Israel blamed the blast on a failed rocket launch by the Palestinian Hamas group, which denied responsibility. This tragedy occurred as result of the long-running conflict between Israel and Palestinian Hamas. This began with the Palestinian Hamas launching a missile attack on the southern part of Israel on Saturday October 7th 2023.

This war was marked by mutual attacks using missiles between Israel and Palestinian Hamas which resulted in casualties among both parties, military personnel's and civilians. The governments of both parties issued the following statements. "The entire world should know: It was barbaric terrorists in Gaza that attacked the hospital in Gaza, and not the IDF," Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said and the day after, Daoud Shehab, a spokesman for Palestinian Hamas was then followed by a statement as follows: "This is a lie and fabrication, it is completely incorrect. The occupation is trying to cover for the horrifying crime and massacre they committed against civilians".

RICE FIELDS DRIED UP INCLUDED HARVEST FAILURE

EFFECTS OF LONG TIME DROUGHT

KOTA TANGERANG, BANTEN – Several hectares of rice fields belonging to farmers in Pinang sub – district, Tangerang City experienced drought accompanied by crop failure due to the long – time summer season that has occurred in almost all regions in Indonesia recently.

Based on the results of our observations, we met with Mr. Ahmad Faiq, who is one of several farmers affected by the drought which resulted in crop failure due to the dryness of rice fields. This farmer from Pinang sub – district, Tangerang city lost millions of rupiah.

Mr. Ahmad added that this phenomenon was the result of the lack of rainfall in the past few months, in fact there was almost no rain. This has a worst impact on agricultural areas, especially on rice fields, as a result, Mr. Ahmad Faiq's rice fields do not have enough water content or even none.

"During the long dry season, I was forced to stay at home a lot and not work on the rice fields due to this long dry season," said Ahmad, when we conducted an interview on Wednesday (25/10). Ahmad then stated that he and several fellow farmers would feel confused if a long drought like this struck, because the rice fields in this region are categorized as the rain – fed rice field category without any irrigation flow. 

Banten Province is one of many regions in Indonesia that was affected by drought. Many agricultural areas, especially rice fields that use a rain – fed system, will be greatly affected due to the long dry season in the past few months.

The headline of the news is about a fire incident that burned down a warehouse in Bumi Indah Residence, Pasar Kemis sub-district, Tangerang Regency.

Opening Paragraph

A fire burned down a warehouse in the Bumi Indah residential area which it's a densely populated area on Monday, April 15th, 2023 around 23.00 local time.

Body Paragraph

The initial cause of the fire is currently unknown. When the fire broke out, the owner of the warehouse, Arman (44), saw the fire and it quickly grew because the contents of the warehouse is a flammable materials. Arman immediately contacted the Firefighters Call Center. The owner with the residents tried to extinguish the fire using fire extinguishers but it didn't work and the fire are continuously huge.

Firefighters who received the report immediately tried to extinguish it as quickly as possible when they arrived at the crime scene (TKP). The efforts in extinguish the fire are involves two of firefighters agencies from the district and city, then it also mobilize until five firefighter vehicle.

There was no victims reported in this fire incident. Some material loss has not been estimated and the cause of the fire is being investigated by the Tangerang Police Inavis Division.

Summary

Fire incidents that often occur in residential areas are very dangerous. Apart from the risk of material loss, there is also a risk of loss of life. Therefore, the citizens are expected to increase the awareness towards the items that have potential to easily ignite a source of fire.
