Rationale
For our take on the 30th anniversary of Bats Theatre we decided to create a season based on the ideas of Kotahitanga. Kotahitanga is about unity and in our context the uniting of nature with humanity. We found a real undertone and sense of a need for unity in an Aotearoa context through Warren Maxwell’s songs. We aimed to project these feelings and mood through our trans media campaign. We used a film as a base for our motion graphic as we felt this would really project the mood we were targeting towards and would help other New Zealanders to relate to the environment, placing themselves into a similar situation. We used typography as a focus in our animation to really lead the audience through a story, leaving them intrigued and wanting more. The moving lines we hoped would link to a sense of nature and identity moving, symbols of tree rings, finger prints and contour lines are all repetitive symbols we have tried to include throughout our campaign to effectively link these ideas.
