OJT Stories: Brigada News FM
I took my internship at 104.7 Brigada News FM National-Southern Tagalog located 5th Floor Jacinta Building 2, 1840 EDSA, Brgy. Guadalupe Nuevo, Makati City. Initially I planned to take my training at Yes FM Manila, my father supporting my decision for the reason that it was near my residence. However, the radio station ran out of slots so I looked for another company, and coincidentally my friend Nesha recommended me Brigada News FM.
Tumblr media
Don’t get me wrong. I didn’t regret working for Brigada nor feel like there’s no more option. In fact, I enjoyed the company of the staff as they treated everyone like a family enough for me to never really mind if I would always get home late at night after struggling with traffic jam.
Among the things I enjoyed were writing lyrics for a station jingle, planning and preparing for Christmas party from literally 7:00am until 12:00am on some days, make scripted spiels for advertisements, and record Christmas advisories. However, the most nerve-racking one for me was to go live on-air every Saturday where I used to stutter a lot at first, but thanks to our dear tatays (what we call our bosses as) who helped us a lot in improving our public speaking skills, I got better.
As we approached our last days of internship, we couldn’t contain our happiness, having formed intimate bonds and shared fun memories with our supervisors. I also would not forget those listeners who spent time texting us, expressing their appreciation and missing of our voices and personalities. For these, I couldn’t help but to be emotional.
Even after the course, we spent some time helping Ma’am Agimat, one of our supervisors, write her news articles. Meanwhile, Sir Glenn offered us a helpful advice to start with a small company first before venturing into the great ones so as to learn and experience things step by step and have a sense of readiness for every bigger challenge.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now that it’s my turn to give my valuable advice for the current interns as well for the next. I would suggest you observe a lot because learning comes from observation. But don’t forget to enjoy every moment of the ride. And lastly, it’s not what you get from the company that matters but what you contribute for them as much. As one favorite cliché goes, “It’s better to give than to receive.”

#IMPROV2016: SAS Conducts a Term-Ender Party
By Monette Lalican
Tumblr media
Improv 2016 was the first term-ender party held in the Philippine Women’s University. The event was mainly attended by the students from the School of Arts and Sciences which include the departments of Communication Arts, Psychology, Environmental Science, and Information Technology. Originally, the event was planned as an acquaintance and welcoming party for the IT Department in SAS. However, the said project grew larger along its development so that SAS decided open it university wide.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The night was filled with games, a fashion show presenting the handiwork of the students on their denims, and performances of PWU students and a local band outside the university.  Improv, derived from the word improvement, encouraged the students to improvise their denim outfits. This idea brought out the inner creativity of the attendees. Some made their own ripped jeans and decorated their denim jackets, pairing them with white.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Filled with various games and musical performances from selected PWU students and an invited band enhances the program, the event was made possible by the Communication Arts Society in spite of all the challenges the officers encountered such as time constraint, confirmation of student attendance, recruitment of performers, seeking of sponsors, and reservation of venue and equipment among others, to the extent that even during the last few hours they were on a hurry finalizing things.
Tumblr media
The production team was consisted of Communication Arts students who were assigned in taking photographs, hosting, managing the social media and assisting and serving the attendees.  At the end of the day, the efforts and hard work were all paid off as the night ended with a blast, leaving everyone with a smile of joy and satisfaction.

My Teacher, My Parent: CA Students Pay Tribute to Their Second Parents
By Angeline Ursua
Not all heroes wear capes. Sometimes, they are the ones who inspire us to learn and strive harder. A one-day program was held last October 4, 2016 for the professors of PWU as a payback time for their sacrifices and to give back the love they truly deserve. The Communication Arts Society is particularly thankful for having professors who provide them knowledge and supervision in their journey in college life.
Here are a few professors that CA regards as their second parents:
Tumblr media
Jesus Wyco of the SAS Department has been serving in the university for many years. Despite his old age, Prof. Wyco manages to arrive in school all the way from Pampanga and will still have time to work on his lesson plan after a long tiring day. His love for undying love to educate gives him the strength to continue in this profession, often saying that seeing his students becoming successful makes him the happiest.
Raymond Tribdino, an Advertising and PR professor, encourages his students to enjoy while learning. His students are always free to express their ideas and opinions in his "awesome class". Even if often scolded by a professor in the room next to his class because of noise, Prof. Tribdino firmly believes that the disruption his class creates is an effective learning method.
Raymond Dimayuga is known for his quirky personality. His punch lines and jokes bring happiness to students. When discussing important matters, though, Prof. Dimayuga does his best to share his learnings about different aspects in films. Aside from that, he is also a mentor of "Teatro Katipunero", the university's official theatre guild, known for creating theatre plays with in-depth stories.
Melvin Espineda, who is currently taking up his doctorate class in UP, doesn’t let his busy schedule hinder him from fulfilling his responsibilities as a professor. Coming from the media industry, he also helps his students learn more about the field through educational trips in well known TV studios and radio companies. While also the adviser of Patriots Radio, Prof. Espineda always exerts his full effort to help his students develop and improve as an individual.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Inspired by the witty, humorous, meaningful and insightful messages of Mr. Obet Cabrillas and Mr. Larry San Pedro, as well as the heartfelt testimonies of the students presented in the tribute video, the Communication Arts students cannot help but become emotional as they approach the professors on their tables, giving them their flowers and tokens, to the extent of even crying while hugging them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Teachers are the heroes who sacrifice their time and effort for the benefit of others. Every successful person has had a great mentor. Without these loving and patient professors, no student could have made his way to achieving his goals in life.

Savariz Spearheads CA’s Newest Org
By Felice Occeno
The PWU Communication Arts Society comes up with its newest organization–Litratikula. A play of words between “litrato” for pictures signifying photography and “pelikula” for film, it is the very first film and photography organization ever established in the department by Maria Ferlyn Savariz, president of the said org.
Tumblr media
According to Savariz, it has been years ago since students proposed to have a club like this but only now is it being materialized, and for this she is happy that her team has finally come up with this brave decision more so that there are a lot of interested applicants from different batches of the Communication Arts Society.
Primarily catering Communication Arts students, the organization’s aim is to contribute into Filipino indie films as well as to widen members’ understanding of and develop their skills in photography and filmmaking.
However, Savariz adds that one of the major challenges Litratikula is currently facing is the lack of funds and equipment. To somehow alleviate this, the officers agree to regulate monthly organizational fees and conduct fundraising activities so as to establish their independence first as they are pioneering this newest organization of the department.
