When two black men were arrested at Starbucks for no reason, so many in our communities rallying around them to right the wrong that was done to them. Arresting black people for simply existing in a space is a form of institutional racism. But that same energy for protesting against police brutality towards black women is NOT there. Chikesia Clemons is a young black women who was brutally arrested in a Waffle House because she refused to pay 0.50 cents for cutlery. She was tackled to ground with her breasts exposed by three white male officers who threatened to break her arm. Her story has not gone viral, she had no white bystanders speak up for her, and is not getting enough vocal support from black leaders. Where are the white feminists who support #metoo? Where are all the black male celebrities who vowed to use the platform and boycott Starbucks? The media silence on her brutal sexual assault by law enforcement speaks volumes to how the suffering of black women is not seen as a priority. Black women are victims of police brutality too and we need justice.
It’s so refreshing seeing a black mother be so open and nonjudgemental towards her daughter especially when expressing her feelings. That’s the kind of mother I aspire to be. #BlackFamily #BlackLove
