I've been trying to learn 한글 since forever and it scares me every time i make progress, thus I've been stuck and i don't know how to approach it to make it more friendly and gun to learn. Any tips or suggestions would really help! Thanks ♡
Hi!
I have a old post that has a couple different resources for learning Hangul. Check those out and see if any work for you. There are videos, written lessons, etc... Personally I think videos are a great way to learn. If you need any additional help I’m happy to provide different resources and advice!

How do you study Korean vocabulary? 💜 I use words in sentences and learn in context but it’s still hard for me to remember them!
Hi!
One of my favorite ways is studying with Quizlet. There are a few ways you can study your set of vocabulary words there, so you can figure out which method works best for you. Don’t put too much vocabulary into your list. Try studying small amounts at a time, then create a new list once you’ve learned everything from the first list. You can also make a larger list that will have all of the words you’ve learned. Make sure to re-study what you’ve learned too. It’s important to refresh your memory!
When I was first learning Korean I liked to put sticky notes on things and write what the item was called in Korean. For example, on a book I would put a sticky note saying “책.”
I like to translate songs, shows, podcasts, etc... You can refresh your memory on words you already know and learn new words too. You’ll also be able to learn the context in which certain phrasing or words are used.
Those are just a few examples. There are so many different ways to study vocabulary and everyone has a method that works better for them, so try out different things and see what helps vocabulary stick with you!

Do you have any tips on getting some of the pronounciations right? I have a Southern accent and it keeps complicating things.
Hi!
Are there any words or letters you have trouble pronouncing or just in general? If it is something specific let me know and I’ll try my best to help!
Some tips for practicing pronunciation:
Simplest answer: practice and time! It is hard to perfect pronunciation at first, especially when there are sounds you don’t have in your native language. Keep practicing and over time you will notice how much more natural you sound!
Read/say something while recording yourself, then play it back and listen. I like to do this with TV shows etc so I can compare how I sound. By doing this you will be able to hear what you might be pronouncing wrong.
There is an app called HiNative you could try also. If you want opinions of your pronunciation, upload a voice memo and get feedback from native speakers. They will usually give you advice if something sounds off too.
Listen to real people (native speakers specifically) and try to mimic how they sound. If you learn pronunciation of a word from “robots” (translation apps etc), it will likely sound unnatural. Same thing goes for (most) people who learned Korean as a second language. The majority of them will probably have somewhat of an accent when speaking Korean.
Realize that it is okay to have an accent while speaking Korean (or any other language)! Although we all want to sound like native speakers it can be hard to stop our accents from affecting how we sound. Many people have spoke a language for years and still have at least somewhat of an accent.
I hope this was helpful! Honestly my best advice is just to keep practicing!

Please help! I’m trying to learn Hangul and tried to spell out saranghae. So I sounded everything out and ended with 사란해 (literally saranghae) but when I googled it was actually 사랑해. I’m confused because saranghae has the sound ‘n’ on it which is ㄴ but it’s not used in saranghae? I hope u get what i mean 😔
Hi!
I know what you mean. You had a great guess with the spelling! In 사랑해, the “n” sound comes from ㅇ which is the equalivent to “ng.”

hello ~ 안녕하세요 I was wondering what topik is, or what topik testing is? my professor sent an email mentioning taking it and I wondered what it was..
안녕하세요!
TOPIK is the Test of Proficiency in Korean. You can use the test results to help get into Korean universities, obtaining permanent residency in Korea, etc... You can also just take it to see which level of Korean you are.
Here is a website which explains the uses of the test, has testing dates and locations, etc...

I would trust a native speaker more than I would me if I were you, but I thought I would send something in just in case! 'Recursos para estudiar Coreano en Español' is 'Resources to study Korean in Spanish'
Ah, I meant to say 'recursos por estudiar coreano en español', not with para. Just goes to show that you should trust someone else if you get something. So sorry!
Hi!
Thanks for sending this in! I didn’t see this beforehand and ended up using “Material en español para aprender coreano.” Hopefully that sounds right!
