I think he gets that, that if he didn't accept it he would be dead and someone else would have accepted the project but I think it's him Wondering that maybe if he didn't accept it that things would be way different.

And on the note of him pushing himself I dooo think he does that often a lot. He has a lot to make up for, he can put all he's been given to use, it won't make up for what he's done/made to do but it's something. And I think he does a lot because maybe he's scared of being bored, if he lets himself even think something is boring it makes him panic. Because really how can you go through all that and not overthink who you are? What you are? Does he not sometimes wake up and stare at himself and be so confused on who looks back? Does he catch sight of his red eye and freeze up? I think it's hard for him to really say who he is now, he's Hajime, but he's not sure how, what Hajime he is anymore, basically. Also on this, I think he gets a lot of phantom pains from the surgeries and such, he overworks, he's in pain, it's a loop. uuhggh I think about this a lot
