Here’s my submission for @whatpumpkin‘s comic contest!
I wanted to combine Homestuck and Hiveswap a little bit with this one. This panel sort of started the ball rolling and I was thinking about babysitter Roxy’s backstory and read a bunch of zodiac constellation myths on wikipedia and things got a little intense? So enjoy I guess.
It’s almost 3 am. I don’t have much to say for myself. I’ve sacrificed a lot of sleep for this thing so I figure I should post it.
I’m gunna go sleep now.
Edit - Okay so for some reason at 3 am I didn’t realize I could put all the panels in one post like this. So they’re all here now. Whoops. If you still want to read it on imgur you can here.

Ok so I feel like Bayverse Optimus Prime and TF: P Optimus Prime are pretty much opposites of each other, but in a really good way.
After the third Bay movie I spent quite awhile raging about how he characterized Optimus and the way the movie ended with Prime pretty much getting angry and killing everyone. But I’ve been thinking about it a lot, especially after watching Predacons Rising, and now I feel like both Primes could be accurate.
The Optimus in any TF universe has endured an astounding amount of pain and loss, especially so in Bayverse and TFP, and perhaps the different characterizations are just two of the more extreme beings he could have become.
Bayverse Optimus feels very frustrated to me. He still possesses the same sense of honor and duty to sentient life as every other Optimus, but he’s reached a breaking point where the physical and emotional load have become too much. Something has to give-and he’s trying to internalize it- but eons of hard leadership, betrayal, and loss are taking their toll. He’s doing everything he can to hold it in, but there’s a certain darkness seeping through the cracks. He’s angry, and has every right to be.
There’s a point for everyone where enough is enough, and Optimus has reached that point. A sense of utter helplessness combined with overwhelming responsibility is forcing him to bend. Bayverse Optimus is trying fruitlessly to work through those emotions, teetering on an emotional precipice where he’s losing his grasp on himself in his own battle to remain himself.
And Transformers: Prime Optimus has tipped in the other direction.
TFP Optimus has reached his breaking point, and allowed it to consume him rather than fight it. He is, essentially, burnt out. While still obviously capable of emotion and empathetic thoughts/actions, he usually seems to follow a strict set of guidelines he has established for himself. “If Megatron does this, do this. If he threatens sentient life, do that. If the humans are angry, placate them. The survival of this is ultimately more important than the survival of that, is more important than that, is more important than that.” There are certain phrases or actions he repeats often enough to be entirely predictable, and speaks in a way that resembles an actor quoting from a script. He has known war for so long that it has become nearly his entire existence, and he’s tired. There were countless other decisions he could have made at the end of Predacons rising rather than to merge the Allspark with the matrix/his own spark, but he didn’t do any of them. He knew that the war would be, essentially, at an end once the Allspark was returned, and that end was literally all he was living for. When he saw the opportunity to restore his world and end it all, he took it without hesitation. As he said, “My quest must be completed,” and that was all there was for him.
Optimus has always come across as an extremely tragic character to me, and almost nothing saddens me more than watching what the Cybertronian wars do to him.
Gonna shut up now before I start crying about it.
