TIME TRAVEL THEORIES
*had the most fun researching and explaining this part of the project*
What is time To understand time travel, we must understand time. Albert Einstein showed that time is an illusion; it is relative which means it can vary for different observers depending on your speed through space. According to Einstein, time is an alternative fourth dimension and space is a described as a three-dimensional area with coordinates such as length, width and height. However, time is able to provide a fourth coordinate, direction. Einstein’s special relativity says that time slows down or speeds up depending on how fast you move relative to something else. With attention to both theories a fourth dimensional fabric called space- time can be pictured.
Black Holes Many speculate that going through a black hole or artificially creating this condition could lead to time traveling. A black hole is an area where the force of gravity is so strong that not even light can escape (light being the fastest thing known to man). If a spaceship were to orbit the black hole they would be experiencing just half the time of everyone back on earth. If there were circling the hole for 5 years when they got home, everyone on earth would have aged 10 years, since there are travelling slower through time thus experiencing time travel when returning to Earth.
Travelling back in time According to Stephen Hawking the laws of physics would prevent any time travel to the past. “It seems there is a chronology protection agency, which prevents the appearance of closed time like curves and so makes the universe safe for historians,” he wrote. If people could travel to the past there would be clashes with Einstein’s general relatively theory. So how did Dr. Adler manage to do it
Wormholes Dr. Adler was able to break the laws of physics and time travel to the past due since he used a wormhole. A wormhole is a tunnel through space that connects two distant places. If one end of the tunnel is sped up to near the speed of light, it experiences time differently to the other end. By travelling through the tunnel, you could move back and forth to the future. Obviously there were some complications along the way which is why they’re stuck in this glitch world. Adler believes they are simply stuck inside the wormhole, unable to move forward or backward which is why they’re getting the glitch.
Brief explanation of the outpost
Inside his office Dr. Ezra Adler has a secret bunker where he stores his time machine. His office is located in the lounge area of the technology institute but his bunker is safe as it can only be accessed through his office

TIMELINE
2050 Aecriocia is thriving. The developments over the last few years have enabled them to have the most up to date hospitals, educational institutes and research facilities.
2100 As the years go, the gap in the wealth of people becomes much more prominent. Protests break out in several different regions of Aecriocia.
2151 As conditions get worse due to the divide, the top 1% decides they need to great a physical barrier between the two classes or they fear rebellion and destructing of everything they have accomplished. They contact Dr. Adler, one of the leading developers of technology in Aecriocia.
2160 Dr. Adler derives a plan to move the exiting structures into the sky by using anti gravity theories.
2170 The elitists have adapted to life above the skies well. They continue to thrive. As for the people still on the ground, they are suffering due to lack of resources.
2171 Dr Adler quickly realizes that the people on the ground are suffering and what a huge mistake he’s made. He starts experimenting with time travel and attempting to make his own machine to prevent himself from ever doing this.
2180 He successfully built the time machine and sets the it to go back to the day the plan was suggested. However there is some sort of malfunction which creates a glitch in the time space continuum.
*GLITCH IN TIME OCCURS*
1990 The rise of mom jeans, mood rings and hip hop.
1970 The era famous for bell bottoms, rise of disco, cultural change and technological innovation.
1950 Poodle skirts, funky diners and roller skates, bring it on.
1980 Some pretty rocking bands.

TEXT FROM PAMPHLET (1)
Just realized it would be very hard to read the text off the pdf i submitted so i thought i would post the text here
Aecriocia (HISTORY)
All was going well in aecriocia until recently there seemed to be a visible divide in Aecriocia in terms of classes of people. Rebellions start, food is short, accomplishments are getting destroyed. The elitists wanted a divide and decided to conquer the skies with the help of DR. Ezra Adler.
Dr. Adler was successful in bringing the city to the skies. everyone thought the city was for all citizens but elitists took over. The people on the ground are struggling without key resources but the elitist paid no attention to this.
Dr Ezra Adler realizes his mistakes and is desperately trying to find a solution. He decides on time travel to the past to prevent this mistake. He must be careful because if anyone found out what he was attempting he would be severely punished. He built a time machine out of a DeLorean which he keeps hidden in a secret bunker underneath his office. Adler believes he has the perfect opportunity through a wormhole. however something went terribly wrong. It seems as if the DeLorean is stuck in the wormhole causing the entire nation of Aecriocia to experience a glitching effect. There are somehow in different parts of time simultaneously. They are in a state of transtemporal time. Dr Adler is the only one who knows what is going on and is responsible for fixing it as the others are in state of a glitch. He himself is facing some of it but assumed he has safe from it as he was in the DeLorean.

upgradeeeeeeeeee
my model went though a little bit of a glow up and im happy with it :) I decided to define my forms more to enhance my narrative

Noticed most of city looked very plain so I decided to give the structures some depth. Going to extrude these in Rhino now and place them around the “ring” i have that connects the whole city

Alternative Submission
For my final model I thought it would be best to showcase both my built world and the terrain I created. The context of the terrain is very important as it relates to my narrative of the floating city.
As discussed in previous posts, Ive decided to fabricate my model by laser cutting and 3D printing with a few hand modeled elements.

Green = Laser Cut
Pink = 3D print 1
Blue = 3D print 2
Yellow = hand
LASER CUTTING

I decided it would make most sense to laser cut my topography as it is essentially repeated even forms. I made a proper illustrator file with the correct dimensions.
3D PRINTING

Both my built city and my outpost would have to be 3D printed. The reason I have them separate is because there is too much for an overhand with the tubes that connect the outpost with the rest of the city. I would have liked to hand make some aspects of my outpost but it would be very hand considering all the organic shapes/forms ive created. The files both have all closed loops and are ready to go for 3D printing.
HAND

I would then use small dowels or toothpicks to create the pillars of the city. These columns are what semi supports the city. My entire narrative has this focus on the floating city which uses anti gravity to stay afloat. It will be further emphasized and explained in the final manual.
OUTPOST
The outpost is an important part of my story but due to scale it cannot be seen very well in the model. The goal is to create an exploded axonometric of the outpost in Illustrator. This will help to define each part and how they all work together.The image attached is a rough precedent as it has the different parts on the right hand side.

RENDERING
Unfortunately I dont have VRAY on my computer and am unable to download the free 30 day trial. I experimented rendering using the render tools in Rhino but my lack of experience led to some poor renders. I plan to explore some of the free rendering software mentioned in the brief ( Blender , Pixar Renderman Kerkythea). I might also have to go for a line work only effect with college editing techniques.

TASK 8
Massing for outpost
Overall I have my general idea for my outpost but still have a lot more details to add. Its a work in progress!

TASK 7
25 years render
100 years render
I used a collage technique to enhance my renders to show my narrative. Went with a little extreme but I wanted these to be the more artistic pieces of my project that focus on narrative. In my final I might use this style for one drawing but the rest will be of a more muted tone focusing on the model and what Ive built in Rhino

TASK 6
Final V-Ray renders and settings
Played with the idea of materiality for my narrative.
The houses on the ground that are meant for the “creatures” are made from pallet wood and and very broken. This enhances the idea of them not having the same luxuries as the “people of the sky”. They live in poor conditions which is why they are trying to take over the sky city.
The gateway was constructed from granite and porcelain. This was done to juxtapose the pallet wood used on the ground. It is severally broken due to the people of the sky using cranes to lift it into their space from the ground when they decided to relocate. The gateways are placed on the bridges of the model and show the entrance to an important space.
Overall getting more comfortable with V-Ray, still have a lot more to learn but I’m getting there (hopefully)!

TASK 6 PROGRESS
The main way I created my ruins was through a simple extrude and split method.
I first drew the cut I wanted to create in the front view and then extrude it so it passes through my ruin. I would then perform a simple Boolean split (which im much more comfortable with now) command. I repeated this process several times to achieve my desired result.

TASK 6 PROGRESS
Both Elevations fully extruded
The strategy I used for my ruins was to create the whole building first and then create my ruins. I know only extruding the parts that I wanted would have saved me some time but this way allowed for me to experiment with different cuts/ ruin styles etc.
