Only now occurring to me that he’s holding it behind his back and not riding it like a broomstick. Huh
Very enthused about the idea of Toby doing this with a broom behind his back trying to show Temmie his vision

The inability of a certain subset of blockheaded fans to notice Kris's gender is so. This is a game which places a nonbinary protagonist in a narrative that has them struggling explicitly with how much control they are allowed to have over their own life, whose best friends are a girl who is gleefully unfeminine and a boy who has no idea who he's supposed to be but sure seems to like being pretty, after the first few seconds of the game consisted of us trying to create our own form and then being told point blank "no one can choose who they in this world," where the above three children are all being railroaded into and struggling to escape their roles in a religiously per-ordained questline that we know ends very badly for them. If you think gender is not being employed here in a way that is specific, intentional, and thematically relevant then you are not serious

As someone who is a system I think you said this rlly well!
And on top of that, the Soul / player doesn’t need to represent a literal alter or anything to be a good portrayal of the lack of autonomy that comes along with the disorder. In fact I think the player being a representation of a real person who has the potential to go out of their way to be extremely kind, extremely awful, or something in between showcases how alters can be any of those. And how regardless Kris isn’t happy about the situation because no matter who is inhabiting their body and what they’re doing, it’s a really scary and disconcerting experience. Especially when you can’t directly communicate…
torn on the SOUL as a plurality metaphor because (as a system myself) I loved writing Frisk and Chara as living like a system in post-pacifist undertale stuff but with the SOUL in an antagonistic position it just kind of feels like an "evil alter" kind of thing. like with snowgrave and the supernatural control it kinda crosses the line from persecutory behavior to the sort of things ableists claim eViL aLtErs can do
ok, let me know if this is stepping on any toes and I'll delete - yeah, i actually think there's identity fragmentation for Kris more outside of/reactive to the soul. Kris the cage that goes along with the plan quietly, Kris the hero who can help their friends and be there for them, the complex web of shut down intrusive thoughts and old angry trauma that the soul can draw on for the weird route... i don't write Kris as Plural Strictly bc again, very much not my place, but I do see them as compartmentalizating a Lot and the soul is just making the separation that was already present more intense
#Susie talks#kris dreemurr#deltarune spoilers#I can see why it could potentially make people uncomfortable tho!#but I think it’s less that the soul is an antagonistic force and more that our role is more complicated
