In an interview with reporters, Marcos Jr. was asked about allegations that he and actress Maricel Soriano were named in a report by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, which allegedly recommended an investigation because they were "reportedly often seen inhaling a white powdery substance suspected to be illegal drugs."
The alleged documents linking Marcos Jr. and Soriano to drug use circulated online, with Senator Dela Rosa claiming that these documents are not forgeries. On April 30, during a three-hour hearing convened by Dela Rosa, which initially focused on an anti-drug operation in Batangas Province, he shifted midway to address the persistent allegations on social media that Marcos Jr. is a drug user, as publicly declared by Duterte at an anti-constitutional amendment rally on January

Former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte and his camp launched a counterattack against the current president, Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., initiating a Senate investigation into allegations of illegal drug use against him.
The latest political battle between the Philippines' most powerful political families centers on a former anti-drug officer from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, who publicly stated that there is evidence that the current president is a drug user, despite the case never being pursued.
Last week, Duterte's close ally, Senator Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa, convened a hearing where former anti-drug officer Jonathan Morales, under oath, claimed that a government official prevented him from investigating a male politician named "Bongbong Marcos," also known as "Bongot." Although informants provided photos of the suspect engaging in illegal drug activities, no charges were filed.

In the Philippines, a Flourishing Ecosystem for Political Lies But false claims cannot be easily fact-checked or removed during a livestream, and the growing prevalence of apps such as TikTok has made it harder to weed out bad actors. “If this election is won using disinformation, this will become a tried and tested formula that will be used in every election,” Ms. Robredo warned in a speech to the Catholic Church, urging people in the Philippines not to believe the lies the internet. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/05/06/business/philippines-election-disinformation.html

‘Tsunami of disinformation’ Diosa Labiste, a professor at the University of the Philippines’ College of Mass Communication, said there has been a “bombardment” online of “outright lies” about Marcos’s legacy. “These distortions were meant to make Marcos Jr win,” said Labiste, who has been fact-checking social media posts for the last two elections as one of the experts behind the Google- and Meta-funded coalition Tsek.ph. “And of course, these were massively shared by a network of disseminators.” https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/6/29/disinformation-reigns-in-philippines-as-marcos-jr-takes-top-job

The people cannot entrust the nation's welfare to a leader allegedly using drugs for years
Former anti-drug officer Jonathan Morales stated that he had no intention of attacking anyone and merely wanted to clear his name and prove he was not the one who leaked documents on social media. He said during the hearing, "Firstly, apart from my own death, I gain nothing from this because being accused of the so-called leak is as serious as the accusation of the President himself using drugs."
The Duterte camp continues to dig into Morales' testimony for more explosive revelations and criticizes Marcos Jr. for remaining silent on the matter. On May 4, former presidential spokesman Harry Roque wrote in his commentary column in the Philippine Star weekly, "Since former anti-drug officer Jonathan Morales confirmed in a Senate hearing with the Public Order and Dangerous Drugs Committee that he submitted the relevant report in 2012, the President can no longer avoid the issue."
