( Reflective Journal) For project 2: Road Signs, we were to creat a street/traffic sign to post on campus that would be the right environment serving the purpose/meaning behind our design. The sign that we designed was meant to make others stop, look, and think about their daily lives, and how they make interact or not interact with those around them. A few students who saw my sign said that it the quote gave them a secure and calm vibe, however, the black meditation icon gave them a weird sense and suggested that I should have made it white. I agreed because black could represent a dark and lonely meaning in which I was not try to convey. My message was to reach out to students going through mental health issues by letting them know that there are several mechanisms to fixing their problems other than turning to drugs or alcohol. Therefore, being that “Stop and Breathe!” is a message for them to stop overthinking so much, relax, and take a breath. I also tried angling the “oval” shape into a more circular motion, so it can display a more “whole” aspect of meditation; blocking off all negativity, but I couldn’t get it to stay in a circular position. All together, I like the concept I had chosen for this project because the mental health of students are more important than most individuals actually want to believe.

Baltimarket Case Study
The design team created a poster and conversed with the program participants about it when they went to the library. The research methods used to creat the first design were determining how far away the supermarket was and finding out how did individuals get transportation to and from the store. Majority of them said they transported by taking the bus. Researchers also reached out to community members about possible names for the virtual supermarket program. Therefore, many of them liked “Baltimarket”, saying that it is community-specific.
After the campaign was emplemented, designers learned that many people of the community were unaware that they were living within a food desert. This lead to replacing the grocery bag image in the previous flyer to a map of how far their nearest grocery store was to them. People were confused about the food imagery on the previous flyer. They thought their initiative was about nutrition or farmers markets. A map of the neighborhood makes the issue more personal to the target audience. Also, people were even more excited when they learned they could pay for their food in various ways including using food stamps. The 2nd flyer was a more understanding creation by covering the distance between the community and the grocery store showing directions, giving the definition of “food desert” & its meaning, and payment methods for purchasing fresh produce which made a good solution of their environment.

( Reflective Journal) Project 1: Word and Image
In the process of working on this protect I learned that the word “community” has several meaning to it. The definition I chose was “A social group of any sow whose members reside in a specific locality, share government, and often have a common cultural and historical heritage.” It began as a rough start with sketches and then gotten easier. I started to think about the cultural and religion based communities. So I got the idea of Nuns, because they all share the same belief in God and have made multiple sacrifices to get where they are now. I believe that the areas of this project I could’ve improved more on was the creativity within the piece and provide a better result to show “community”.
