Past submission deadline - but you can still post works!
Aaaaand we are past the official posting deadline!
A big, heartfelt thank you from the mods to everyone who managed to submit their work(s) on time. The cup of our 2024 collection runneth over with K/S goodness. 80 works have been posted so far!
"So far"? You ask. What does the mod mean by "so far" if we are past the deadline anyway...?
So here's the thing: you can still post to the collection. If real life kept you from fannish endeavours, or you ran out of energy or time, or the muse was just uncooperative, please do not throw away your idea or your half-written work, but keep working on it.
We have deadlines in order to make the mods' life a bit easier, and to ensure that there are enough works in the collection before it goes live on the 22nd, and also to give y'all a push to get things done. With the collection now flowing over with riches, we can afford to be lenient and actively encourage you to complete what you started, or to add one more work if you happened to stumble upon another inspiring prompt just now. (See the prompt list here.)
The works will go live on Friday, 22 March 2024, 12:01 AM UTC, with their creators still being kept secret at that point. Creators will be revealed at the closing of the fest, on Tuesday, 26 March 2024, 12:01 AM UTC. This is also the cut-off moment when the collection will be closed to submissions.
But until then... feel free to post your fic, art, poetry, podfic etc. Just make sure to have it complete and in its final version when you post it. If you have any questions or need help with anything (e.g. how to embed images, how to post etc), please get in touch with us here.
Thank you all so much for taking part in our event! <3

I was wondering: I know works for the spring fever are due on the 10th, but will there be chances to write things inspired by the prompts at some point after that too? I have some ideas floating around that I definitely won’t be able to finish this month but I might take a crack at them eventually 💚 thanks for running this awesome event!
Hi! Thank you for the Ask!
As our collection is now standing at 80 works, the mods are happy to be lenient about late-posters. Posting will be possible until works go live on the 22nd (just make sure you post the fully proof-read and complete version of your work), and even beyond that until we reveal the creators on the 26th. So, the collection will stay open for posting all throughout the fest. (Our deadlines are mostly there to make the mods' life easier, and to ensure that we start into the K/S Day celebration with enough works to enjoy.)
The prompts will stay visible and claimable even after K/S Spring Fever is over (I just tested this with a prompt from 2023), but when you fill it, you won't be able to add it to the collection as it will be closed after 26 Mar 2024 12:01 AM UTC. So I recommend gifting the work to the prompter, so that they will see it.
I'd say late fills of one's prompt are always welcome! It's the equivalent of finding an X-mas present in May that had been hidden away in a closet, or getting a very belated birthday present. <3
Sometimes people re-submit their prompts to the next K/S Spring Fever, or to our sister event @ksadvent, so if it's important to you to have your work in one of the collections, you can try to reach out to the prompter to check whether they'd be willing to re-submit it to one of the next fests.

hi! I just submitted my work for the event just before the deadline, but i sadly didnt manage to do a final proof-reading. Is it possible / is it okay to edit the story even after the deadline and before the works are revealed, as long as only minor edits are made?
Thank you!
Hello and thank you for this important question! Yes, you can still edit your work(s), but please make sure that edits are completed before the works go live (Friday, 22 Mar 2024, 12:01 AM UTC), so that people will be able to enjoy your work in its final and complete version.
Tiny edits, like finding a typo after reveals and fixing it, are always possible. (We've all been there...)

is it possible to stay anonymous when i fill a prompt? like, on the schedule it says creators are eventually revealed - is that mandatory?
If you would like to stay anonymous, I recommend adding your work also to the "anonymous" collection on the AO3. I don't know who maintains this collection, but it has been active since 2010 and has over a 100,000 works in it – seems reliable enough to me!
So after reveals, your work would appear in two collections, the K/S Spring Fever 2024 collection, and the Anonymous collection.

How many sister events do you have?
Our one sister event is K/S Advent Calendar: @ksadvent
But there are also several other events and projects focused on K/S or Star Trek, by other organisers, and we are happy to see them all thrive!

I wanted to ask about the rating of the prompts. If a prompt is rated for example Mature, do I have to write for a Mature rating or can I write for any rating Up to and including Mature??
Thank youuu! Also this prompt fest is really really cool so far! I’ve been reading though all the prompts and there’s so many I wanna see someone write lol
Thank you for the Ask! The rating for each prompt is the maximum rating. Therefore anything up to and including the specified rating is fine!

question about promoting because i didnt see it anywhere on the main ao3 page, but you answered an ask saying to promote - do we wait to promote until creator names have been revealed? or can we promote the prompts we finished before then?
just wanted to check before i accidentally jump the gun or something
(thanks for organizing this!! <3)
You can promote:
your prompts during the creation phase, in order to make people aware of them and hopefully inspire them to fill the prompts
the works you created for K/S Spring Fever, once they have been revealed and are not in anon phase anymore.
If you want to share how hard at work you are with this or that fill, you can also do that, but please keep it vague. Having a two-stage reveal (first the works, then the creators a fews days later) is a key element of this event, so let's not spoil the surprise.
Happy creating! <3 Thank *you* for taking part!

do you know what the prompt form means by semi-anonymous? the note says it's still guessable in some places. when i submit a semi-anonymous prompt, can mods see who i am? how is it guessable and by whom? i have prompts i want to submit but they're kind of embarrassing so i wonder if i have time to wait on an invite from a sock account or something LOL
The official AO3 info on anonymous prompts is: "Please note that the anonymous feature is not totally secure. Users may still be able to guess each other's identities by the prompts they create."
This means:
Either there is something in the prompt itself that gives it away (e.g. phrasing, or known DNWs or preferences).
Or someone guesses it by comparing the list of users signed up for the event (those are mentioned on the collection profile) with the list of prompts. Theoretically, someone could take the time to check who signed up and then check if there are any signed-up users that do not have any prompts, and then deduce that they must have submitted their prompts anonymously. However, you can set the "anonymous" feature separately for each prompt, so, for example, if you submit 3 prompts under your user name and 2 anonymously, you won't be easy to guess. A sleuth might be able to narrow down the list of possible anonymous prompters, but it won't be easy nor unambiguous. We do like to think/hope that people prefer to spend their time on creating instead of pointless sleuthing, though. :-))
Mods can find out more easily as we can download a spreadsheet with all users and prompts, but let me tell you: we really do not care (unless your prompt violates any AO3 rules or has anything malicious in it). As long as the prompt is within the scope of the event (K/S or K&S), it's all fine.
If it makes you feel more comfortable, you are free to use a "sock" account, but trust us: we've all submitted our fair share of wild and whacky or embarrassing prompts to various challenges. We don't judge or kink-shame. We applaud our anonymous prompters and encourage all "embarrassing" prompt submissions!

is self promo allowed?
Certainly! Promote your prompts! Promote your works from past K/S Spring Fever fests! Self-recs are always cool!

OMG, look at all these shiny prompts!!
Tumblr media
It's only been 5 days since sign-up & prompting has opened, and we are already at 69 prompts!! Go check them out here and let them tickle your muse! The collection is already open to posting, too, so let's go and fill it up! :-)
A general reminder:
The focus of your work should be on the pairing Kirk/Spock or Kirk & Spock. Slash (romantic and/or sexual relationship) and gen (friendship) are equally welcome. K/S has many layers and aspects, and this day is a celebration of them all. No other pairings will be accepted as main focus in this fest, i.e. you can mention another pairing in the background or even use it as plot device, but the emphasis *must* be on K/S or K & S. If a prompt does not follow this, the creator who claims it will still have to make sure the fanwork fits the theme of this fest.
All types of fanworks are welcome in this fest: fic, poetry, filks, art, vids, podfic, 3D-crafts, textile art etc. Made a giant cake with life-size Kirk and Spock marzipan figures? Post the photos. Even if a prompt is phrased for fic, it can still be used as inspiration for all kinds of fanworks. The spirit of this fest is: pretty much anything goes as long as you respect the prompter's maximum rating, the chosen universe(s), and the DNWs. A prompt is not a commission – artistic license is very welcome here, and our creators are encouraged to use the details given in the prompts as inspiration, not as a list of requirements.

Another question: if we claim a prompt, are we obligated to fulfill it? Or can we just grab a couple and see how many we end up getting to? Thanks 💚
There are no "penalties" for dropping a claim if it does not work out for you. Sometimes real life, time, or just the muse itself do not behave the way we would like them to.
Each prompt can be claimed multiple times, by multiple creators (so a claim does not take it away from other creators), and it is not a one-on-one gift exchange. A fill is not guaranteed.
This being said, I would suggest finding a good balance between claiming and filling (for example, clicking "claim" on each and every prompt and then filling none would be not-so-great; aim for a number that is feasibly doable and that won't put too much pressure on you). Happy creating!! <3

submitted my first two prompts and absolutely giddy with joy, hope somebody sees them
Yay!!! *throws confetti*
Happy to have you on board! I always recommend promoting your prompt(s) wherever you deem fitting, e.g. your Tumblr, other social media etc.
This is the direct link to all the prompts (the number will of course grow as long as sign-up is open): https://archiveofourown.org/collections/KS_SpringFever2024/requests
Spreading the word helps, especially as *anyone* with an AO3 account can claim/fill a prompt, even if they did not use the sign-up button or submitted prompts themselves.
So there might be somebody out there who has not even discovered K/S Spring Fever! Getting the word out is a great way of increasing your chances that a like-minded creator sees a specific prompt and feels inspired to write for it.

If someone signs up/submits prompts, does that mean they have to also write something? Thanks! <3
Thanks for the important question!
No, you can just sign up to submit prompts, that is totally fine! Each prompt submitted to the event enriches the pool of inspiration and gives our creators more choice.
Likewise, writers/artists do not need to be signed up and have submitted a prompt in order to claim a prompt. I know, I know, this whole "sign-up" thing is a tad confusing, but this is how prompt challenges work on the AO3. :-)
TLDR: Prompt submission welcome, independent from claiming a prompt. Claiming/Filling of prompts welcome, independent from submitting a prompt.
