Final Reflection Post
1) How has each course contributed to your personal and professional development as an instructional designer?
Mastery: Personal Development and Leadership :
The first course helped me to realize that I was in control of my decisions in life. It allowed me to view things from a different perspective that I had not originally thought of before. It served as motivation for the rest of the courses.
Strategies for Learner Engagement :
This class introduced me to the Instructional Design Models such as ADDIE & SAM. This was a fun course that also allowed us the chance to create sample ID models which I felt helped me to learn them better. The class also challenged my adobe designing skills and how I want to design assets moving forward.
Visual and Verbal Communication in Instructional Design :
This class helped me to get back into video editing, as well as using the application ScreenFlow and Adobe Illustrator. The course challenged me to take static information and translate it into the Interactive eLearning Module. Doing these assignments I learned how to navigate Adobe Illustrator and ScreenFlow a lot better than I did previously.
Corporate Training and Motivational Development :
This class I spent time learning about renewable energy options. It required me to do research on a specific energy and expand on it using visuals. The class also gave me resources such as Lynda.com so that I could use it as a guide to creating a good presentation. Without those resources, it would have been a tall task to complete the presentation assignment.
Instructional Design and Evaluation :
This class introduced me to the Training Needs Analysis. The class prepared me to get ready to deal with clients and subject matter experts in order to implement a training. It provided an example of a TNA and it was up to me to tailor the document so that it was client-ready. This class allowed me to use the Gradual Release Model. I choose that model because I believe that allowing learners to take responsibility for their work over time will have a higher chance of understanding the information as well as being able to implement what they have learned.
Digital Media and Learning Applications :
This class allowed me to create an Interactive Quiz. In order to create the quiz, I had to use the application, Brackets. Brackets allows for coding HTML files. Thanks to this class, I now know the basics of how coding works, and I plan on implementing that skill in my profession.
Music and Audio for Instructional Design :
This class helped me to understand Garageband better. I am familiar with music and audio production using other software programs, so some of the terms used in this course I had heard and seen before. This class also helped me more with the editing of voices and creating a good narration to go along with videos. It introduced me to different EQs and methods to changing the voice.
Filmmaking Principles for Instructional Design :
This class allowed me to create an instructional video as a media asset. First, it taught me how to make an effective storyboard and script for a video. The storyboard contained sketches that were to resemble how the final version of the instructional video should look after editing. Doing that work helped me to see how much detail needs to go into creating an instructional video for learners.
Game Strategies and Motivation :
This class taught me to think of fun ways to implement learning through a game. It helped me think outside the box in terms of how to use the application Google Maps to create a game-based learning activity out of it. In the future, I will look back to this class and the resources provided to help me create other new game-based learning activities in the future.
Learning Management Systems and Organization:
This class introduced me to what an LMS is. Thanks to the resources and Lynda.com videos, I was able to learn about the different types of LMS’s and what setting they should be used in. In the future, this knowledge will help me implement learning through an LMS with various target audiences. It will also help me to design modules in an order that will be most effective for learners.
Media Asset Creation :
This class allowed me to recall three media assets that were covered throughout the program and re-create them. An Instructional Video, Education Game, and an Interactive Infographic was to be created over the weeks in this course. It helped me manage my time a lot better in order to get the assets completed on time. The freedom to choose which order to do the assets also helped me to see what I spend the most time with. It challenged me to get professional work done in a specific amount of time.
2) How well were you able to utilize the concepts and techniques you learned from the program (theories, systems design, interface styling, and the creation of multimedia content) as you designed, developed, and implemented your Final Project?
I think my ability to utilize the concepts and techniques I have learned from the program have grown throughout the program. In regards to implementing them to my final project, I believe that the concept I used the most was reducing cognitive load. Knowing my own attention span and how difficult it can be to focus on something for a long time, I attempted to come up with ways that will keep the learner engaged with the content. I did this by keeping the on-screen text to a minimum, as well as not overloading content on one page. When my final project was completed, I was pleased by how everything turned out. The media assets that I created for my final project were grounded in theory which served as a good foundation for all three assets.
3) Describe your most outstanding personal triumph in each course.
1. Mastery: Personal Development and Leadership :
Motivating myself to embark on the journey that would be this masters program.
2. Strategies for Learner Engagement :
Learning how to navigate the Adobe software to create the ID Models.

Reflect:
In the previous course, I had the experience of creating an educational game for my Learning Management System (LMS) The game was to test the navigational skills of a specific age group. During my time creating the LMS, I have learned that the design of the content plays a huge part in engaging the target audience. My module specifically, I wanted to keep the design simple for learners to have easy navigation throughout the module. I added a traditional assessment to gauge what the learners have gathered from the content of the module.
Inquire:
Based on my experience from the previous course, I think that I should revisit uploading different assets to my LMS. I added videos from Youtube so that students and learners can click on to view. However, I would like to learn how to upload embedded videos straight from my computer. To help with this, I can use resources like Lynda.com to research techniques about the LMS in order to improve on the design and content delivery.
Suggest:
If I had more time with this course’s project, I would have added more visual assets to help support learner engagement. I feel that doing this will allow for learners to become active with their learning and start to think outside the box. I also think that if I had more time, I would find more ways to incorporate interactivity with the media assets so that the learners are more hands-on involvement with the material and content.
Elevate:
To Elevate, in the future, I will spend more time with visual assets to enhance the design of my module. This experience will help me with my personal and professional goals by allowing me to practice my skill set creating different assets such as infographics, instructional training videos, and interactive games that will help teach content in a fun engaging way. I want to create an LMS based on the Avid Pro Tools software. I want to be able to give learners the opportunity so that they can take the class and become certified with industry-level knowledge.

Self Reflection:
R:
My experiences in the previous course helped me to tone my video editing skills as well as my camera work. I had to really pay attention to the cuts I used throughout the video to ensure that everything would flow correctly and in order. It can be difficult to get 100% accuracy when editing particulars in a video, but I feel that the experience of doing so allowed me to get really into what I was doing to make improvements to my video production skills.
I:  If I had more time with these projects from the previous course, I would spend it on my camera work. I learned that if I’m motivated to edit a video to look a certain way, I find ways to improve on my revisions every time by watching the video over and over looking for things that can be improved. Most of my revisions are related to transitions in the video to help it flow better.
S:
My advice that I would give to future students would be to take their time with the camera work and getting the best shots. Taking time with camera work will help to limit the work that has to be done in post-production, this way the focus can be on how to cut the clips and place them in the video. If I had more time, I would use it to make sure my camera shots were exceptional. Making sure that lighting and the camera angles work well with the video.
E:
This experience helped me to get back into video editing. For a while, I was focused on music and audio editing. Thanks to this experience, I was able to refresh some of my skills and techniques for shooting videos as well as editing them. I will be able to use this knowledge and experience in the future when I establish a multimedia company that specializes in both video and audio production work.

RISE (Self-Evaluation)
R: I haven’t done coding in a while so it was refreshing to get back into it for this project. The Brackets app was something new to me, I had to familiarise myself with how it works and what I was able to do with the quiz from a coding aspect. It was a little difficult to understand some of the parts in the coding guide that was given to us to edit the quiz because Brackets didn’t upload the files in the software the exact same way it looked in the coding guide.
I: When I looked at the quiz recently, I thought to myself that the background color could have been different. Originally I had screenshot a part of the NASA video to use as my background. The image towards the bottom is actually a tree, however, it is difficult to tell because of how it cuts off the bottom of the image, I could have shown more of the image so that the viewer can tell what it is an image of. Some of my feedback responses are too close to the bottom making it difficult to read. It might help to reduce the amount of reading in the feedback responses.
S: If I had more time, I would adjust the background image to fit the image of the tree towards the bottom of the quiz frame. I would also find a way to cut back on some of the reading in a few of the feedback responses I gave. To help the quiz visually I think adding a different text color would be a nice touch because all the text is white.
E: Using Brackets and coding is something I want to do in the future. The experience from this project helped me refresh some of my skills with coding. I think that the interactive quiz was a good way to get back into doing that type of work. I can always use brackets and edit the quiz when I have time to do so, checking out the features and abilities I can do with Brackets. My next steps are to get better using Brackets and trying to code something from scratch to see how it comes out.

When creating the quiz I had to ask myself a few questions, what was the main focus of the video, what can a learner gain from watching the video and how can I measure what knowledge the learner came away with after watching the video? After watching the video I determined that the learner needed to have knowledge of, binoculars, what they are and how to use them, a compass, how to determine what direction to both look and travel, and the Wet Moon, also known as the Cheshire Moon based in Hawaiian Mythology.
My assessment is effective because it challenges the learner to pay close attention to the NASA video. The questions I chose to ask are in direct alignment with what the video speaks on. It is also effective because after the learner takes the quiz they will have a better understanding of the three main points of the video, what the Wet Moon & Cheshire Moon looks like, and where it derived from, how to use a compass to determine direction, and what binoculars are used for. After watching the video and taking the quiz, I believe the learner will have an overall better understanding of these main points and will have enough knowledge to try some of the information out for themselves.
Digital media learning is essential to learning and assessing the effectiveness of the learning object because it gives the learner a visual aspect that isn't solely text-based. digital media covers a wide range of visual, audio aspects that can engage the learner making them eager to gain more knowledge and information on the subject. It is also easier to have digital media in learning because of today's use of technology and how many people have access to a digital media source. It is also much faster to assess learning through digital media because of how instant everything is in today's society. In most cases, there isn't a lot of physical copies of quizzes or tests, and grading and measuring learning outcomes have become much easier through computer-based technology.

In the previous course, I had the experience of creating my own short presentation video for an audience of middle and high school students. I had to make sure it was informative and easy for the audience to understand and follow. I also created slides in Keynote to add to the presentation. It provided a visual aid for the audience who might have needed more than just auditory. Each of the slides had a relatable graphic to help the presentation covey the information to the students. My instructor helped to guide me in the right direction with her feedback on my final presentation. She suggested that for the video, I should use the “rule of thirds” for framing and to enhance the lighting aspect. That feedback will help me to create more effective and stronger videos in the future. I will start checking the lighting before I start to record, and make sure that the background, as well as myself, have the proper exposure in the presentation video.

“I look at where I'm at today and realize that most of my success is owed to the mentors that was in my life.” - Kendrick Lamar
This quote inspires me because I can relate to what Kendrick is saying. There were people in my life who pushed me to seek knowledge and to be myself no matter what. It is because of those who mentored me that I am where I am today.

"There isn't a way things should be. There's just what happens, and what we do."
—Terry Pratchett
This quote inspires me because It helps me stay grounded. I don’t get as worked up over things that happen in life as most people would do because I’m starting to understand that everything happens for a reason, and life moves on anyway.
