With "Let the Good Times Roll," SoCal Electro/Soul/Funk duo Crush Effect have transformed Earl King's classic "Come On (Let the Good Times Roll)" by incorporating an arrangement of speaker-rattling basslines and buzzing electronic effects. Different from previous covers by Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan, among others, the chorus is soaked in auto-tune and loops as a repetitive mantra atop a plethora of synthesizers, scattered drums, and multi-layered guitar riffs. It's a really cliché thing to ask, but the way things have been happening lately... it's really hard for me not to believe in it. This crazy idea that everything happens for a reason... I really don't understand it as well as I'd like to. Or, maybe that's the point of fate...to not question it and let things happen the way they should. I still believe that we're all capable of doing whatever it is we want to do, that we are all the drivers of this vehicle we call life but... sometimes the universe takes us in directions we never knew existed y'know? A few days ago, I was on tumblr and Spazzkid randomly popped up on my dash. I remember hearing about him a while ago, SyrebralVibes sent me Daytime Disco and I remember feeling really happy after listening to it. So I decided to do what anyone would do when they find an artist they like... follow them on their networks LOL! But... something kinda baffled me while I was doing so... ...I didn't really believe it at first, but while I was about to press the follow button on Twitter it said "FOLLOWS YOU" ... wait what? Did this just happen or...went on Soundcloud "Follow Back" ...wait what? Are you telling me he already knew of my existence? Woah x9001. I had no idea. At that time the way I described it was like "being reunited with a long lost older brother whom I never knew existed until now but has been watching over me all this time" sounds about right haha! Deifinitely an experience to remember that's for sure. It was then I jumped on Spazzkids Soundcloud and listened to Promise EP and heard "Truly" for the first time. Damn. It's... just one of those songs, man. I can't explain it. Not only did I feel connected to the song, I felt attached. As if the song had pretty much summed up how I've been feeling lately. Everything from the happy vibe to the super cute Japanglish rap... I just knew we had to do something with it. Hastily, I messaged Spazzkid and asked if we could remix Truly. "Of course man!" Followed by the download link to the stems. This had to be fate. It just had to be. This literally happened 2 days ago. So, I guess I don't have to explain where I've been these past couple days haha. "Yours Truly" is an amalgamation of all the feelings I've had recently. Quite literally, it's a bottled love letter in the form of a song. Goosebumps, butterflies and an open heart... The "I have so many feelings for you, but I respect you enough to keep them for the time being" letter. The "I can't think properly because you're taking up too much space in my head" song. I've never took this many musical risks before. We recorded lots of live percussion and we even decided to play Saxophone for the first time in 7 years. I felt like I needed to show you a little bit of who I was y'know? You had no idea how nervous I am right now. I'm sweating lol. I really hope you enjoy this piece though.
