kuroken month day 28: themeless - kitten summary: kuroo has a surprise for kenma.
>>> ao3 link <<<
. . .
“No, don’t do that, please don’t—Okay, you went ahead and did it.”
Tetsurou rubs his face, tired and deep in regret. The living room is now a mess, shredded tissue paper everywhere, something staining the carpet under the coffee table, which is now bearing scratches, and random feathers and balls of yarn tossed all over the place. Kenma is due home in an hour. And he hasn’t even started on dinner yet. This is going to be great.

Welcome Home
pairing: Kuroo Tetsurou / Kozume Kenma
prompt: pants
A/N: for @kurokenmonth
A click sounds through the apartment, door beginning to open before sticking, a creak as it’s forced open. Kuroo walks in, slipping his shoes off before he walks further into the residence, stopping in the doorway to the living room.
Golden eyes are locked on him, hand stopped mid-run through his hair. A slow smile spreads when he meets those eyes, watching in fascination as a breath hitches, a rush of air leaving the man resting on the couch.
“Kenma” Kuroo says, elation evident in his voice. Kenma takes his eyes off of Kuroo, looking back down to his game and doing his best to ignore Kuroo who struts into the room. He kneels on the couch by Kenma’s feet, climbing up his body to rest his hands on the arm rest that the younger man is resting against, hovering over him as he keeps tapping away at his 3DS.
“Pudding” he purrs, kissing Kenma’s forehead and peppering a line of light kisses down to the tip of his nose, chuckling when Kenma’s nose twitches at the feather light touch.
“Kenma” he purrs again, mouth against Kenma’s ear, grin growing when he feels the shiver run through Kenma’s body. “I’m home” he whispers, ducking his head to catch Kenma’s lips with his own. A moment of stillness before Kenma’s dropping his game, hands cupping Kuroo’s face and pulling him close, mouth pushing insistently but kiss remaining chaste and innocent.
“You were gone for two weeks” Kenma accuses when the kiss ends, resting his forehead against Kuroo’s, nose tips touching.
“I’m sorry” Kuroo apologizes, catching another kiss. His hand moves from the couch to weave into Kenma’s hair to pull him in even closer. Kenma’s own hands moving from Kuroo’s face to drop down to Kuroo’s neck before his arms slither around to wrap around the older man’s neck.
“You’re wet” Kenma states when his lips are free.
“And you’re wearing my pants.” The grin returns to Kuroo’s face, nails scratching against Kenma’s scalp. Kenma ducks his head in admission.
“You’ll ruin the couch.”
“How about a bath?”
Instead of answering, Kenma tightens his arms and shifts his legs to wrap around Kuroo’s waist. Kuroo takes that as the yes that it is and chuckles, rising off the couch and walking to the bathroom. If Kuroo decides to wear the pants Kenma had been wearing and Kenma decided to go pantless, well who cares anyway.

kuroken month day 29: themeless - pants summary: a story about a fateful pair of pants that brought them together.
>>> ao3 link <<<
. . .
He’s sitting there minding his own business, playing his game, when all of a sudden, something soft and distinctly colourful lands on top of him. He jumps, holding tight to his PSP while trying to shake off the—polyester?—fabric on him. It lands on the ground, and he blinks down at the… pair of… sparkly tights?
“Oh, fuck, sorry!”
Kenma looks up, squinting to see someone with really messy hair—-like ridiculously messy, how the heck is it defying gravity like that—-sticking his head out of the window, waving his arm.
“Sorry, my roommate’s a freak—ow! Bokuto, that fucking hurt!” The guy’s head disappears for a second, before reappearing. “Dude, sorry, can you stay there for a sec? I’ll be right down.”

kuroken month day 30: themeless - stars summary: a quiet night under the stars. notes: thanks to everyone that participated and enjoyed my contributions, i hope you all continue to look forwards to more of my krkns in the future!! also thanks to the admin running kurokenmonth!!
>>> ao3 link <<<
. . .
Kuroo joins him on the balcony with extra blankets and two mugs of hot tea. Kenma hums his thanks, barely looking up from the game in his hands.
“The stars are out, huh,” Kuroo says, sitting down next to him. He wraps the blanket around the both of them, smiling a bit when Kenma shifts his body so they’re leaning against each other. Their bodies, being so used to quiet nights like these, instinctively settle into each other, like they’re always unconsciously reaching for each other and only when they’re touching do they relax.
They sit in silence for a couple minutes, before Kenma asks quietly, “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” Kuroo responds automatically. He sighs. “It’s not wrong, really. I’m just… thinking too much. You saw the mail, right? Yamamoto’s getting married. Yamamoto. I can’t believe it.”
“Yeah, my condolences to his fiancee.”
Kuroo laughs, but it’s a smaller, fainter version of his usual boisterous laughter. He’s looking up at the starry sky. “Bokuto got married last year. Yaku’s been going steady with someone since college, and Kai’s expecting his second kid. Really makes you feel old, you know? It’s like we were just teenagers messing around and now we’re like. Grownups. Paying taxes, going to jobs, getting married, starting a family.” He falls silent, his eyes distant.
Kenma’s eyes don’t leave the screen, but his fingers slow. “Do you… want to have a family?”
“I don’t know. I feel like that’s an expectation, yeah? And it sounds nice. Having someone to love, someone that loves you back.”
“I love you.”
“Yeah,” says Kuroo softly, “I know.” He reaches up to ruffle Kenma’s hair. “Just not in that way, right? And I love you, too. Just not in that way, either.”
“It’s okay if you do want one, you know?” Kenma turns off his game, putting it aside before turning his piercing eyes on Kuroo.
“Yeah. Thanks, Kenma.” Kuroo smiles down at him, and Kenma gives him a small smile back. “But I really am happy with where I am right now. I like living with you, I like being with you. I like being your best friend, and growing old with you. Being able to be beside you is the happiest thing in my life.”
Kenma stares at him. Then he glances away, his lips tilting up. “If I didn’t know better, I’d say that sounds romantic.”
“What can I say, I’m a natural charmer.”
“That’s gross.”
Kuroo laughs. He holds up his arms to let Kenma crawl into the space beside him, before tugging the blankets closer around them. Kenma’s head fit right into the crook between his neck and his shoulders. He leans his head on top of Kenma’s, nuzzling the smaller man slightly.
“We’re good,” he murmurs, watching the flickering city lights in the distance. They match the stars above, and it’s beautiful.

Apple Pie and Spinach
pairing: Kuroo Tetsurou / Kozume Kenma
prompt dessert
A/N: prompt from yesterday’s @kurokenmonth
Kenma glares down at his plate, at the green blob of something.
“Kenma.” Kenma tips his head forward, a sign that he’s heard the call and his attention is caught. “You won’t get dessert if you don’t eat your spinach.”
Kenma’s glare transfers from the pile of cooked spinach up to Kuroo. Kuroo’s expression is innocent as he raises his eyebrows, a shrug in place as he stands, taking his own plate back into the kitchen. Kenma’s eyes stay locked on Kuroo, glaring at his back, wondering what hell Kuroo has crawled out from.
“I guess I’ll have to eat the apple pie we baked by myself” Kuroo says, rinsing his plate off and setting it in the sink to wash later.
Without paying Kenma any mind, he walks to the stove with a knife and cuts the pie that sits on the counter by the stove. A small whine escapes Kenma as he glares at Kuroo, down to his spinach and then to the apple pie Kuroo’s cutting into. He can smell the sweet, mouth-watering aroma of the baked dessert and his stomach rumbles at the prospect of eating some. But, the spinach.
Chopsticks poke at the green mass, a slight look of disgust on Kenma’s face as he watches the action. With a deep breath, spinach is grabbed with chopsticks and Kenma shovels the food into his mouth. He doesn’t stop, barely chewing and swallowing quickly until his plate is clean. His tongue is poking out of his mouth as he walks into the kitchen, the only sign he plans on showing that he had suffered eating the greens.
“Don’t forget to rinse your plate. I’ll serve you some pie” Kuroo says when Kenma walks into the kitchen, only letting his grin spread when Kenma is behind him and rinsing his plate off in the sink.
He makes sure to give Kenma a larger piece for eating his vegetables and walks into the living room and settles on the couch. Kenma comes in a minute later and snuggles up beside Kuroo, taking the plate with more apple pie out of Kuroo’s hands and beginning to eat with slowed gusto, his own way of refusing to admit that Kuroo had played him like a fiddle to get him to eat his spinach.

Pairing: Kuroo/Kenma Theme: coffeeshop!au: dessert (kuroken month day 27) (part i)
“So here’s that four hundred yen.”
Kenma actually pockets it and Kuroo can’t help the small smile that lifts one corner of his mouth. He shakes his head when Kenma looks at him inquiringly and takes the seat across from him. It’s been a week; with volleyball and school on his end and work and school on Kenma’s, Friday afternoon is actually the first time they’re both free. They’ve texted. They’ve definitely texted. But Kuroo’s still relieved when he sees Kenma there at their prearranged time; it makes him happy for two reasons:
1. Kenma is still interested enough that he’s shown up.
2. Kuroo’s ten minutes early, which means Kenma’s even earlier. And, assuming Kenma didn’t remember the wrong time, that’s got to be a great sign.
Kuroo chose a dessert place; his first instinct had been to ask him out to coffee, but not only is that where they met, that’s where Kenma works. And he more likely than not doesn’t want their first date (is Kuroo allowed to call this that?) to be there, where he’s reminded of cleaning mugs and being overwhelmed by the scent of coffee.
Kuroo has put a lot of thought into this date.
“So… thanks for not standing me up,” Kuroo starts as casually as he can.
“I wanted my money.”
“…Oh.”
Kuroo looks up and relaxes when he sees the ghost of a smile on Kenma’s expression. He returns to looking at the menu; Kuroo Tetsurou is no stranger to first dates, but this is definitely one where he’s more nervous than usual. Kuroo Tetsurou isn’t nervous very often. He’s nervous before big volleyball matches, sure, but that’s because it’s at the college level and broadcasted on national television. But before final exams, meeting others for the first time, during interviews, he is the exact definition of calm and collected.
But Kozume Kenma, the new barista who draws probably the cutest cats Kuroo’s ever seen, makes his insides melt and knees turn to jelly, so Kuroo’s so glad modern civilization has dictated sitting while eating.
So glad.
He’d even done the slightly unthinkable and reached out to Bokuto Koutarou, his best friend, for help. Bokuto’s a great guy; that’s not the problem. He’s the best, the most loyal friend anyone could ask for. But the thing is, he’s not exactly spectacular in the romance department. He’s dating someone, yeah, but Kuroo had orchestrated that and the first thing he says to Akaashi Keiji is:
“I know he can come off really strong, but I swear, Bokuto’s a great guy. Give him five chances.”
“…Five?”
“Five. Maybe six. Let’s say seven to be safe. I promise, it’ll be worth it.”
The stunning advice that Bokuto gives is to play footsie. Footsie. And Kuroo’s incredulous at first; it shows in the way he just stares, eyes narrowed and at a loss for words. But then Bokuto explains that it’s perfect; it’s subtle enough that he can assess just how into him he is but can also easily be played off as an accident if it turns out Kenma’s not interested.
So Kuroo waits until after they’ve ordered, an apple pie tart for Kenma and just a cappuccino for himself, to tentatively reach his foot out. It touches to something physical and Kuroo steals a glance. Kenma doesn’t look at him, but what matters is that he’s not frowning or expressing any sort of displeasure. Relaxing, Kuroo grows a bit bolder; he sits up straighter and rests his chin in his palm. “So,” he says, moving his foot slowly and gently, “how’ve you been this week? There’s a movie–”
“Kuro,” Kenma drawls.
“Yeah?” he asks, catches the very slight modification to his name and hopes that it’s a nickname Kenma’s bestowed, not him forgetting Kuroo’s family name.
Kenma looks at him tiredly.
“You’re playing footsie with the table leg. It’s making everything shake.”

kuroken month day 27: themeless - dessert summary: featuring kenma’s favourite apple pie.
>>> ao3 link <<<
. . .
The rain pours down all day on Friday, so they decide to stay in. Kuroo makes dinner and they eat in front of the tv, watching some game show and talking about nothing. Raindrops pitter-patter on their window, but inside it’s warm. They wash the dishes together, Kuroo telling about a funny story that happened at work and Kenma telling him about his latest project.
“Oh, yeah, I bought apple pie this afternoon,” mentions Kuroo, putting away the last bowl. He glances over at Kenma, and laughs. The other is positively glowing, eyes wide and bright, the excited squeeing that only people that knows him can tell. “Why don’t you get the plates, hm?”
Kuroo cuts them both a piece after they heat it up, scooping out two generous scoops of vanilla ice cream on top of the pie. Kenma’s practically vibrating at his side. Kuroo grins, pulling his hand back before Kenma can touch the plate. Kenma immediately frowns, hands grabbing. Holding the plate just out of reach, Kuroo bends down to kiss him on the nose, his grin growing wider at the blush that spreads across the other’s cheeks.
They settle back down on the couch. Kenma’s already digging into the dessert, his eyes glowing with bliss, his cheeks puffed out like a chipmunk. Kuroo never grows tired of looking at that face.
When Kenma finishes his pie, Kuroo’s barely halfway through his own piece. He glances away from the tv to see Kenma eyeing his plate. Rolling his eyes slightly, Kuroo pushes his pie towards the other.
“Go ahead, you hungry little kitten.”
Kenma pouts at him, but he’s already digging into the pie. There’s a bit of ice cream on his nose somehow. Kuroo shifts closer. Gold eyes flick up to his. Smiling softly, Kuroo leans in, and Kenma lets him.
It’s sweet.

You Make Me Want to Sing & Dance
Summary: Kenma is band manager for the rising band Nekoma. He meets a guy named Kuroo who he’s sure he’s seen somewhere but can’t be bothered to know or want to get to know. Unfortunately for him, Kuroo doesn’t give up that easily and Kenma soon finds himself bothered by Kuroo Tetsurou, who happens to be a rising model himself.
Notes: This was supposed to be for Kuroken month prompt - Idol AU. But I messed up?? More like Rock Star or a Pop Idol AU?? IDK?? And Kenma’s not even a pop idol?? Sorry! Please enjoy anyways!

kuroken month prompt: secret agents au
a collaboration with @anniekinkin / @bubblline
(to see her beautiful art for this ficlet click here)
word count: 2,783
summary: During an important mission, Kenma’s irritation at his partner’s flirtatious antics brings things to a confrontation where true feelings are revealed.
Classical music plays softly beneath scattered conversations throughout the ballroom. The orchestra sits just outside a large window that overlooks the back garden, the music wafting in from the balcony. Waiters and waitresses in smart black and white weave in and out of the crowd, carrying trays of appetizers and drinks. The entire place holds an aura of sophistication and expense, from the pyramid of champagne glasses to the swan ice sculpture.
Kenma, standing near a marble pillar in the back of the room, feels distinctly out of place. Although he’s wearing a tuxedo that no doubt cost his department over 100,000 JPY, tailored and pressed to fit him like a glove, he’s not used to the expensive tastes of this side of Japan. He grew up in a modest town in a smaller district. He knows nothing of fine dining, nor does he really care. Even now he has to resist the urge to tug at his hair, pulling it from the tail it’s tied in at the nape of his neck, secured with a black satin ribbon. The style leaves his gaze too open, exposing his face. He doesn’t like it.
“Kozume, you’re supposed to be mingling with the guests,” a small voice crackles to life in his ear. Akaashi sounds irritated, but Kenma remains where he’s standing, swirling the untasted wine in its glass absently.
“Kuroo’s doing enough mingling for the both of us,” he says in reply, trying not to sound bitter but unable to keep a sharp edge from coloring his tone.
His partner has been flirting up a storm ever since they arrived at the party. Kenma knows that their mission is to get close to the host’s son, a high-ranking member of the local yakuza. Apparently the young man has information about a shipment of illegal weapons coming in from Russia. They’re supposed to bug his personal cellphone, but he never goes anywhere without it and a handful of bodyguards. So their plan is to isolate him somehow and pickpocket the phone, to return it after the bug has been placed. Kenma highly doubts any of that requires Kuroo to act as though he’s trying to get into the guy’s pants.
“Oho? Is that jealousy I hear?” Bokuto asks, his voice lilting with curiosity.
“No.” Doesn’t the idiot realize that Kuroo can hear everything they’re saying as well? Akaashi and Bokuto are supposed to be backup, waiting outside in an unmarked van, on alert for any sign of trouble. Giving commentary on Kuroo and Kenma’s actions is not a part of their job description.
