At a church alter

He shows up in a tux

And gives him a ring

Man, I don’t think he eats them. I think ciel might be his only contractor too. I close to thinking they might be married

No guys I don’t think the new guy is Polaris, I think Polaris has been hoein around
#I think it was played as a jilted lover because it was too funny not to#But the ‘Polaris is a sebastian doppelgänger’ theory fits too well into this

I am fascinated by your observation about Shiva and Kali! I had forgotten that-- and it's not a parallel I've seen in fiction very often. Another reason I keep coming back to this series haha
Ikr it’s not immediately apparent because agni clearly means for it to relate to him and soma, but we he then tells sebastian their story it’s so obviously that they are supposed to be a foil. And I was remembering that today because Agni said he had lost himself in indulgence and depravity before Soma cut his hair and said ‘sin no more’
this really felt like Sebastian saying “but! I’m an honest man now” hahaha

I’ve thought this for a while, not that I thought it would ever be outright stated (I do primarily like them as friends, I don’t root for them to become a romantic pairing), but I’m not sure if it matters if it isn’t stated outright either. I think sebastian considers them something like “betrothed” and himself something of a “wife”. He’s always declaring his vows to ciel; that he is his to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, til death due them part. his loyalty is characterized as fidelity by will

they’re compared to siiva and kali. I’m really beginning to think ciel has been his only contractor ever

Man, I don’t think he eats them. I think ciel might be his only contractor too. I close to thinking they might be married

I forgot to point out how Sullivan thinks the seal on Ciel’s eye was a brand given to him by the cult. Which we know exists, but it’s the one on his back that she doesn’t know about. I wonder how Sebastian feels about her accusing his brand of being the same?

one last one before I go to bed. Checked 2 translations of this exchange so you don’t have to. It’s interesting that he uses a passive voice to describe their introduction, when we can see he’s otherwise completely forthcoming. Like he just happened to be there when it all went down. He also says that THE YOUNG MASTER was put up as the sacrifice. From what he told Ciel (before he’s been barred from lying, mind you) was that the real Ciel was the sacrifice, which our Ciel had offered. So, assuming this wasn’t just mistake on Yana’s part, I think Sebastian is keeping a few things from Ciel. He’s at least very aware that it was the Devil worshipers who put the children up as offerings; but the part where he says o!Ciel was the one being offered doesn’t make any sense, since we know he can’t lie 🤔

soliciting help from those among us who can read Japanese
Or I suppose anybody more familiar with what’s standard practice for manga
I’ve been alternating between scanlations and the official translations to attempt to get more context on certain things, and the official translations don’t keep those tagline things that’ll be at the beginning and end of every episodic chapter release. It doesn’t always matter but then sometimes it seems absurdly significant

A few examples. I checked the one site I know that has the Japanese release, but it looks like they weren’t kept when they were released in volumes in Japan either.
so, firstly: Am I dumb? These are written by Yana and crew, right? If so, we are supposed to take it as canon, right? second: where might I be able to find the gfantasy releases of Kuroshitsuji if I wanted to check that these aren’t inaccurate translations? because the first one is particularly wild to me, I was just rereading those chapters because I was trying to form a post about how I thought the scene was supposed to be read since I think it’s been widely mischaracterized for as long as it’s been out- to see that they actually described Sebastian’s expression as “lovingly” while most of the fandom has never believed him capable of that kind of emotion has me dumbfounded.

ahaha, K ended up using the exact same phrasing :}
A scene post-resurrection (Green Witch Arc)
I have been trying to figure out the best way to format a post about Sebastian in the green witch arc, and this part is enough for its own post. After Sebastian leaves the lab to rejoin Ciel and the rest of the servants, he’s being touchy in a way that feels out of character. It’s somewhat easy to disregard as Yana’s typical stylistic choices, but I probably have a better answer.

As per the early character guide,

I think there’s a measure of self-soothing to this, because we don’t see him ever gently wiping/holding Ciel’s cheeks at any point before now. In the last pages of the chapter this is from, Sebas happens to be saying something that comes up throughout the green witch arc.

it’s not the only time Ciel might be compared to cats either. Despite how Sebastian’s affinity for cats is initially put in contrast to his woes of being a butler and dealing with the humans of the manor, when he explains himself a little bit in the circus arc, he says something you could imagine him saying about Ciel if you recall how often he interrogates (/antagonizes) him to find out what he’s thinking.

And I think something like that is happening between them before being cut off by Dedrich. Sebastian is endeared by Ciel making snappy remarks; even as he’s pathetically groaning on the ground in a dress, he’s not even going to take Sebastian’s help without a fight. So I think in that moment Sebastian is thinking about how satisfied he is with things being back to normal and having Ciel back.
That might seem like a huge assumption to make on the basis of an old character guide alone, but that isn’t the only contributing factor to this reading. I think it’s the intended reading because Sebastian has just spent a couple of days under a different master, Sullivan, and Ciel wearing her clothes puts them into a superficial role-reversal which allowed her to escape into the outside world. When Ciel became lucid again, reestablishing himself as Sebastian’s master, we get this callback to Sebastian’s miraculous resurrection following the murder arc.
