Sometimes I just don’t know things.😂
I taught my first Sunday School lesson a few Sundays ago and I was PUMPED. I had my lesson plan ready, I looked like a million bucks, and I was ready to testify of my Man.
After I set up all my materials in the front of the room, I turned around to write on the chalkboard. It was only then that I realized there wasn’t any chalk. I thought to myself, “How could a church with chalkboards in nearly every room not have any chalk!?” Nobody told me I was supposed to bring my own chalk! Then it dawned on me: the library.
I ran over to one of the only people I knew in my Sunday School class and asked, “Do we have to get chalk from the library?!” To which she responded, “Yeah you do. And erasers.” CRAP.🤦‍♀️
I busted out of the classroom and bolted down the hall toward the library, moving so quick you would’ve thought Satan himself was after me. I jumped right in front of everybody at the library counter and screamed, “I NEED SOME CHALK”.
As I was (impatiently) waiting for the sweet sister serving in the library to get me my chalk, another sister slid a clipboard toward me. I thought, “What the freak is this!? I DON'T HAVE TIME TO SIGN UP TO BRING A DESSERT TO THE LINGER LONGER RIGHT NOW!” (for those who may not be familiar with the term Linger Longer, it’s one of those Mormon Terms™ that signifies an activity in which people “linger longer” after church and typically eat together). That’s when I was informed I had to sign my name so the ward could know who checked out the chalk, and that I would be responsible for bringing it back. Everyone got reallllll serious with me about that chalk. I was like… on second thought maybe I DON’T need the chalk that bad… I didn’t realize I was checking out the first edition of the Bible.😂🤔
I finally got my chalk, taught my class, and successfully returned the chalk to the library. I could have changed my whole Sunday School lesson to talk about caring for our relationship with the Lord as much as we care about that chalk, and about giving ourselves a break when we may not know something that it seems like all other church members know. But honestly, knowing how and where to get chalk really doesn’t matter. If knowing things like this DID matter, every last person would be in a whole lotta hurt because none of us will ever know everything.
Do you know the Lord? Do you know He loves you? That’s what matters.
