Final works, each of the patterns I used it for the works were influence by culture I have grown up with or heavily related too, yet they were randomised and unplanned in the styles and locations they were drawn, I believe that an unexpected result is an interesting concept to me.
Although the works were randomised some elements such as colour and contrast were re used from projects 1 and 2 and implimented into these works

Progress work project 4
the inspiration for this pattern was the deji stil art movement I learnt about In modernism, I took that movement and used key elements from it to create this randomised pattern

Pattern inspiration for project 4 works
Most of patterns I want to draw from this project are from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s or 90s these patterns are from everyday subjects in those times, objects such as furniture, clothing, transportation, etc. or they are from patterns that influence design in culture such as the iconic vans pattern, and the deji stijl art movement
I want these patterns to feel familiar yet abstracted because of the context they are used in, I believe repeating a pattern in a different context and adding high contrast will change the meaning of the original image, and that meaning is up to interpretation. This work will be very design based, randomised and almost unplanned, unlike my project 1 and 2 works which required specific planning and tools

project 4
“Project 4 (Weeks 7-12).   5 weeks: 25 hours
A Surprising Turn (or significant shift).
Having developed and presented your Projects 1 & 2, the Project 4 requires you to make work/s that take a surprising turn (or significant shift) away from these projects. If your prior works were considered starting points, how can new work develop in surprising or significantly different ways? This work will be done in consultation with your tutor and constitutes a substantial body of work.”
For project 4 I want to implement to abstract techniques into my work, which will create a different effect from projects 1 and 2, Most of patterns I want to draw from this project are from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s or 90s these patterns are from everyday subjects in those times, objects such as furniture, clothing, transportation etc. or they are from patterns that influence design in culture such as the iconic vans pattern, and the deji stijl art movement I want these patterns to feel familiar yet abstracted because of the context they are used in, I believe repeating a pattern in a different context and adding high contrast will change the meaning and affect of the original image, and that meaning is up to interpretation. This work will be very design based, randomised and almost unplanned, unlike my project 1 and 2 works which required specific planning and tools.
I was also inspired by an artwork I had completed in semester one, where I connected two images of plants with a pinstripe like pattern/repetitions of free flowing lines, that twisted and connected to each-other like vines, for project 4 I want to re-approach the mindset of freedom and randomisation I used in that work.

Peer review of Caitlin Penman’s work
Caitlin Penman’s resin bowl works heavily represent water like forms, the fluid yet textured shapes and vivid blue colouring of the resin bowls create and assist to create this beautiful effect of splashing water. to create these bowls caitlin covered suitable regular bowls in plastic, and poured the resin mixtures over them to create the shapes, this also achieved the rippling textures, blue dyes were also mixed in the resin to create the vibrant colours. Caitlin also informed us that she needed to perform various experimental trials at different temperatures, humidities and weather conditions to achieve a clear glistening resin. Due to how clear the works are they appear to be extremely fragile and heavy as they look like the have been sculpted out of glass. when the works are held though they are surprisingly light in weight and have a plastic like texture.

Project 3, display in Frank Moran Gallery,
here is my final display of projects 1 and 2,
these projects i created were a response to creating a body of work, or works for the body/works that are a body.
from top to bottom displayed are 5 different works each responding in a different way to the task,
1. the first work, alien body was created in response “to Project 2 (Week 4-6).Body Work/s for (or with) Something”,by cutting up images of a classic car i photographed i created new abstracted creatures in a negative space setting, i achieved this by adding to the photos with copic pens, creating teeth and eyes, bloody fluid and fins, this work highlights the bodies we can’t see without technological advancements whether these creatures live in the ocean or on our skin,
here are some photos of actual organisms here are some photos of actual organisms

___________
2. the second work is a response to how important the land is and how it provides for the body
Project 1 (Weeks 1-3).Work/s for a Body.
this work literally recognises the land (earth) as a work, a provider for the body. The landscape highlights purple mountains in night a scene, this references the celestial body work, that responds to Project 2 (Week 4-6).Body Work/s for (or with) Something. a glowing halo surrounds the mountains and highlights it significance, along with the gold lightly painted and blended around the circular outside of the work, this is a reference to how renaissance artists would use gold to halos to represents godliness or holiness. it also calls to action that we should appreciate, respect and maintain the beauty of our environment instead of damaging it with pollution.
______________
the third work responds to Project 2 (Week 4-6).Body Work/s for (or with) Something and Project 1 (Weeks 1-3).Work/s for a Body. this work is created from the spare segment of a dashboard from a classic car (from the body of something) I am restoring known as an eh holden (See below an original advert from 1964 of this car )

3. for this dashboard I took-out and cleaned the aluminium and clear plastic speedometer and accessory display casings to create a painting of a rural Australian road/outback. I painted this on the speedometer to represent the historic culture of a “Sunday drive” in a holden during the 1960s, this is a scene all Australians have experienced at some point in their life or are extremely familiar with it; driving a classic holden in the red and orange dusty dirt, brown and dark green shrubbery surrounds, bright blue skies and of course the classic kangaroo sign. this work personally speaks to Australians and represents a small part of our culture/traditions
____________
4. The forth work responds to Project 2 (Week 4-6).Body Work/s for (or with) Something. depicted in this work are multiple celestial bodies “By definition a celestial body is any natural body outside of the Earth's atmosphere. Easy examples are the Moon, Sun, and the other planets of our solar system” (definition provided by https://www.universetoday.com/48671/celestial-body/) I decided to paint a celestial body/s to appreciate how beautiful and unique they are, I also wanted to appreciate the significant role it plays in many religions,  cultures, forms of entertainment/practices and technological/scientific systems across the world as well as being an inspiring subject for humanity .
_________
5. The fifth and final work responds to Project 1 (Weeks 1-3).Work/s for a Body, and depicts an abandoned house from the early 1800s in south Australia, to me it is considered a standing piece of history and possible heritage. part of my heritage is german (my last name is Nitschke, a common name in Germany) and my father’s side of my family migrated to Australia in the early 1800s and could have lived in a house that looked very close to this one, seeing standing structures like this give me a desire to discover more of my heritage.

I used masking tape to stick the back pieces back to the metal casing, I glued the painting to the plastic using pva glue and holding it in place whilst it dried, the glue dried clear and stuck completely to the plastic revealing the image.
