Coming Up Thur Sep 17 @ 7PM KYJSUG+KYPHPUG Crossover: Jumpstarting Laravel Apps with Blueprint
Hello JavaScript & PHP friends. This month we're contining our Zoom-based virtual meetups this week on Thursday @ 7PM (Sep 17).
This month Jason McCreary (@gonedark) is going to share how to jumpstart a Laravel application with Blueprint, an open source toolkit to rapidly build out a web app from a single YAML file. It's an amazing tool that leverages and extends the framework generates to fill in the basic bits for your architecture -- it even makes TESTS!
If you don't already know JMac, he's a developer with over 20 years of experience coding and sharing his expertise. His BaseCode Field Guide (https://basecodefieldguide.com) and associated podcast (https://basecodefieldguide.com/podcast/) are excellent resources for developers looking to level up their chops regardless of toolkit. He's also the make of Laravel Shift (https://laravelshift.com/), a tool for automatically updating legacy Laravel apps to the current version of the framework.
This is going to be a fantastic talk and an excellent opportunity to learn from one of the smartest developers around. Hope you can make it.

Coming Up Mar 19 - KYJSUG+KYPHPUG Crossover: Open Sourcing Infinite Industries
Infinite Industries (https://infinite.industries) works to promote art and culture in Lexington, Kentucky. It's a great place to learn about anything from a punk rock show to the latest gallery opening.
The infrastructure that powers Infinite Industries is being developed as an open source stack anyone can contribute to. We hope it can act as a back-end for anyone in Lexington with events to share and that the code base will be useful to other cities around the country.
In this talk, Dima Strakovsky, Chris Wininger and Matthew Gidcomb will discuss the technical underpinnings of the project as well as the organizational challenges of running an open source project. We'll discuss the choices we've made and the pros and cons found along the way.
Some Technologies Discussed Will Include: NodeJS • Vue • Nuxt • JavaScript

This Thursday Nov 21 at KYJSUG: Building a VueJS Component with TDD
Test Driven Development (TDD) has become the demarcation between senior and junior dev (or maybe hacker and engineer). It will change the way that you think and the quality of the code you deliver. Come see how to use this approach to building a VueJS component. We will discuss testing frameworks and tooling as well.

I finally posted the slides from my Developers World talk at the TECX19 last month. It was intended as an overview of the way developer approach problems aimed at an audience of entrepreneurs, managers, and designers, to facilitate communication.
My point was that developers are creative problem solvers who use words and logic to “model” stuff with objects, properties, methods, inheritance, composition, apis, and frameworks, to build: web sites, web apps, mobile apps, and iot in a repository on a stack with tools and tests at scale for our users.
I thought it was a good talk.

KYJSUG is Co-organizing the Unconference Day at TECX19 on Sep 19
Get Feedback. Learn New Skills. Share Your Struggles. Come Share Your Code With US.
If you've never participated in an unconference the basic idea is that at a conference the attention is on the stage, at an unconference the attention is on the attendees. It reverses the arrangement and that's why its an 'un'-conference. In practice, what that means is that the most attendees bring a topic to share and register those topics in the morning while we're munching donuts and coffee. Then everyone votes on what they'd like to hear about and we follow the wisdom of the crowd (democracy in action, folks!). You're also very welcome to come and vote and listen and learn even if you're too shy to give a talk.
Plan for your topics to be 15, 25, or 45 minutes. We've going to group the talks by skill level as well, so we're sure to deliver information at the speed the audience is already at. We're going to send out a call for presentations as we get closer to the event and will open voting the day before the event.
