The Innocent Soul
On the day of October 18,2020 a double shooting took place and took the lives of two. Officers had arrived on the scene and announced that over 50 shots were let off. They had asked surrounding houses if they had seen anything and checked for surveillance footage. That same night famous and upcoming rapper Keeme had a show in Memphis. He had a sold out event that 10,000 people were attending. After his show he went to a hotel where he would spend the night which they would leave first in the morning. The next morning when they were getting up they heard a loud knock on the door that was police. They opened the door and police had told keeme that he had a warrant out for two first degree murders. When keeme heard the news he was shocked and couldn't believe what he had heard. They told him that multiple cameras had gotten the license plate of the car he was driving pulling off from the murder scene. They took him to Madison County Jail where he was charged at.
When Keeme was booked he was not given a bond and was placed in a cell with a tall white man who was nicknamed Death. Death had been in county for 3 weeks for a Armed Robbery where he was accused of robbing a Walmart. Death was tall, muscular, and very intelligent man. Death had told Keeme that the guards here was very toxic and would attack you. Death had let him know that the guards would call you to a private room and beat on you at random times. Keeme had let Death know that he was innocent and had only wanted to perform and make money. There not going to listen to that Death told him mostly everybody here was wrongly accused of crimes they didn't commit.
Keeme heart had had dropped and wanted to let his fans know that he was innocent. Later that day Keeme got a message from a guard that he was to report to a room downstairs. That room was the only one downstairs and only accessible to officers. Keeme knew what was about to happen so he just went to the room. When Keeme went into the room it was empty then 10-15 minutes later 3 officers came in there. With question they started to punch on Keeme at the same time. They were hitting him so hard somebody who was watching could feel the punches. After a few minutes they told him to go back to his cell.
When Keeme returned back to his cell he had looked in the mirror and discovered that he had a black eye and had bruises and cuts over his face. He got a wet sock and put over his eye then went to the top bunk to sleep. One week later he was in court for his second bond hearing. The judge have denied the bond for the second time and said that since he was facing two first degree murders that he shouldn’t be free. She told him that he was facing life in prison without parole and that they were seeking the death penalty. When Keeme heard that he was flabbergasted and then told them that he was going to get a paid lawyer. When Keeme meet with his lawyer the lawyer told him that there wasn’t plenty of evidence and that he could beat the case. Keeme returned to his cell and told death that his case was weak and that they didn’t have much evidence. After Death had heard what Keeme said he told him not to tell everybody your business because people will target you if they know you can get out. Keeme took Death advice and didn’t tell anybody else.
2 days after that Keeme had got into a fight with another inmate and had got sent to the hole for a month. The inmate had took his snacks and his supplies. When Keeme found it was him he was furious and punched the inmate. After their scuffle they were both sent to the hole for a month and had to sit in there cells all day. Keeme lawyer had requested that he could meet with him and wanted to ask him some questions. The lawyer asked Keeme where he was at the time of the murder and Keeme told him that he was headed to Jackson. The lawyer then proceeded to ask him how long was he in Jackson which Keeme responded 2 Hours. The lawyer let Keeme know that they don’t have any witnesses that are there and they also don’t have a murder weapon. They only have camera footage of the car and it’s license plate. So the lawyer asked him where did he get the car which he responded from a friend that let me borrow the car. The lawyer let Keeme know that the case was very week and that he would be coming home soon. Keeme face glowed up and was excited about what he told. After the 30 days in the hole Keeme returned back to his cell and he was reunited with Death.
Death had let Keeme know that his case was getting dismissed. They didn’t have a significant amount of evidence so they dropped the case. Keeme was happy for him knowing that he was getting out next. Death had told him to stay believing and don’t ever stop having hope about getting out. A week later Death was released and Keeme had a new cellmate. Later on in the week Keeme had his first pre-trial court meeting and his lawyer let them know everything. He pointed out that this was not Keeme car and had got it from a friend and that there was not an notable amount of evidence to even charge him. He pointed out that from Keeme phone location that he wasn’t even in the city of Jackson. The district attorney told the lawyer that was not a reason for him not to be charged.
When they was in court they asked Keeme did he want to plead guilty or not guilty. He told them that he was pleading not guilty and that he was going to trial. They told him that he was facing the death penalty and that if convicted he would be sentenced to death. He went back to his cell and waited on what his lawyer had to say and he said that trial would start in another year. Keeme wanted the process to hurry up so he start his shows to come back. He asked him if he could do anything to make it go faster and he told him that he couldn't do anything about it. A couple months went and Keeme had another court meeting where they offered him a plea deal.
They offered him a plea deal of 25 years - life in prison without parole. Kareem denied the plea and said that he was going to take it to trial. Keeme went to make sure all the evidence was good and that there wasn't anything wrong with the paperwork. He had been in a jail for a little over a year and his trail was starting in a 2 months. He knew he had to be found not guilty or he wasn't going to be a free man ever again. He started to attend bible classes in jail and tried anything to have a positive mindset. 2 months later a day before his trial he called his mom and all his family and told them that he was going to be coming home. He remembered what Death had told him and that was to always keep a positive mindset at any situation. The same night Keeme couldn't go to sleep because he knew that he was getting out and was excited to see everybody again. When 10 o'clock hit he was the first one up and right away put his clothes on. Today was the day to see if he was innocent or guilty.
Right before Keeme left all the inmates were praying for him and wanted to see him beat the case. He appreciated all of them and was transferred to the courthouse where he was about to be given a verdict on his case. When he walked in his heart hit rock bottom when he seen the jury in the stands and the family of the victim. His lawyer told him not to worry and just stay come. The lawyer gave all the evidence to the jury and the same for the Prosecutor. The jury all went to the back and they were gonna decide if Keeme was innocent or at fault for these crimes. The jury had a lot they had to decide on since there wasn't any noteworthy amount of evidence that says that Keeme had done the crime. They all had to agree to the same verdict which was taking long to do.
The jury had almost 4 hours to come up with a decision about this verdict. When they was walking back Keeme prayed to god and said that “ god please let me leave this courthouse a freeman.” They gave the verdict to the judge and he read what it had said out loud. “Mr Keeme Robinson you are here today facing two accounts of first degree murder” said the judge. In the first count of first degree murder you are found not guilty. When keeme heard that he shed a tear of joy. On the second account of murder you are found not guilty said the judge. Keeme jumped out of his chair with excitement as he was jailed for 2 years for a crime he didn't commit. He had his mom pick him up and he didn't ever want to experience this again.
When Keeme mom arrived she gave him the biggest hug a mom could give to her son. Soon after more of his family had arrived and everybody was emotional. They haven't seen his face in 2 years and he missed out seeing his little sis graduate. The first thing Keeme did when he got out was to go and get a haircut. Soon after he went to the mall and saw fans and they were excited to see him back out. He went on social media to let everybody know that he was a free man and he immediately dropped a song for all of his fans. Keeme knew that he had to work hard to get back were he once was in the rap game but after beating 2 murders nothing could stop him now.
