I really tried really hard to get everything correct in the comic, but I also want to add a few things:

I've seen Queerplatonic relationships (QPRs) explained in multiple ways including a platonic - dating binary, in which QPRs are the "nonbinary of dating." It's more than entirely platonic, but not dating. Therefore, lit lurks somewhere in between. While I think this description works well to help visualize what a QPR could look like, I held off on including this in the comic because it doesn't include QPRs who see themselves as purely platonic. I think the definition of QPR is nebulous on purpose because it isn't meant to put restrictions on how the Queer platonic partners must define themselves as other than committed and non-romantic. nude mods have, historically, been the domain of people sexing up games boringly and misogynistically. they mostly follow the mold already set by sexualized designs and animations in the titles they're modifying, and they mostly emphasize visible naked detail shallowly, passing over emulating the games' art styles and communicating believable form within them, making characters stick out as both different from and more generic than the other existing visuals. frankly, most nude mods skip the pretense of depicting character aligning with the game's tone, rather fixating on depicting bodies gratuitously. it's the use of nudity as sex appeal for a narrow range of tastes and it rarely carries any other value.

i aim to act in opposition to these tendencies. i present to you all: The First Ever Good Metroid Nude Mod

this mod injects a bit of samus' cool and unapproachable character and buffer design from super metroid's ending and official art into the first metroid. this isn't the overtly objectified suitless samus of metroid 1 with her pencil-thin waist and goofy expression; this is a honed and capable samus who is taking her situation very seriously. which is important, because she has to kill mother brain and escape zebes in only her boots

okay okay, fun and all aside: why did i make this? i've always had an interest in nudity and especially nudity as a form of self-expression, nudity as identity, nudity as a choice made with some personal intent. i've spent many, many years of my life seeking out reflections of that interest in the works of people who would probably not understand it at all, and i've spent just as long resenting that all those works ever gave me was discomfort with myself.

for me, to take a character in a preexisting work and make them naked is to project myself onto them. i don't want to remove from them their agency and divorce them from themselves, i want to entwine their character with either the circumstance of being naked or the choice to be naked. it's easy to just take princess peach's dress off; can you approach her character in a way that makes her believably want it off? idk maybe, i don't actually care about the answer to this specific hypothetical

hi i'm dropping all the academic pretense i think samus is the kind of girl who would go naked recreationally. 1) she's trans (obviously) and i know a wealth of trans women whose journey with their bodies culminated in "i'm so hot. everybody needs to see this" 2) she's a genetically-engineered superwoman who could absolutely withstand more on her bare skin than any US soldier could with layers of protective padding 3) look just let me have this ok

Bummer that it is to wait so long just for a consultation, I’m glad that I got the ball moving for certain, more intense steps of my transition.  There’s precious few doctors that do this sort of care, so the waitlists are understandably long.

Who knows what the political situation is going to be like in a few years?  Given how disgusting Republicans have been regarding the transgender community (and frankly, everything), will this sort of care even be legal for me to receive by then? 

Will I be someone that waits years for a consultation, then another few more to actually get my procedure, only to have it cancelled at the last moment because it will be outlawed, or policy changes will affect what my insurance will cover, leading to me no longer being able to afford it?

Uncertainty is a part of life and we do the best we can. 

It’s a shame that there are people among us that create additional uncertainty and stress. 

If you’re someone that intends to have more invasive medical procedures as part of your transition, maybe drop a line to clinics sooner than later.  Get yourself on these waitlists. 

We’ve all waited so long to be comfortable with our bodies, I’m hoping we all get the care we need.

Keep Our Wheels Turning

Hello, everyone! My name is Melody, host of the Songbird System, a disabled polyam trans woman. Life has been hard these last few years, but, people have been endlessly kind and patient with us during it. Now, we're hoping that people can help us weather this:

In 2020, we were involved in a motorcycle accident that left us with an undiagnosed torn rotator cuff. All that we could do was writhe in pain, hoping that the test they ordered would give us an answer, sooner than later. Unfortunately, sooner wasn't soon enough and we lost our job and our insurance, causing all of the costs of those tests to skyrocket. After losing all of our savings and an eviction from our apartment looming, the plans we had made before all of this to move in with our partners were expedited.

Over the next 3 1/2 years, we were bedridden while our partners served as caretakers while struggling to make ends meet. Eventually, our partners would find consistent work that made everything work; even if it was hard, we had each other and we were happy, even able to move into a larger house! Unfortunately, that was when our wife, Ember, was arrested and was told that they were being implicated as an accomplice by their abusive ex who we had worked to get away from him. This threw our life into disarray as a countdown began until they would be in jail for up to 3 years.

They were sentenced in February of this year and it has stripped us of every comfort we had. We're dangerously close to losing that house that we've worked so hard to keep, none of our years of job searching have had any results, and, now, the car we use to keep our bills paid has broken down. Any donations would help, but, we know that times are tough for everyone, so, even a simple sharing of this message along would be incredibly appreciated. Thank you so much for listening. ~ Melody
