somewhere out there right now is a kid with curly hair being raised by people who have wavy hair at best and those people are giving them 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner and telling them to dry brush it. and that kid is gonna spend all of middle school and high school hating their hair and moping over the flat iron. they're being told right now that if they don't dry-brush their curl pattern into oblivion every morning it means they're unkempt and gross even though they naturally have the kind of ringlets that a thousand bridezillas would commit horrible murders for every june. it's happening right now it's an absolute epidemic and a tragedy every time
#I was once one of those kids#let me tell you#it will get better#i have so many resources if anyone needs any help!!!

also if you were wondering. here’s my idea for her future habitat set up.
Might change it be a 50 gal since there’s some good tank sales going on rn. More space, the better! (so long as there’s plenty of hides and burrows!)
I neeeeeed to take more pictures of my sand boa. Cause she comes up out of the sand looking like this:

#I’m going to be treating it more like you would a hamster enclosure#since she’ll spend most of her time in a burrow.#i’ll also have a ton of premade burrows so once she’s in she can quickly find comfort#I’ll have to do this all slowly as quick changes can be stressful for KSBs#Her current set up is just a bin with a heat pad#but she desperately needs a real heat lamp and UVB and more substrate!!! I want her to burrow!#The look of the tank with plants and stuff is just for me since she’ll basic be a “pile of dirt” pet

How the fuck am I supposed to meet a fellow lesbian and then convince her to date me
Don't know anything about lesbians, but maybe if you walked around carrying a baseball bat that'd be really bad ass.

slightly furious reminder that fish do in fact feel pain and do in fact experience fear and distress when in pain since people seem to love spreading the myth that fish don't feel pain. what is it with people assuming a creature is incapable of feeling pain or emotion just because it doesn't have complex facial muscles. come on gang
#my fish mean so much to me.#I love when they follow me as I clean the glass and trim the plants.#it hurts my heart when I see fish struggling at our store. I wanna do whatever I can to keep them to feel peace#if they didn’t feel pain then they wouldn’t feel fear#and it’s soooo obvious when a fish is stressed!! how can people deny that and not care?#i care so much. my tiny babies. my heart.

Treating fleas
Fleas never really stop being an issue in vet med, but as we in the northern hemisphere are rapidly entering summer, it is once more kicking up in intensity.
In a perfect world, everyone should have their pets on prevention year-round and we'd never have to deal with them, but that's not an achievable outcome.
If your pet does have fleas, you need to treat all pets in the household with effective prevention for at least 3 months while managing the environment. Let me break that down a little further:
"all pets in the household" means every non-human mammal in the house. I don't care if you're only seeing fleas on your one dog - other dogs, cats, ferrets, bunnies, guinea pigs, etc all need to be treated too. All of them.
"effective prevention" unfortunately at least in the US probably means prescription medication, which means your pets have to have a current (generally within last 12 mo) exam on file with a veterinarian. Frontline and other fipronil- or pyrethrin/oid-based products available OTC have become largely ineffective in the last decade or so. I know it's more expensive to get prescription prevention. But I promise it's more expensive in the long run to spend money on products that don't work well and then still have to buy the good stuff afterwards.
"at least 3 months" is because of the flea life cycle and how prevention works. The stuff you give your pets kills the adult fleas when they bite, so they disappear and stop making more fleas. Flea eggs will continue to hatch for a couple months after that. If you treat for less than 3 months you will have the same fleas again. If you stop treating after 3 months you can get fleas again (just like you got them in the first place) but are not guaranteed to.
"managing the environment" means doing what you can to minimize the number of flea eggs that are around. This helps keep your pets comfortable (less itchy) and healthy (reduced risk of illness from fleas). Mostly I have people focus on good household hygiene like vacuuming and washing bedding frequently. If you do use a flea "bomb" product, read the packaging carefully first - most of these are toxic to pets and so have to keep pets out during and for a period of time following treatment.

(w: mentions of pet death (not mine) very brief)
just found out that the woman that hated me at my old job location turned out to have stole over $1000 worth of merchandise, was responsible for the death of her dog (who she refused to get treatment for), and was hated by everyone!!!
#I feel horrible for the poor puppy that had to be put down. She was only 3 years old :( such a sweetheart who will be missed#It sucks she had such a mean caregiver… who use the money meant for life changing care to get… cosmetics for herself.#Listen I wanna say I hate gossip.#But then vindicating stuff like this happens and well#This is why I always trust my instincts and intuition about people!!!#I am so good at reading people I should start a social book club!!!
