A question I’ve had on my mind for a long time BPP: do you remember how Jungkook said the J on his ring finger stands for Jungkook? What do you think of that? He could’ve chosen not to answer that question but he answered it and said it means Jungkook. I’m as strong a jikooker as anyone but it made me wonder about the JM theory. Sorry if this is not in line with your blog themes, it’s OK if you ignore this ask, I just love your perspective on things and wanted to know what you think. Thanks BPP.
***
Hi Anon,
I'm pretty sure my opinion about this is unpopular lol, both with jikookers who think Jungkook didn't mean it when he said so, and with non-shippers who can't stand any sort of shipping theorizing about his tattoos.
But, yes I think Jungkook is telling the truth when he says the J on his ring finger stands for his name. It’s possible he's telling a small fib to downplay his attachment to Jimin - it wouldn’t be the first time he’s told a verified white lie to protect jikook’s honour, as it were, so yeah it’s possible that he lied. But I'm choosing to believe he's saying the truth when he says the J stands for his name. That is, as far as we can tell, the truth.
Something that is also true is Jimin calling himself ARMY. Jimin has referred to himself as ARMY several times over the years, in situations that make no sense and that get eyebrow raises from all the members.... except Jungkook. Which leads me to think it's something of an inside joke between jikook - that much is clear, but I also think it's something more than that. What that is exactly, I don't know, but here's my gut feeling about it:
Jungkook has said the person he connects most with on stage, when they are performing in front of ARMY, is Jimin. For all the members, performing on stage is their reason to live, but this is most explicitly said by Jimin and Jungkook. Some of their most heightened emotional experiences, have been on stage and/or tied to their performances. Whether it's Jimin breaking down during Rosebowl and Jungkook screaming that he loves ARMY and loves him; or Jimin crying during his performance of The Truth Untold and Jungkook moving to support him; or jikook changing the lyrics at the end of their performance of the same song and turning to look at each other as the lights dim; or a teenage Jungkook stopping in the middle of a performance to stare at an injured Jimin during their Red Bullet tour - the other members moving around them wondering why they are locked in a stare-down in the middle of the show; or how Jungkook broke down in tears during the last LY concert and turned to Jimin for comfort who then used his sweater paws to wipe Jungkook's tears...
Jikook have been doing this for years. Consistently. There's a peculiar chemistry they show only when they are on stage together in front of ARMY that frankly doesn't feel at all like the fanservice I'm used to seeing from idols. It's as though they lose certain inhibitions when they are in this heightened emotional state when performing. They connect on a level I can't fully explain to be honest, but I think it's a connection they both recognize and perceive that the presence of ARMY is one way to facilitate it.
Basically, at the intersection of Jungkook and ARMY, lies Jimin. Without Jimin convincing him during pre-debut to stay with BTS when he wanted to quit to become a dancer, Jungkook wouldn't even be in BTS. That's just one example. I don't doubt Jungkook is telling the truth when he says the 'J' stands for his name, but I think the placement of the 'J' is also intentional, and that he intentionally placed it above the 'M' in ARMY knowing that it spells out Jimin's initials. Because I think for Jungkook, he feels that the person he is, the Jungkook that's matured into a global superstar honed by hundreds of performances in front of ARMY, won't exist without Jimin.
Like I keep saying, what exactly jikook's relationship is, I have no idea. But there's something about them that's peculiar. It's wholesome and beautiful and perplexing and simple.

I think jimin underestimated himself and the album toooooooo much😭😭 he should have fought for a visual album🫠
also face would be faar more successful than it is now if they followed the layover layout (prereleasing 2 songs before a month- in jimin's case smfpt2)
also I saw some ppl saying letter wouldn't fit in face but I think it would be a perfect ending not that the current tracklist is missing but letter (a love letter to his fans would fit perfectly at the end imo)
layover and face didn't receive the same treatment at all, layover had much more playlisting (face had absolutely 0) like lma and slow dancing spent some weeks in tth while lc eng version is the only song put in tth because it got no 1 and removed immediately after 2 or so weeks (comparatively bp girlies got more than a month in tth without touching top 1p in spotify)
Do you have unpopular/controversial opinions?
Ah, I know a lot of you guys feel this way. I could tell so many people had thoughts on FACE that were unpopular (because I was sent a lot of asks similar to this) but it wasn’t the right time to talk about it because of the cesspool that the fandom became after it’s release.
I think I agree with you in some ways. I don’t remember when but someone once asked me what I think Jimin needed to work on and I said assertiveness but truthfully speaking, this may have simply been the result of him not having any experience in this space prior to this era. (Even so, he should’ve gotten that visual album, idc. What happened there was absolute BS, and I fully expect there to be such a thing for future albums.)
I could tell he was super nervous at first but as time went on and after FACE era came to a close, I noticed from his words alone that there was a different kind of excitement and yearn for working on his projects and exploring his ideas. Even his disappointment that he expressed in his last couple of lives with NJ/TH/JK and his own final one was a good thing, in my eyes. It’s exactly what I was looking for. I felt like I could take a breath of relief after I first read him talking about how he felt during the beginning of his solo era vs. “now”.
Before his solo era started, I remember posting about how the one thing I wanted to see was the shift. That sort of change, that flourishing that comes with an artist when they’re allowed to explore their own artistry and their identity in music/performance. The growth, the confidence, the newfound determination. We may have our own thoughts about the specifics of how FACE went down but trust that we’re in the beginning stages of that growth. It’s likely we’ll look back at this in a few years time and he’ll feel like a different artist altogether. I can only hope he’s given the space and opportunities to allow this growth to happen.
I tend to agree with the people saying Letter wasn’t a good fit because I think FACE had such a specific theme going on that Letter’s vibes would’ve made the album feel a bit unbalanced. BUT, it should’ve been on streaming platforms. You do make a good point about it being an ending for his fans, that actually would’ve been kind of cute. 🥹
As for Layover. The marketing plans were good in concept, but what happened with this album was precisely what I feared along with many others. Even people who stan/listen to NJ were doubtful of this because they didn’t know if it’d work for a BTS member just because it worked for NJ. It’s a different artist with a different fandom. So would it have worked for Jimin? Who knows. But I do think Jimin’s prerelease could’ve been handled better. I feel like the standard one week prior plan wasn’t good enough considering how the era was going to last only nine days. 💀
And yes, LC was treated like garbage promo wise. One of the biggest fumbles of all time and I will forever be bitter about it. That song had so much potential and fans did everything in their power but there’s only so much a fandom can do without equal amount of support from a company/label. It still breaks my heart when I see that FACE promotional animation.
In the end, I can say I’m so proud of how Jimin lovers came together for him. FACE era may have been truly hellish in a lot of ways, but it was also so special. There was so much outpouring love and pride from his fans. It was such a special moment in fandom history.

Armys indifference towards jimin is eye opening to me. Has it always been this way? I think ever since I became a solo I’ve started to see things a lot differently that’s why I don’t outtightly judge the Armys that make it seem like they’re making it up because I was them at one point and unless you’re heavily biased towards jimin or a solo stan you’re just not going to see the vitriol hate he receives. I used to be a shooter account in 2020-2021 I had a large platform defending the members all the time and even though I biased jimin, I never saw even a fraction of the shit I see now as a solo. That’s why when armys say “they all get hate” it’s coming from them only seeing what their timeline provided to them, they’re not going out of their way to see what Muri or people like him say about jimin and no one is bringing it to their timeline and this is not me defending them because I think it’s ridiculous to not even acknowledge it but in a way I understand why they are the way they are. But the part where you said they’re not to6 and most bias the two youngest members is true, taekookers are the majority of the fandom and a lot of them see jimin as the big threat not only in the fake relationship they have made up but musically too, jimin does nothing and you’ll have people constantly name drop him and his music is loved but fans even though I’d say he doesn’t have nearly as many solo stans as the other two. I think the fandom in general hold Jungkook to a much higher standard than the rest especially jimin, I remember when jimin got a #1 and a lot of them were saying “wait until Jungkook comes” like it was a threat and how he will outdo jimin like they have something to prove. It’s pathetic to witness it everytime. Ot7 is a myth no matter how much they sugarcoat it, even the members are liars, they do see each other as competition maybe less of jimin and Jin but most of them care about the charts and how they perform
No, the current indifference was a recent change. Mostly because of how well face and lc did in comparison to dday which was the catalyst. Armys have always been “fine” with jimin but almost purely in the context of bts. He’s the only member that they never allow to be anything but an extension of bts and they’re pushing him even more into that role now because they find him digestible as the group cheerleader. It’s always “jimin and his brothers” as way diminish him as an individual or use him as a prop. It’s also why Jimin can’t have anything to himself. Not even the hate that he gets because armys always have to trivialize it by making it a maknae line issue and it’s done purposefully.
They’ve crafted the narrative that pjm solos are the worst, so whenever something proves the opposite they have to derail it. And that’s why I can never give armys the the benefit of the doubt of them not knowing about the hate jimin receives at the hands of jjks/tkkrs/kths because I know they see it. They follow their accounts and they interact with them (which is why I curse the day hybe hijacked the 7 symbol and made it jk’s brand)They just do their best to shield those groups from callouts because in doing so they’d be attaching th and jk’s name to them and they don’t want those two to get dragged. But anything with jimin attached to it? Automatically in the wrong and gets witch hunted.
I’ll never forget when a jimin biased army exposed a shooter on twitter for being a giant kth solo and jimin anti and armys outright defended them despite overwhelming proof that it was the truth. They even ran the jimin biased person off site because that account being a blink doxxer was more important. That’s when I knew that the bulk of armys do not care to “defend” jimin past blinks or the kpop stans who attack him from the outside. And even when they do that, it’s still to his detriment cause a lot of times they’ll offer him up as bait using his achievements unprovoked and get him dragged in the process.
That’s another thing in itself too. Armys are also only okay with what jimin has accomplished if they can lord it over kpop stans because as soon as we bring up the fact that jimin achieved what he did with no payola or label aid, all of a sudden it’s shade to jk. I used to HATE whenever armys would be under jimin’s chart tweets with that “just wait until jk debuts” BS because it just shows how desperate they were to restore that status quo and the hidden rule in the fandom.
Jimin is allowed to be good but he can’t be better than anybody else. He’s popular but tk are the most famous members. He can dance but hobi’s the best out the group. He can have writing and composing credits but it will never compare to rapline. Jimin has always been the outlier in bts because he’s always underestimated and put into a set role. Imagine he’s the only one out of maknae line that put any effort into his album and armys still ended up centering face around joon when that documentary came out just because he gave jimin advice. Not only that, but armys also do the most to find any way possible to give tk credit for those two albums that they don’t deserve. And all because those two didn’t live up to their own pretentiousness.
This isn’t news cause I’ve shared this same sentiment before but I never believed that jk deserved the high pedestal people put him on. He doesn’t do anything significantly better than anyone else in the group but because of his looks he gets that extra boost. I’ll never lie and claim that he’s not talented but that’s about it. He’s given more room to not live up to expectations while still getting heralded as the group prodigy. And it’s like, okay? But how long will you wear that out before you actually do something worthwhile to live up to that title?
There’s plenty of things that have made me realize that outside of the group, some members just don’t appeal to me. So it’s not that they potentially see each other as competition that bothers me or makes me think that they’re liars but some decisions that have been made that has made me resentful to some degrees towards them. And I don’t think that’ll change tbh.

Karen Smith, Who Took an Oath on a Stack of Banned Books, Tells the Story Behind the Viral Photo
Tumblr media
by Kara Yorio
The viral photo has become a symbol of the fight for intellectual freedom. It was retweeted by actor and activist George Takei and singer Pink, among thousands of others.
Central Bucks County (PA) School Board president Karen Smith’s decision to get sworn in on a stack of frequently challenged books that have been attacked in her district was not an intentional attempt to become the poster person for fighting book banners. It was not done to become known as a “badass,” as those on the internet have declared her.
In reality, an off-hand comment in a group text—and nearly two years of fighting for students in the district to have access to books—led to the moment and image that lit up social media feeds after the December 4 ceremony.
Following victory in the November 7 election, an incoming board member for the Central Bucks County Board of Education wrote in a group text that they should take their oath on banned books. While no one else in the group followed through on the suggestion, Smith thought it was a great idea. Not being religious, the Bible doesn’t carry great meaning to her. On the other hand, over the past two years, she has realized how much the freedom to read and giving kids access to a diverse selection of books does mean to her.

It's so funny (and somewhat annoying) that acknowledging Jimin's enormous contribution to the success of BTS may not be in keeping with Bang PD's initial plans, but it actually shows what a great visionary he is. He should recognize this and give Jimin the due recognition (and unabashed support) he so righfully deserves. Just sayin'! 😒
I can actually understand the reservations Bighit would have in incorporating Jimin into the team. He joined late so I can see them debating whether adding someone at the last minute to the team makes practical sense. We also know there was no clear vision about how his vocals were going to be used in the beginning because Yoongi and Jimin mentioned that they kept making him do rap so I assume their goal was to make him a sub rapper or something. His main talent was dance but again it was contemporary dance and BTS were supposed to be a hip-hop group.
I get it - adding Jimin to the team changed the entire dynamic of BTS - he wasn't great at rapping but he had good vocals so now they suddenly had an extra vocalist. They also had a contemporary dancer in the group now. Adding Jimin wasn't just a matter of adding another member, it was about possibly changing the entire direction of the group so I can see why they hesitated.
I understand all that. What I don't appreciate is how they keep going on about how Jimin didn't fit in the group but people like Bang never address the other side. That adding him to the group is what allowed them to have more flexibility and expand beyond a regular kpop hip hop group. About his talents being a gateway to BTS' eventual success. Those blanks have to be filled in by others - by the other members or by the authors of the book or by the journalists covering that part. Why can't Bang (and others) give Jimin his due as they consistently bring up his initial incompatibility or so called incompleteness?
To me it just reeks of someone who will not accept that Jimin was the catalyst to BTS' enormous success because it wasn't his vision. I have to think it's an ego thing - that he missed something that was so obvious to so many other people that even today he doesn't want to fully acknowledge it.

I’m happy jimin is releasing a new song but I wish he’d sing about something else. I don’t give a flying fuck about the fans. They’re boring.
***
I want to dig up a post I made two years ago about how the people who get mad at how BTS highlights their fans, how those people will be probably better off not keeping up with a group like BTS. I'd dig up that post if I had time because I think you ought to read it.
No group highlights their fans like BTS and within BTS Jimin is one of the members who does this the most. I understand if you'd rather hear him sing about anything else, in some ways I agree, but Jimin is the last person to not release a fan song as a Christmas gift. Just saying.

They really didn't vote for Jimin. Haha.
https://twitter.com/jimin_lil_devil/status/1730887343194915288?t=VBMRyyV33TW1BBecbIq5QA&s=19
Just had to vote enough to push Jimin inside top10.
He worked so hard to promote in Korea and the fandom didn't even give him even one year end win in mma?
What a fandom. Good lord.
A lot happened in 8 months since his album release, but that was all out of our control too.
But this? They just needed to vote for Jimin. But they chose not to, cause they wanted to prioritize Jungkook.
I am so done.
A little less votes for jungkook and a little more for jimin and both members would have won.
The fandom with those big fanbase accounts showed once again what Army stands for. I'm not shocked at all by the outcome and I'm almost past the point of anger because I knew this would happen. It only proves it has nothing to do with merit or something that makes sense and instead shows the power of those who are leading in the community. It doesn't matter that Jimin's entire promotion was that of a K-Pop idol who clearly also had his Korean audience in mind or that Seven and the entire Golden album was made for a Western audience as it was clearly stated by the singer and Bongo. I didn't make that up, they themselves said it. The award goes to whoever Army leaders decide it needs to go to. Jimin loves Army, they tell themselves and write it on twitter as an automatic response to every single legitimate criticism. What a joke.
