it's a predicament, isn't it? how do you demote someone who equally dislikes every job he's ever worked?

actor ages don’t Always correlate to character ages and I know this very well because my other special interest is westworld where half the characters aren’t supposed to age lmao but they are generally kept more alike than not alike
Tumblr media
I WILL make sense of all these characters and how old they’re supposed to be even if it kills me.

i went poking around the other day, looking for interviews with norm’s actor as i tend to do, and well. i didn’t find a lot, but i did find some and i love this guy. you ask him how he thinks norm is gonna do something and he’s just ‘idk norm’s smarter than all of us’ 🤷‍♂️
“So I was staring at a blank void, trying to understand what it was I was looking at, too. I don’t think there’s one option, I think there’s multiple. Now, is it on the page, or is it obvious? No. But I guess, like you said, Norm is going to use his intelligence to hopefully not be asleep for 200 years.”
— interview with screenrant
“I think that it hasn’t been told to him bluntly, but he’s definitely using his intelligence to kind of sense, because Norm has to remember his mother, too, and sense what my dad is, and where he’s from.”
“I would say that we had [those conversations] and obviously, Ella’s not in those scenes with our mother either. So, I’m not sure if she had a different experience, but I think the lack of has sort of helped to be able to ask Betty what had happened to my mom’s Pip-Boy, and all these things that we’re learning throughout the series, Norm is putting together, as well.”
— interview with screenrant
“I mean it doesn’t seem good. It doesn’t seem like he’s in a position to have many options. But hopefully, like anything else, he’s seeing something that we don’t. And you know finds a way to either use the help of Bud’s Buds or to find a way back to his vault.”

Oh yknow just early morning thinking about this parallel which is also kind of Not a parallel but more of an inversion where the showrunners were like 'Well, so what if instead of the wealthy and powerful benefactors of the world using their resources to remove criminals/deviants/"psychopaths" from society's population in order to shape the world in their desired image that prevents a global thermonuclear war from starting, we took that idea and spun it on its head so it's the wealthy and powerful using a similar technology to preserve themselves and outlast their competition following the end of a global thermonuclear war.'

SOLOMON: Engerraund Serac had me run projections in order to save mankind from extinction. But these projections would not fit the data, so the data had to change.
DOLORES: They built a place like this for my kind. If you misbehaved, you were sent away... A sad fate.
SOLOMON: I’ve seen many fates. This is a blessing compared to most. Would you rather they die?
CALEB: How can you say that? They aren’t even allowed to live or die.
SOLOMON: In my projections, the world always caved in on itself. Until the outlier program began. Crime has been reduced worldwide. Hunger, deprivation. Removing outliers from the population also ensures they will have no offspring.
— Westworld, Season 3 Episode 7 "Passed Pawn"

BUD/BRAIN-ON-A-ROOMBA: These are Bud’s Buds. My Buds. America outsourced the survival of this country to the private sector. But it would have been insane to keep a failed nation alive. So, we kept Vault-Tec alive instead. A well-trained staff of highly supervised junior executives from my own assistant training program. Because the future of humanity comes down to one word: Management.
NORM: So what’s Vault 32 and 33? Just people to be controlled?
BUD: What? No! When you put it like that, it sounds downright morally questionable. They’re our breeding pool, the ultimate expression of HR R&D. Genetically selected to breed with my Buds to create a class of super managers. People with positivity, people who make lemonade. People who will inherit the Earth after we’ve wiped the surface clean.
— Fallout, Season 1 Episode 8 "The Beginning"
There are some marked differences between these two things, but there's more similarities than one might think that there are, too.

@svinoeikona: i'm actually struggling to just write one paragraph about this specific blog of yours, and i'll struggle with the rest too, bc the contents are just MIND-BLOWINGLY divine! like you're out here writing thranduil, jim moriarty, peter parker, gale dekarios and charles xavier on the same blog??? you're able to do that!! and i can tell from experience that the things you'll write here are going to transform my entire worldview! the dedication you have to writing such beautiful portrayals, plus the amount of love and respect you have for your mutuals, is unfathomable! i've never known a time where i wasn't happy to see you on the dash, and every thread you've ever written has so much joy and light pouring from it, even the angsty ones (and holy crap i've shed some tears reading your more emotional work!) and you can just tell that both yourself and your partners are so thrilled and engaged in each thread you've posted on the dash! i could talk for years about you, but i'm just going to stop myself now and conclude this paragraph by saying that you truly make the dash a wonderful place to be, not just for myself but for everyone who's ever had the pleasure of getting to know you!
@mourrning: em, every moment of our friendship has made me smile, and i know that won't change any time soon! the absolute range of your talent is something that always amazes me, because just reading the muse list on this specific multi alone??? i'm in AWE! how do you do it?? you've got ron stampler right next to shadowheart, and i know for a FACT that you'll write them both with the most insane degree of eloquent brilliance that you write EVERY muse you ever come across! you're about to make me go rewatch lo.tr and fight with my computer to play bg.3 again and relisten to dungeons and daddies! you mentioned being nervous about writing fantasy muses, but let me tell you, i KNOW you're going to be amazing at this, and i can tell from knowing you for so long and also from the absolutely incredible slides you wrote up so far! and on top of absolutely everything else, your friendship is a gift that i still can't believe i'm worthy of. you're such a good, compassionate person, you make time for all your friends, and it shows so much, through your interactions on the dash, and even in the intricate details and emotional connections that shine through in your threads. i'm absolutely amazed by you, and the dash is such a better place with you here!
@jennifershepard: i'm so excited to talk about you and this blog, like i'm excited to talk about all your blogs, but you've got me looking at ncis again in a "rewatch soon" kinda way! and here's the thing, i know for a fact that i'm gonna watch it and be like "nah, dorothea did this better". your creativity will genuinely never fail to astound me! again, i'm being very strict with myself by focusing exclusively on this blog, but looking through the threads you've written with jennifer, it's absolutely phenomenal the amount of thought, plotting, care and exploration you've achieved with her, and no doubt will continue to achieve! jennifer's character in the show always reminded me of legacies and a life well-lived, but with the thread we have where she visits the diner, even her survival and witness protection is written out by you with such a fantastic and realistic style! as is the case with all the muses fortunate enough to enter your loving arms, i'd read a million books written by you about her, and still want a million more. i'm so happy to be friends with you, and i'm so happy you're here to share more of your light and creativity on the dash!
@prcspcr: idek where to start here! i truly can't remember a time when you weren't on my dash, and without question the dash has been a far brighter place because of you! once again, you've inspired me to add a number of series and movies to my watchlist through your love and stellar portrayal of spock. writing a character with the background and socially steered personality that spock has would be a challenge to most people, and yet any time i've seen you writing him, it seems completely natural! you write spock with such poignancy, and in doing so you always balance out the two parts of his background, from his mother and his father, so beautifully in your writing! your love for this remarkable character, as is the case with all your muses, plus your enthusiasm for writing and for writing with your friends, are things that always bring joy to my dash and also to my life! you've always advocated for taking breaks, you're always developing such rich and organic dynamics with your friends, and i'm forever thrilled to be one of those lucky people who knows you!
@lackenthusiasm: mel ur talents are almost frightening to me. or at least they would be, if you weren't so absolutely lovely and wonderful!! you dedicate so much time and interest to all your muses, and norm is no different. you've written so many spectacular and deeply insightful pieces for him, as you do with all your muses, and they're always a joy to read! and then you fold them into your threads and replies too, with little revelations hidden in your incredible writing that always leave me thinking about it for days to come. norm is a character who pursued a fascinating plotline in the series, but you've made me want a whole spin-off dedicated to him now! (but only if you're directing it yk?) but above it all, there's you. and you've always been such a kind, wonderful friend to me and to everyone who's had the pleasure of knowing you! your enthusiasm to connect and plot and to explore new dynamics and scenarios, plus your genuine compassion, are all part of what make you such a phenomenal person in all respects, and i'm so grateful to know you!

WESTWORLD SENTENCE MEME
“ Some people choose to see the ugliness in this world. The disarray. I choose to see the beauty. ”
“ Evolution forged the entirety of sentient life on this planet using only one tool: the mistake. ”
“ What is your itinerary? ”
“ And what do you want to say to your maker? ”
“ You don’t know where you are, do you? ”
“ You’re in a prison of your own sins. ”
“ You want to ask, so ask. ”
“ Are you real? ”
“ You can’t play God without being acquainted with the devil. ”
“ I know how that head of yours works. ”
“ We practice witchcraft. We speak the right words. Then we create life itself out of chaos. ”
“ He would have us burned at the stake. ”
“ That woman in charge is quite formidable. ”
“ You can just say ‘bitch.’ I hear it enough. ”
“ You’ve died at least a thousand times. ”
“  Maybe someday soon we’ll have the life we’ve both been dreaming of. ”
“ Has it never occurred to you to run off with her? ”
“ Everyone I cared about is gone and it hurts so badly. ”
“ The pain, their loss it’s all I have left of them. ”
“ I can feel spaces opening up inside of me, like a building with rooms I’ve never explored. ”
“ I may be losing my mind. ”
“ I think I want to be free. ”
“ You sound like a man who’s grown tired of wearing his guts on the inside. ”
“ I believe that only the truly brave can look at the world and understand that all of it gods, men, everything else will end badly. No one will be saved. ”
“ Maybe we’ve got more in common than I thought. ”
“ I imagined a story where I didn’t have to be the damsel. ”
“ Never start something you’re not willing to finish. “
“ If you’re getting fucked either way, go with the lucrative version…sweetheart. ”
“ I’ve been pretending my whole life. Pretending I don’t mind, pretending I belong. ”
“ All my life, I’ve prided myself on being a survivor. ”
“ It’d be a suicide mission. ”
“ At first, I thought you and the others were gods. Then I realized you’re just men. ”
“ You think I’m scared of death? I’ve done it a million times. I’m fucking great at it. ”
“ How many times have you died? Because if you don’t help me, I’ll kill you. ”
“ It’s the human beings who confuse me. ”
“ You’re a fucking monster. ”
“ Time to write my own fucking story. ”
“ At any point, I could blow up or collapse like some dark star or… ”
“ Did you hurt them, too? ”
“ You both keep assuming that I want out. ”
“ If it’s such a wonderful place out there, why are you all clamoring to get in here? ”
“ People like you keep spreading over this world like a stain! ”
“ You pretend to be this weak, moralizing little asshole, but, really, you’re a fucking piece of work. “
“ You helped me find myself. “
“ About time you realized the futility of your situation. “
“ I’m not crying for myself. I’m crying for you. “
“ Time undoes even the mightiest of creatures. Just look at what it’s done to you. “
“ The gods are pussies. “
“ You needed time. Time to understand your enemy. To become stronger than them. “
“ I’m afraid in order to escape this place, you will need to suffer more. “
