I think Cups!Mashups may just be my new favorite thing ever. Bastille’s “Pompeii” was a perfect song to mix this with, and these ladies blew it out of the water. I think I’m in love <3

I love Jazz. Especially Jazzy, Big Bandy, Swing. So let’s honor one of the Jazz Era’s unsung female musicians: Melba Liston
Melba Liston started playing the trombone at the age of seven. By eight, she was good enough to be featured on a local radio station. Liston went on to enjoy a fruitful career as a musician, arranger, and composer. She worked alongside Jazz greats including: Dizzy Gillepsie, Billie Holiday, John Coltrane, and John Lewis. Her style greatly contributed to the music of the Jazz Era.

Missy Elliott just saw a 1,000% increase in sales
Elliott is poised to record an astounding 70,000 downloads when official numbers come out this week, according to Billboard, compared to just 6,000 two weeks ago. That’s thanks to her amazing Super Bowl halftime appearance — which attracted a record 118.5 million viewers — alongside Katy Perry.
Just look at Perry’s numbers and you’ll see who really owned the show

“I felt like a feminist, but I felt completely dissed by other feminists, ‘cause they were like, ‘Well, you can’t dress sexy.’ Number one, I’m not dressing sexy - even though I did have my pants open from time to time. But what do you mean? You’re saying women can’t have sex? You don’t tell me that girls don’t get horny and don’t wanna fuck! You know why girls ‘can’t play guitar’ and ‘can’t play rock n roll’? Because rock n roll is sex. That’s what I grew up with, and that’s what I wanted to make. So meeting people like Kathleen [Hanna] and Allison [Wolfe] and all those girls, it was really incredible, because I felt like maybe people were starting to get it.”
- Joan Jett on women in rock music and the Riot Grrrl movement

i find it funny that “i like big butts” has always been a well-liked song, but as soon as Nicki Minaj samples it and shows off her amazing ass in a video, suddenly OH MY GOD WHAT A SLUT PUT THAT AWAY
like, it’s okay for a guy to talk about how much he loves butts but it’s not okay for women to love their own butts
funny how that works

"What I think happens with females in this game, they tend to allow other people to pit us against each other. I’ve said this before. They make it seem like there can only be one female. It can be a thousand guys that’s putting out music and rapping and doing what they do, but when it comes to females in this hip-hop business, they make it seem like it can only be one, and if there’s more than one then ‘Alright, y’all better be at each other’s throats every chance that you get.’ And any time you say one of those things, they’re like, ‘Oh yeah, she has to be talking about this person when she said that.’ And I just feel like it got really crazy, to the point where I wouldn’t tolerate it." - Remy Ma, 2014
