The wind whipped around you as you sat at the edge of the cliff, staring out at the vast emptiness ahead. Tears streamed down your face, no matter how hard you tried to stop them. You told yourself not to cry anymore, not to show that kind of vulnerability. But you were so tired. Tired of everyone leaving. Tired of not being able to rely on anyone, of constantly being disappointed. You had always believed you could count on certain people, only to be left alone in the end.

And now, it was Light.

The person you thought you could lean on — the person you had even started to fall for — wasn’t the same anymore. He had changed, maybe more than you could have ever imagined. Kira had consumed him. It was like the Light you once knew was lost, buried somewhere deep, unreachable. You had known for a while now. You knew who he was. But you hadn’t told him. You didn’t need to. Light was too smart for that. He could see it in the way you looked at him now — in the way your once-soft gaze had hardened with quiet understanding.

But tonight, sitting here alone with your tears, it wasn’t just Light. It was everything. Every person you had ever trusted, every relationship that had slowly shattered when you needed it the most. And now, here you were, on the edge again, feeling like you were about to break.

You were so lost in your thoughts that you didn’t hear the footsteps until something crunched underfoot behind you. You quickly wiped your tears with the sleeve of your shirt, trying to pull yourself together, only to hear that familiar voice.

“[Y/N],” Light’s voice cut through the stillness. He sounded calm, but there was something behind it, something sharp. “What are you doing here?”

You stiffened, your breath catching as you turned slowly. He stood there, hands in his pockets, his face unreadable, just like always. His presence was overwhelming, like it always had been. But now, instead of comfort, it filled you with dread. You had spent so long trying to avoid this moment, avoiding him, but here he was.

“You’ve been crying,” he stated, stepping closer, his gaze unwavering.

You swallowed hard and shook your head, forcing a smile that didn’t reach your eyes. “I’m fine,” you whispered. “It’s nothing.”

Light didn’t buy it. He never did. He stepped closer, his eyes narrowing as if he was calculating something. “You’re lying to me.”

You bit your lip, tears threatening to spill again. “I’m just… tired,” you admitted quietly. “I’m tired of everything. Of people leaving, disappointing me. I’m tired of depending on anyone.”

Light’s expression didn’t change, though his eyes softened for just a moment. “[Y/N],” he said again, and this time, it felt different. Almost like the way he used to say your name, before everything changed. Before Kira.

But you couldn’t look at him anymore. Not when you knew the truth. Not when the person standing in front of you was no longer the Light you once trusted.

“I don’t even recognize you anymore,” you whispered, your voice shaking. “I don’t recognize who you’ve become.”

Light’s jaw clenched, and he took another step forward. “People change,” he said softly, his voice low. “You should know that.”

You closed your eyes, letting out a shaky breath. “Not like this.”

There was silence for a moment. Then, you felt his fingers gently brush against your cheek, wiping away a tear that had fallen. The touch was so soft, so familiar, and yet it felt wrong.

“I’ve always been this way,” he said quietly, his voice closer now. “You just didn’t want to see it.”

Your heart clenched, and you opened your eyes, meeting his intense gaze. “I used to think… I thought we could be something.” Your voice trembled, and you hated how weak it sounded. “But now, I know it’s too late.”

He didn’t say anything, just watched you. But then something shifted. His eyes softened, and his lips curved into a small smile. “[Y/N],” he murmured, his voice dropping to a whisper. “Sweetheart… don’t cry.”

The use of the pet name caught you off guard. He had never called you that before — not in a serious way, at least. It made your heart ache, like he was playing with a part of you that was already too broken. But the smile that followed wasn’t Light. It was Kira. Cold, calculated Kira.

“Don’t cry over something that isn’t worth your tears,” he continued, stepping closer, his hand still resting gently on your cheek. “You don’t need anyone. Not me. Not anyone else. You’re stronger than that.”

The softness in his tone made it even harder to breathe. It felt like a lie, even though you knew he was speaking the truth. His kind words felt empty because you knew who he really was now. You knew what he was capable of.

But the worst part was that you wanted to believe him. You wanted to believe that somehow, the Light you used to care about was still there, hidden somewhere underneath the cold exterior. But you couldn’t. Not anymore.

“I’m not strong, Light,” you whispered, your voice breaking. “I’m tired. I’m tired of pretending everything’s fine. I’m tired of everyone leaving, of being let down.”

His smile faded slightly, and his eyes darkened. “People will always leave,” he said, his voice low. “That’s the way the world works. You can’t rely on anyone but yourself.”

You looked away, fresh tears slipping down your face. “Even you,” you muttered, more to yourself than to him.

Light’s fingers tilted your chin up, forcing you to look at him. His gaze was intense, almost too much to bear. “You don’t have to let go,” he whispered, his voice softer now. “You don’t have to give up on everything, baby.”

The word “baby” rolled off his tongue so smoothly, but it felt wrong. Like he was trying to comfort you, trying to pull you back to him, but with the same coldness in his eyes. The same manipulation. You felt yourself breaking all over again.

You closed your eyes, pulling your face away from his hand. “I already have,” you whispered, your voice barely audible. “I’ve let go of who you used to be. And now, I have to let go of this.”

For the first time, Light didn’t have a response. His hand dropped to his side, his expression unreadable. And for a brief moment, you thought you saw something flicker in his eyes — regret, maybe, or something deeper. But whatever it was, it was gone in an instant, replaced by the cold, calculating Kira.

“You’re right,” he said finally, his voice flat. “It’s too late.”

With those words, everything between you seemed to crumble. The connection you once had, the feelings you tried to ignore — it all disappeared in that moment, swallowed by the reality of who he had become.

Without another word, you turned away from him, walking toward the cliff’s edge. You didn’t look back. You couldn’t. Because you knew the person standing behind you wasn’t the Light you had once known. He was someone else now.

Someone you could never trust again.

And it was time to let go.
