I'm Portuguese born and raised, my dad was born and lived in Canada for part of his early life. He has no English accent in his Portuguese, nor do I have a Portuguese accent in my English. I learned English from an early age because we talked to each other all the time. Sometimes we'll be having a conversation and switch from one language to the other, to the absolute horror of my mother (she doesn't know English)

Hey, hi. I'm Portuguese. I grew up and still live in a pretty rural, very religious/conservative part of the country. My folks are... not like this. But seeing the most stereotypical Portuguese old man hugging a pride flag and so overcome with emotion... It gives me hope. Maybe someday, things will be better. For me, and for all the other queer kids who grow up stuck here. It's hard to not feel trapped when you grow up stuck in a small rock in the middle of the world's second largest puddle, forced to rub shoulders with people who would definitely not be friendly if they knew you for who you really are. Sometimes the internet is awful. But this has given this closeted trans girl hope. Thank you.

There are sounds of cheers and crying and the two people hug each other as they exchange the flags. The man at the doorway then waved kisses to the crowd within the pride parade.

For context, apparently they were worried that maybe he's a nationalist because he was waving the Portuguese flag and some nationalists opposing the pride march were waving that flag. But upon interacting with him, it turns out he didn't have have a pride flag and he wanted to wave *a* flag in support of the pride march. So they had an exchange and now he has his own pride flag 😭🥹.

I feel the need to add that I loved watching Dora as a kid because the EU Portuguese dub of the show taught you English instead of Spanish and it's probably one of the many reasons I got so interested in learning English as early as I did. Amazing show.
