How to learn to write good sex scenes? :(

bless you but framing this like a question to google is so funny 😭

now to answer your question, i do in fact have a few tips.

Ask yourself what you like about other sex scenes! is it the dialogue? the acts? the kinks? do you just like the specific words they're using?

when you identify what you like, try to 'copy' it. when I say copy, i do NOT mean plagarise. if you like Max saying to Charles "I want to fuck you full of my babies" don't write that exact sentence (though it's obviously generic to some extent). instead identify what in that sentence you enjoy (can even by specific words - do you like him saying fuck? do you like him say full? or my? maybe you even like the plural of babies!) so you might come up with something like "I want to fuck you full of me" instead.

also understand what you like about the elements of a scene. do you like the foreplay? the penetration? do you like it when there's equal amounts? try and follow the flow of a scene you like. again, do NOT plagarise. but if you like how much foreplay there is, focus on that! write a long sloppy blowjob, then skim over the penetration.

understand the purpose of your sex scene. sometimes there is no purpose (totally fine) and you just want to write horny porn. go for it. but if there is wider plot to your story, consider what else the sex scene can do for the story. e.g. is it a reunion? are they trying to get pregnant? did somebody just win a championship? are they learning something about themselves or each other?

don't forget the EMOTION! only in very rare cases should there be no emotion. otherwise, you almost always want to add SOMETHING. longing, love, relief. the best sex scenes always have an emotional element (consider the sex scene in the chef au, where they had been reunited after so many years and there was so much longing and pining even while they were fucking).

also remember that things that are sexy in real life do NOT ALWAYS translate well to words, and things that are sexy in words do not always translate to real life. sometimes things ARE okay in smut, even if you'd never do it irl.

don't just focus on the act. similiar to point five, make sure there is emotion. don't just write "he did this, then did that, and then he fucked him and then he came". boring. write "he did this, and it made him feel like that. he did that, and he really liked it when he did this. he fucked him, and it made him realise this. he came and it felt like this." so for example:

Charles pounds into him, the bed rattling beneath them. He thrust over and over, keeping a steady rhythm, until he finally came.

vs

Charles pounds into him, the bed rattling beneath them. He feels hot and sweaty, breath ragged in his chest, and he can't focus on anything other than the red in Max's cheeks and the way his lips have parted with his quiet pants.

He thinks he's never seen anyone as beautiful as Max in this moment.

He thrust over and over, keeping a steady rhythm, until he finally came, warmth exploding in his stomach. Max whines so prettily beneath him, and Charles wants to listen to that sound forever.

see what I mean? I used the same words in both examples, except in the second i added a little more flavour by focussing on the feelings.

8. finally, have fun with it! people like some crazy shit, and you'll pretty much always find someone who likes your brand of smut. sometimes you'll even find a lot! breeding kink wasn't super common in lestappen before wygig, and now it's got a life of it's own within the community. i've read everything from tentacle porn to full bdsm to vanilla sex to collars to oviposition. trust me, it's not going to be as weird as you're scared it will be.
