Lady Sophy’s Vintage Royalty Blog
2K posts
An American woman of color who’s interested in European vintage royalty (mainly the Romanovs and Greek Royal Family) of the Victorian and Belle Époque eras. Also a tribute to Countess Sophia Nikolaevna de Torby. And also fascinated by the Royal Stuarts and the Cromwells. Formerly VioletRose90 on here. Note: This is not a monarchist blog. This is mainly an interest/hobby blog with some humor, theories, assumptions and speculations mixed in. Those who don’t have a sense of humor nor like historical royal blogs with a creative or unconventional twist aren’t welcome here.

Another example of that Bastard Grand Duke Nicholas Nikolaevich the Elder’s Stupidity…
I found an interesting tidbit about that bastard while I was trying to look for more info about his son’s Grand Duke Nicholas Nikolaevich the Younger’s love for cooking. During the Russo-Turkish war (1877-1878), Nicholas (the Elder) had the great idea to swallow a chicken bone that got stuck in his throat for days. He nearly died.
Oh and he deserves to be called a bastard for how he treated his poor wife Grand Duchess Alexandra Petrovna.

youtube
Yes, I’m over a decade late, but highly recommend this documentary if you’re interested in the Romanovs. Some interesting information I haven’t heard of aside, the cinematography and the re-enactments are stunning.

Queen Henrietta Maria by the studio of Anthony Van Dyck, 17th century.
Around noon on 9 february 1649 Queen Henrietta Maria sat down to dinner in the Palace of the Louvre. Here, in her ground-floor apartments looking out over the River Seine, she was just a few rooms away from the bedchamber where she had been born almost forty years before. As a girl of fifteen, seated on a throne in another nearby state chamber, Henrietta had received her first love letter from the English prince she was to marry. Everything about her then had been French: her exquisitely tailored silk dress, her hair in tiny curls, her witty conversation, her whole outlook on the world. But now, after twenty-three years of marriage, Paris was merely a 'sad place of exile'. Her love for her husband and her children - three sons and three daughters still survived of the nine babies she had borne - tied her to England, as did a real affection for the country and its people. Visitors to the Louvre were regaled with praises of the land she had been forced to leave. For ten or twelve years, they heard, she had been 'the happiest princess in the world' Her husband, King Charles I - 'mon cher cœur', 'my dear heart' - was the best of men: 'good, just, wise', 'a king, a husband and a friend' all in one. The love between them was 'the admiration of all Europe'.
Henrietta's charm was irresistible. 'She had an infinity of wit, that sparkling wit which pleases beholders,' Madame de Motteville recalled. 'She was agreeable in society, courteous, pleasant and easy to get on with; living without the slightest ceremony amongst those who had the honour of being near her. Her temperament was inclined towards mirth; and among her tears, if something amusing occurred to her, she would somehow stop crying to entertain the company.' All in all 'she made herself loved by everyone'. Even the young Sophia was won round after a few minutes conversation and 'from that time forward I considered her quite handsome'. | A Royal Passion: The Turbulent Marriage of King Charles I of England and Henrietta Maria of France by Katie Whitaker

as a historian (and artist, but that's a whole other conversation), I'm growing increasingly concerned about AI. It has got to the point where people cannot tell the difference between reality and AI images, and every time a machine is fed with an image or an instruction to turn a historical figure into an AI image, it gets better at it.
I'm super concerned that historical images - completely computer made, fake, faux - will soon be mistaken for real history and historical photographs. It's incredibly dangerous.
If AI is so advanced that the public cannot recognise the difference between a real photograph of a celebrity and a computer image, what hope do we have for people being able to tell apart real historical sources from nonsense fabrications?

@susasusastyle You’re not the only one. This is going to be an unpopular opinion, but I don’t like the style. The poses seemed a bit forced to me, especially Letizia’s. But this is just my opinion and to each their own.

And this keeps on getting worse with the NRF… *Trigger warning*
Tumblr media
He is a depraved spoiled brat and going to be bold and add the term psychopath. He should be locked up for good! I feel so sorry for his victims.
I’m sorry, but my respect for Haakon and Mette Marit is now in the negatives! Horrible.
I read from a Norwegian website called News in English that one of the ex-girlfriends warned both Haakon and Mette-Marit about Mauris’ out of control behavior, but from the sounds of it, they seemed to ignored it.
The case was already bad, but it’s getting worse and worse.
