primer

the son of a war refugee and a missouri blue collar worker turned leather goods entrepreneur, murph collins spent his days playing catch in the confines of his bosnian neighborhood in st. louis before landing on the grounds of the university of virginia where he studied classics and commerce, and played baseball as a varsity athlete. other extracurriculars included being a recruitment chair of the kappa alpha order and singing with the virginia gentlemen.

he’s moved to dc since graduation, working at worldwide consulting firm bain & company, racking up frequent flyer miles and keeping his anxiety meds in reach. he was engaged to a dc socialite until she cheated on him with a dude who looked like tucker carlson. he still hasn’t gotten the ring back, but he’s starting a new chapter without her. find him at his new job at npr doing corporate strategy and standing at the very back of tiny desk concerts, because he’s 6′3″ and all the short girls want to be really close to lizzo.

Washington D.C. is charming and vicious. While other cities claim to lead in fame and fashion, D.C. captures the world’s attention. It draws interests towards its marble walkways leading up into great halls and its broken steps leading down into busy underground metro stations. Beyond government buildings and aged monuments, a remarkable cache of street festivals, eclectic art exhibitions, stylish shops, and a tantalizing food scene leave nothing to be desired. Suit-clad politicians rush by with their aides trailing behind them, while the working crowd steals away from their desks to take part in the happy hour scene in bars and pubs across the city.   A city, almost perfect, except for the cracks in its façade. Foreign nationals and tourists see a historical city, respectable and beautiful, filled with archives of the United State’s collective memory in both pride and shame. Politicians and locals see a powerful see, great and desperate, gaping open with power vacuums that must either be sealed or overtaken before other hands grabs the reins.   With a distinct claim on overarching power, it is the city of dreams and consequences beyond the imagination.
