I dont give a shit about the "poor american soldier who could be deployed in the middle east", if they set foot in any country in Asia or Africa they should be turned into paste.

“Why does the guerrilla fighter fight? We must come to the inevitable conclusion that the guerrilla fighter is a social reformer, that he takes up arms responding to the angry protest of the people against their oppressors, and that he fights in order to change the social system that keeps all his unarmed brothers in ignominy and misery.”
— Ernesto “Che” Guevara, Guerrilla Warfare (via intellectualpoaching)

How many slips into sin I have made, yet You are, towards me, full of bounty and favour.
People assume good of me, but I am the worst of people if You do not pardon me.

“Of course, there is no physiological need for baking, but that’s precisely its appeal: in a world where so much of what we do is in the name of achieving some end, baking is just pleasure in and of itself. It’s special because we don’t need it, but we want it, and we allow ourselves to indulge that appetite nonetheless. With deadlines creeping and bills climbing and relationships shuddering to a halt, we can take a step aside from all of that humdrum mess and make something sweet. The fact that baking takes so long only makes it more special, because it cannot be rushed. It can’t be squeezed into the half hour between work and gym. ‘I have my four-hour morning ahead, whole as a pie,’ Sylvia Plath once wrote, having left her prestigious teaching job, and finding herself free to write, bake and slowly coax herself back into a softer kind of life.”

“‘Having a coke with you is even more fun than going to San Sebastian, Irún, Hendaye, Biarritz, Bayonne,’ declared poet Frank O’Hara. He knew that what we eat together is worth a thousand big epiphanies or Michelin-starred solo meals or grand voyages. Here are some other things that are magical: picking the last of the season’s fat, only blackberries with you; eating toast in bed with you and arguing about the crumbs; reaching into the Minstrels packet at the same time as you and our hands grazing; unwrapping a cheeseburger with you; crying into cut onions with you; flipping pancakes with you and giving you the ones that aren’t crumpled; walking home with a pocketful of Maltesers with you; cracking open the lid of the pan with you, and having the steam and the scent of dinner hit us both in the face; sharing my spoon with you; you.”

i made your favourite meal for you. i’ve grown used to the taste of tomatoes because i know you don’t like them in your dishes, so i pick them out and take on that burden for you. i ran to the corner store in a blizzard to buy you that candy you like, stood in a bakery line before the sun rose to plead with the baker to give me a loaf of that bread you rave about in the mornings. i danced around the kitchen in the early evening so that you’d have a fresh meal prepared for you when the hours grew dark and you felt the deep sadness in your chest. i sang to the stew i made for you so that when you took that first bite, you’d be able to taste the love i put into it. i adore you, and through that i will create dishes so that you can feel how much i do.
