you know i do think that projection-based trans headcanons are a bit hit or miss and sometimes people are projecting transness (tbh, usually transmasculinity) on a character where it's like okay that idea is cute but in terms of canon events and themes, this makes no sense (dean winchester, james sunderland, harry du bois, etc etc).

i also think it's important to keep in mind that sometimes, who we decide gets a trans hc is heavily influenced by things like race, weight, class, etc. sometimes trans hcs need more variation and it would be good of us to acknowledge that we need to get more varied.

however if you're arguing that a character who explicitly expresses transhumanist sentiment in canon is only hc'd as trans bc of audience projection (herbert west, daniil dankovsky, viktor arcane) - well i do think you're a bit misguided.

regardless i think more people on both sides need to open up to the idea of transfem hcs. there's really no reason for fandom to limit itself on trans hcs and i promise you it won't kill you if that character's transition begins after canon does. you know?
