Music by Péter Nánási: peternanasi.bandcamp.com/
--------------------- It’s hard to believe it’s been five years since I made my first Vorticity film. The one goal I had that year was to get a tornado on time-lapse for the first time ever. That happened and it’s been a wild, incredible ride since. The storms I’ve witnessed have been moving, stunning and a few of them, legendary (at least to us chasers!).
The 2021 season was no different. The number of supercells we saw and the level of structure was absolutely amazing. From Sudan, Texas to Malta, Montana…the chases were a blast and the time-lapses I caught were just fantastic fun. So many supercells, so many chases…I think I counted about 27 days we chased from late April to late June. Definitely one of the more active springs in recent years. It was good enough that I felt I could put out another worthy entry in the Vorticity series, so hopefully you agree!
I worked once again with Péter Nánási on the music, it's 100% custom for this film and it's so dang good! Appreciate his artistry and vision, not to mention always busting these out quickly for me! Hit him up if you need a score for your film!
My buddy Brett Wright was along for the ride most of the spring and we’ve made a pretty darn good team I must say. He started helping me on tours a few years back and since then we’ve just gotten really honed in on our chasing strategies. I’m so thankful we’ve been able to do this together and am so grateful to have his help with the driving, the forecasting and decision-making.
As always, I’d like to thank all the supporters over on my Patreon page! If you're not a member yet but enjoyed this film, I encourage you to join up. I'm so honored by the folks over there who spend their hard-earned cash to support the work I do, it means so much! They all got to see this film a week ago, so there are some fun perks!
Finally, to my wife Jina and my kiddos…thank you as always for bearing with me during the crazy few months I’m gone chasing for huge chunks at a time. I miss you always and it’s definitely getting harder to be away from you all. Being married to you Jina is the best thing I’ve ever done, and I thank you for your constant support all year long, but especially these few months. And to the kids, you all are so sweet and kind to ask me how chasing is going, not to mention joining me this past June on a three day chase adventure…you all mean the world to me and it’s a joy being your dad!
I hope everyone enjoys this film! Some epic storms in there, some bucket list moments like the Sudan tornado with unbelievable structure above it, or the incredible quadruple downburst that ends the film…I enjoy so much capturing these scenes, these moments, and sharing them with the world. I know storms can be scary, and deadly, and definitely can be devastating for many people…but they are also beautiful and mesmerizing…and hopefully that feeling is conveyed in the films I put together.
Everything in this movie is time-lapse photography, captured at various intervals, entirely on Canon cameras and lenses. I use LR Timelapse, Adobe Lightroom, Premiere Pro and After Effects to put it all together. The cameras were two 5DSRs and an R5. All scenes were captured across about nine states in the central United States.
All footage available in 8K resolution

Music: "The Last Goodbye" Eric Kinny, Danica Dora (through TheMusicbed.com, sign-up for licensing here: share.mscbd.fm/mikeolbinski) ------
Sometimes it takes you months to find the correct song for your next project and other times you find it in about three minutes. When I heard The Last Goodbye, the haunting melody and gorgeous vocals, not to mention the cinematic feel leading to a pulse-pounding finale, I knew instantly I wanted to use this for a black and white film.
Interestingly enough, while I love making these monochrome films, I've had this newfound love of color in storms, the variety, the stunning tones of greens, blues, oranges, reds and everything in-between. So as I was making this film entirely in black and white, I kept getting this unsatisfied feeling. I decided to try something new about halfway through, when the song's pace slowly increases, and I hope it's something you enjoy!
I love this song, I love these clips and I love chasing storms. The scenes in this film have appeared before, and I cannot wait to get out and get some new stuff to share down the road. It may be two years of collecting footage again before I create something new, so I had to put something out now to tide me over until then and also to fire me up for storm season! Hope you enjoy!

Music by Ryan Taubert via The Musicbed.com: share.mscbd.fm/mikeolbinski
--------------------- This past spring was definitely a crazy time. I wasn't even sure how much I'd be able to chase with everything going on, but luckily the storms waited until the middle of May to truly get going and things seemingly had gotten much better then and made chasing possible.
One thing you will notice in this film is a lack of tornadoes. It was a bad year for them right up until July when I stopped chasing! But the structure was magnificent. So many legendary days. I wasn't even planning on doing a film this year, as I was figuring to do what I did with the previous Vorticity: Wait to gather up two years worth of footage in order to give you nothing but the very best. Incredibly, this year was so good, I had no idea how NOT to do a film, because if next year was anywhere close, I'd be making a 30 minute movie or having to leave a ton of clips on the cutting room floor.
So I started to work on it, first with the music as always...and I love Ryan Taubert. His album "Fool" actually had four tracks on it I love, but individually they didn't quite have it all. So I spent a few hours, blended four of them, came up with a nine minute song and boom, went to work!
I wanted to do something a little more methodical, slower paced and majestic this time, fitting with the music and the footage. I hope you enjoy that! The lightning was off charts this year for me, so much night-time structure and awesomeness, plus the daytime supercells were incredible.
I want to big time thank my partner in crime this year for about two weeks, Brett Wright. He helped me with our tiny little one-guest tours this year, and having him along to help drive, forecast and make on-the-fly decisions was much appreciated. Moreover, incredibly thankful for our friendship. And to Deran and Kristy, thanks for tagging along! Seeing your reactions and yes, even tears in Kristy's case, was inspiring!
Thanks to my YouTube peeps, the channel has really exploded this spring, and I appreciate and love all the comments and feedback, despite a few crazies tossed in there :)
To my Patreon peeps...thank you for the love and support this past year, not to mention the growth this spring. To Sarah and Samantha, my two top supporters...no words for you two! I appreciate you so much!
Finally, to my wife Jina and the kids. With everything going on with the coronavirus, and putting an addition on our home at the same time, it was tougher being away this spring. No doubt about it. Luckily there were long breaks at home this time with marginal storms to make things easier, but it's still always a rough time, which is why I stop chasing out there once June is over. I thank them for allowing me to do what I love and to be excited to see what I captured whenever I get home. I love you all!!!

Everything shot with two Canon 5DSRs and various Canon lenses. A couple lightning sequences with the Sony A7R3

RESPIRE ! 4K from Luc Perrot on Vimeo.
« RESPIRE ! Respire !

Where the Sun is born | JAPAN from L'oeil d'Eos on Vimeo.
Against tide and on the sidelines of the crowd, it's a confidential Japan that we present to you in this video. Condensed from our two recent trips to the Land of the Rising Sun, this film is an ode to the connection to nature and urban harmony that characterize Japan so well. The words of Charles Baudelaire respond to the images, or rather is it the opposite ? There are atmospheres that you imagine more than others, and if someone had asked us the question earlier, it's exactly with these images, these moments that we would have described Japan. Where the sun is born, where effervescence becomes a sense of appeasement, where meditation and lifestyle become one.
_______________________________________________________________________________
GET DRUNK by Baudelaire
ONE SHOULD always be drunk. That’s the great thing; the only question. Not to feel the horrible burden of Time weighing on your shoulders and bowing you to the earth, you should be drunk without respite.
Drunk with what? With wine, with poetry, or with virtue, as you please. But get drunk.
And if sometimes you should happen to awake, on the stairs of a palace, on the green grass of a ditch, in the dreary solitude of your own room, and find that your drunkenness is ebbing or has vanished, ask the wind and the wave, ask star, bird, or clock, ask everything that flies, everything that moans, everything that flows, everything that sings, everything that speaks, ask them the time; and the wind, the wave, the star, the bird and the clock will all reply: “It is Time to get drunk! If you are not to be the martyred slaves of Time, be perpetually drunk! With wine, with poetry, or with virtue, as you please.”

LANZAROTE | THE WONDER from L'oeil d'Eos on Vimeo.
Raw. Mineral. Bewitchingly. These three words describe perfectly the atmosphere that we could feel on Lanzarote in the Canary archipelago off the coast of Morocco. Far from the crowd that can be everywhere on Lanzarote (sometimes), we have found preserved and totally uninhabited places there. It's this side that we wanted to explore. The soul of its landscapes, of this volcanic lands, between dark rock, stormy ocean and wonderful nature.

Watershed | An Icelandic Tale from Video Bros. on Vimeo.
A new hiking adventure, this time Iceland. My friends and I decided to escape from the main tourist road and walk the Laugavegur trail, a 4-day hike from Landmannalaugar to Þórsmörk. During our adventure, we saw smoke rising from the mountains, epic landscapes, wild horses, northern lights and all the seasons in just one day. The palette of colors in Iceland is magical and unlike any country I've seen.
In the 'land of ice and fire' it was mainly all the water that impressed me the most. Little floating rivers under the pack of ice where we walked, dozens of waterfalls and several rivers to cross. After the hike, we drove along the coastal road, which showed again how Iceland is literally surrounded by water. And so the theme for this video was born.
Poem in the intro is 'Vatnaskil' by Magnús Sigurðsson, narrated by Lilja O'Brien

2019, une année volcanique ! from Luc Perrot on Vimeo.
