3. Window of Opportunity
As I enter, I see the most extravagant sight. In front of me lies a gold-lined castle, and as the sun reflects the building, the sky is illuminated, enhancing the extravagance. I brush my fingers along the sparkling castle walls, admiring the golden hue and riches that I have never seen before in my life. With singing fountains and majestic statues, it feels like they are welcoming me towards the entrance, so I excitedly speed walk into the castle. This feels like a dream come true, as I could have never imagined a place like this.
Spending three days here feels like complete utter luxury, with unlimited accommodations. Every day, I enjoyed all the food I have ever wanted to eat, from seafood to steak to cake. Then, I had access to an endless amount of entertainment, from a private movie theatre to a game room. To top it off, I did not have to do any work, as every day, I could enjoy whatever I wanted to do. As I was chomping on seafood, I thought to myself, “the world is my oyster.” However, this euphoric moment would come to an end. After the third day, I felt empty, like something was missing. Why am I feeling this way when this is all I have ever wanted?
Suddenly, I feel homesick. I miss my friends and family, my favourite stuffed animal I neglected and left on my bedroom floor, and having an objective in life. I run back outside the castle, searching for the stone gate to go back home. However, the gate is now gone, and all my connection with the world that I once knew disappeared. Reflecting on my experiences in this castle, I realize that what I need is not wealth or comfort. I need fulfilment, and being here is not going to give me that. I needed to find a way to escape.
When I woke up, I went to look for clues or pathways that are connected between this world and the real world. I searched the entire castle, top to bottom, making sure to look in every nook and cranny. To my disappointment, there was nothing to be found, making me feel extremely isolated and lost. For the first time in my life, helplessness corrupted my brain, and all I could do was wish. I wished to be back to where I was before all of this happened. I do not care if my job sucks, or if my tiny apartment is a mess, I just want my life back. Then, as if I spoke it into existence, I suddenly feel tremendously dizzy and doze off. When I wake up, I am back in my reliable and comforting room. I look around and cherish my surroundings, making sure to never take anything for granted ever again.

2. Intruder in my Window
The angel drifts into my bedroom, forcing me to retreat quickly until my back hits the wall. Looking around while simultaneously shaking her head, the angel displays her disapproval of my messy room. I will admit, it has seen better days, with a pile of unfolded laundry on the floor and takeout containers scattered around my desk. However, this is the first time I am realizing that I have not had time for myself in a long time. Constantly overworked, my life has turned into a mundane routine of eat, work, sleep and repeat. Am I satisfied with a life like this?
As if she is able to read my mind, an immense gush of wind flows into my room from the open window, creating a tornado. In the process, all my belongings get swooped up into the overbearing wind, including my clothes, stationary, and makeup. Holding onto a singular bed leg for dear life, adrenaline fills up my body as I try my hardest to not get sucked in. Fighting for my life, I gasp as my right-hand slips off the bed leg, now leaving one arm supporting my entire body.
I have felt fear throughout my life, but none of it felt like this. Flashbacks of my life play through my head, like a movie being rewinded with time-lapse. When was the last time I felt truly happy? As I am about to give in, the wind abruptly comes to a stop, and I collapse onto the floor. I Look around my room and miraculously, it looks identical to how it did before this catastrophe. Was this all a dream? I pinch myself twice to double-check, praying today was just a bad day. However, when I turn around, my jaw drops to the floor.
In place of my cracked window, I now see the most majestic sight I have ever laid my eyes on. A stone gate has formed around the window frame, and inside it, a blast of blinding light shines into my room. As the light expands, my room transforms into a valley of luscious forests, with evergreen trees consuming the floor. The ceiling turns into the most splendid nighttime sky, with the moon shining brightly above the stone gate. On the other side of the gate, I see the angel smiling as if she is offering her hand for me to enter.
I look at the breathtaking sight and take a minute to ponder. This could either change my life or ruin it. However, do I really have that much to lose? Deciding to let my curiosity get the best of me, I take a risk and walk toward the portal. Breathing in and out, I close my eyes and climb through the stone gate that was once my window.

1. The Window is Now Open
2 A.M.
The air is crisp, almost glacial as I finally get the opportunity to go to bed after a long and exhausting day. I snuggle into my bed sheets as my toes engulf the soft, velvety plush blanket, followed by the rest of my body. Turning off my bedside light, melatonin floods my entire body as I doze off to sleep.
However, this heavenly feeling does not last long, as I am jolted awake by an ear-piercing noise. Smash! It sounded like someone tried to shoot a cannon at me to infiltrate my bedroom. Slowly opening my eyes, I see a long, prominent crack in my window. Irritated, I get out of my safe haven and grab a baseball bat to prepare myself for what is to come. Could it be a murderer trying to make their way into my bedroom? Or worse, a colossal monster coming to eat my guts. Gulping, I slowly step towards my window, ready to fight.
I peek through the window, expecting horror but to my surprise, there is nobody outside. My entire block looks like how it would look on a normal day, with a few cars parked outside and the streetlights illuminating the street with a golden hue. I examine the singular crack in my window, brushing my index finger along it. There is nothing notable about the crack, as it is not large enough to cause the cold air to slip into my room. Assuming a rock was accidentally launched at my window from a car passing by, I climb back into bed to continue my slumber.
4 A.M.
The same shrill and thunderous sound escapes from my window, angering me from head to toe. Taking a glimpse at the targeted spot, my window looks like it is holding on for dear life, now with an additional 6 cracks. Filled with rage, I march to the window, preparing to confront whoever had the guts to execute this infuriating offence. I am shocked when I see an unearthly silhouette floating elegantly by my window. Maybe I am still half-asleep or maybe this is a dream, I think to myself. I rub my eyes with my palms and open them again and the figure is still there. Too stunned to speak, I stare at what looks like an angel, with a border of white, glowing light outlining her figure, as she floats in a puffy, white dress. She levitates towards me, now with only the window separating her and me. With a slight smile that takes over her face, she gives me a slight wave. Before I even had time to process what is happening, she majestically knocks on the cracked glass, and it completely shatters. The window is now open.
