Not affiliated with Lancaster University. A tool to help you narrow down and choose undergraduate accommodation. Made by a student starting in 2020 so there may slight inaccuracies. I have included as much information as available.

Guide to the suggester
It is recommended that the suggester is viewed in full screen on a desktop or laptop rather than a mobile device. The suggester is available here:https://lancasteraccommodationsuggestor.tumblr.com/suggester
If you want to apply a filter, click the arrow next to the category name and it will display the options. For many of these categories, you can select multiple options, but for some that oppose each other, such as size and budget, you can only select one.
When applying filters, close the categories after selecting from them by pressing the arrow again, as the filters do not scroll and having multiple filters opened may push others off screen.
Feel free to filter with as many or as few as possible, however using all the filters may cause all results to be filtered out.
Information is as accurate as I can make possible, from publicly available information collated in one place. Some filters may be subjective and as such are not to be taken as fact. As I am not a current student, here are the sources of these subjective filters:
General vibes: Charlie Colette’s College video on YouTube. Link currently unavailable as it has since been removed.
Prices: Prices reflect the 2020/2021 academic year.
Superior ensuites are all shown as being a range on the website. However, I consulted the past prices, where some were ranges and some were only the lower price. I applied these to the current prices and so this is an estimate. To be safe when budgeting, allow the upper price of 6137.60
Size of college: Those of sizes 1100-1200 are classed as small and those of 1500-1700 are classed as large, while intermediate colleges are not included in this filter.
Near department: This was a subjective judgement, from plotting all accommodations on a campus map, and comparing the department locations to these. Some departments, such as the Medical school, are not near to any accommodations, while some accommodations, located on south west campus, are not near to any departments. I have included these in the filters, however, so as to not cause confusion.
Age: This was done using Lancaster’s own system, with ‘superior’ reflecting newer rooms and ‘basic’ reflecting more outdated ones, and I could not find years of building or refurbishment for most accommodations.
The links at the top will take you to relevant resources either on Lancaster’s website or to a google doc. The same is true of the links at the bottom of each accommodation type.
Please conduct your own research into these accommodations. I am not affiliated with the university and I am not yet a student, so this has not been checked or verified by the university or the student union.
This suggester is in no way meant to be a singular source for your accommodation decision. I would like to credit http://cactusthemes.tumblr.com/ for the code that was used to create this, and Oxford Student Union’s College Suggester (https://apply.oxfordsu.org/colleges/suggester/) for the idea to do this. All of the information was taken from the Lancaster University website, app or wikipedia pages on the colleges.
If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to send an ask on Tumblr or email me at [email protected] or at zeniabujo on instagram. I hope you find it useful. If you have any questions on the accommodations themselves, direct them to the university’s undergraduate accommodations team or to their representatives on Unibuddy, which I highly recommend.
