anyway since i'm actually learning chinese now thought it'd be great to share my progress on here, if only to motivate myself

"No American Sign Language [ASL]," Lambrecht reminds them with her hands, as the virtual class begins. "This is Hawaii Sign Language [HSL]."

More than 100 students have received the same reminder from Lambrecht. Since 2018, she's offered HSL classes to the public; first in-person and, since the Covid-19 pandemic began, on Zoom.

Lambrecht isn't just teaching. She's fighting erasure, globalization and the cruelty of time to keep an endangered sign language -- and with it, generations of history, heritage and wisdom -- alive.

But experts estimate that fluent HSL users number in the single digits. Time is running out."

langblr pls help

i want to learn (mandarin) chinese but i'm kinda lost. since i know very little about the language and am an absolute beginner i have literally no idea what textbooks and workbooks are reliable sources (for characters, grammar, vocabular, pronunciation etc.) and what are the ones i should avoid. i know that google is my friend but i thought i'd ask here as well, so if you speak chinese and could give me some recommendations i'd be grateful for that

hello there

so originally i wanted to start a blog to like find/share sources and motivate myself to actually learn the languages i want to and not just think about doing it, but since i'm actually a philologist specialized in scandinavian studies (or at least my degree says so) i thought i could also write and reblog other stuff about languages i find interesting, and maybe also discuss pieces of literature bc that's close to my heart. so yeah this blog is probably gonna be a mess but my life is a mess as well so at least it's not out of character.

i can speak english and norwegian, can understand some italian (not much) and i'm learning chinese as well. also there are a lot, like, a LOT of languages that i'm interested in, it's just that uni takes up most of my time atm.

also hungarian is my native language, so if you have any questions about or need help with that, feel free to message me, i'm happy to help:)

Memrise is a great resource as it has Memrise courses and user-created courses. These are the official Russian courses if you go through them one by one they amount to approximately 54 hours of content. The thing I like about Memrise is they test you on your pronunciation, and they have lots of videos by Russian native speakers. So it really tests you in all your skills.
