Recently Been thinking about a beloved free Visual Novel I found on itch.io in highschool- [during my phase of being obsessed with the concepts of the yandere.] And recently got reminded that something being online doesn't actually make it permanent.

I had a character from the game I absolutely adored but its been so long I can't even really remember what she looks like- can't even make fan art. :(

Sadly I can't wayback the game page into working- but I was able to find one- (just one) picture of my favourite characte Bianka!!! Realizing her name is spelled with a K and not a C explains part of my search struggles now. Sadly- this image is with her eyes closed :(

Also bummed I can't pull up the old gallery images, Bianka was my homescreen for a good while before my laptop exploded :(

I still think the most devastating enshittification I've ever seen has been picrew. One of the few dress-up game websites left that's not flash-based and it's become DRENCHED in ads. You can't open the home screen without being blasted by at least three or four ads. You can't open two picrews in a row without watching a video ad first. When you have a picrew open the ads cover up the different options and sometimes even stack on each other so you have to hit like 2 or 3 different x buttons to get it to go away, only for more to appear seconds later. genuinely wild to me when I go to someone's house and we watch TV or listen to music or something and there are ads. I hate Nintendo Switch Online. I hate the lack of optimization. I hate the expensive subscription service. I hate the lack of games. I hate the limited time releases. I hate that it's never gonna have the level of content that the Wii virtual console had. I hate what capitalism has done to gaming.

This is true and really sucks-

But- entering an era of expensive games doesn't mean it has to be an unaffordable luxary!!! New games and console may be unattainable but it's time to look back!

Try out smaller, cheaper indie games from places like itch.io and twitch. Do some researching into porting and downloading for that console you haven't touched since you were 6! Step back into a game store and browse old games!

Plus PIRACY IS EASIER THEN EVER RIGHT NOW! It sucks that moving foward gaming is going to be more unaffordable then ever. (In some contexts.) There's going to be consoles you cannot afford and games that cost more then groceries.

But there's plenty of things YOU CAN!! still play!

You may not be able to play new modern games for a while. But if you have a laptop you can play basically everything that came out before the switch! Replay through some old classics, visit titles that you barely remember being released.

Do NOT!!! shell out the cash for a game whose price could get me groceries for two weeks- mkay!

Also like. At some point some of you are gonna have to reckon with the fact that just purely economically, home video gaming has always been a luxury hobby. You just have easy access to it because you live in the country where all the luxuries get funneled to
