Also while I'm thinking about it, I really wish the show did something more with the fact that Jaga accidentally doomed his entire planet years ago by throwing that stupid sword in a volcano. Like I wonder if he secretly feels immense guilt over it, and found dying while piloting the ship (and later mentoring Lion-O as a ghost) a way of redeeming himself.

Lion-O just having his reality shattered, finding out this man who he put all his trust in, and thought could do no wrong killed their people. Having to come to terms with the fact Jaga is just human (or cat) and made mistakes

As a gigantic fairytale nerd, let me say this: Starkid did it right. I love retellings, but not when they use this medium to "fix" the old stories by giving them current sensibilities and changing their core themes. There's nothing wrong with changing a fairytale (or even putting as many girlbosses in it as you want), as long as you understand it, and there is enough of the original for it to still be a retelling.

Cinderella's Castle is beautiful. Watching it felt like reading an obscure variant from the same ATU: deliciously alien, while still feeling familiar. The way they combined her mother's tree with the fairy godmother, and turned both ideas into something new? Beautiful. I loved the detail of the cutt-off feet: after all, on Grimm's version the stepsisters lose part of their feet to fit the shoes. It's really fitting that in this Cinderella loses hers. I could continue for a while, really.

And the acting! This is, hands down, my favourite Jeff Blim role. He was AMAZING as the narrator, with vibes straight out of Puck himself. But everyone was fantastic. Angela was born to play the villain, really. Her range is so good, and the day Starkid added her to the cast was a great one. Curt is always a delight, but I missed sassy Curt; he'd been abssend in levels like this since his stint as an agent, and we need more of it. But Bryce? Well. Her voice is lovely, for once (and I am so happy they gave this role to a soprano). More than that, though, she brings the perfect blend of sweetness and resilience that makes the perfect Cinderella. Too jaded, and she loses the hope needed for this story (even in this case, when moved by vengeance). Too hopeless, and she can't endure (without which there's no Cinderella whatsoever). And Bryce does it in the most ethereal way.

The misuse of the "insult to life itself" quote from Miyazaki on AI burns my yams so bad bc the original context is being disgusted with how a characters movements are dehumanizing to disabled people specifically bc of his empathy for a disabled friend and it's such a sadly rare sentiment, this cognizance of how we casually inflict indignity upon disabled people and how he finds it disgusting, I hate seeing it obfuscated
