Dracula's Restraint, or Lack Thereof

My impression of the Demeter arc was always Dracula going wild like a kid in a candy shop and being unable to control himself. So I decided to go back and check the dates to see if that impression was accurate or if Dracula was actually pacing himself reasonably.

Jonathan meets Dracula on the night of May 4, when by appearance Dracula is in what Jonathan later refers to as the "fasting stage of his existence:" white-haired and aged. In Stoker's notes, the reason for the panic of the diligence's horses is because they smell blood on Dracula, but whose blood and how recently it was consumed is not specified.

On May 15, Dracula gives the bag to the weird sisters without partaking of its contents. If he fed from it before giving it over, or fed on something else during his hunt, he did not feed enough to alter his appearance.

On June 24, Jonathan hears a sharp wail quickly suppressed in Dracula's room. It is unknown who was feeding: Dracula, the weird sisters, or all of them. If Dracula did feed, it was not enough to alter his appearance when Jonathan saw him the next morning.

On June 29, Dracula drinks enough from Jonathan to change his hair color and complexion, and looks overall "simply gorged with blood." It would appear that this is either Dracula's first feeding or at least first substantial feeding in some time.

From June 30 to July 6, Dracula is in transport from his castle to the Demeter. It is unknown if he fed during this time.

On July 15, Dracula presumably drains an unknown amount of blood from one of the sailors before throwing him overboard. This is sixteen days after he fed on Jonathan. The next night he is seen by Olgaren, who describes him as tall and thin but not old.

On July 23, Dracula again drains an unknown amount of sailor's blood. This is eight days after his last feeding.

On July 28, Dracula feeds on another sailor. This is five days after his last feeding.

On August 1, Dracula feeds on another sailor, four days after his last feeding.

On August 2, Dracula feeds on another sailor, one day after his last feeding.

On August 3, Dracula encounters the captain and may or may not feed from him. The captain notes, "If He can look me in the face again, I may not have time to act" [emphasis added]. This suggest Dracula already used his mesmeric power on the captain for some purpose, possibly to eat.

In conclusion, my initial impression was right, and Dracula needs to learn portion control

Lightly related to the polyamorous talk, I feel that the blood transfusions are so underplayed in general. It's a blood pact connecting them all to the end, and also it feels ecstatic and gives an afterglow to both parties? It's also as if love is stored in the blood and they all feel it. More charged than Dracula's biting, I'd argue. And also speaking of bonding, Mina ends up drinking everyone's blood, not just Dracula's... and the one's she definitely doesn't, ends up bleeding for her while she holds him. Blood is so prevalent even between the humans!
